We cannot afford a green light for dishonest schools to continue harming students

This also should apply to skyrocketing tuition rates due to the institutions knowing that students would be pressured to take the predatory government loans. The government shouldn’t have been willing to pay that much to begin with, which would force the universities to lower their rates.

In warmer water their metabolism goes up and they need to forage more food to survive. While they were attempting to do that, the were getting eaten by predators that typically couldn’t enter their region.

When I was in business school, one of our lecturers in our ethics class was one of the main consultants that worked the Steam project to create regional price differences and other geofencing. It was a very interesting class. The takeaway is that it can be seen as morally responsible to charge someone is a poorer country less for the same game. It is called price discrimination and it is done in many industries including air travel and pharmaceuticals. Otherwise, you would price an entire market out of a product. In many respects, the richer countries are subsidizing the poorer countries. The argument that the price should be the lowest one on the board anywhere is not realistic because a company needs to generate margins high enough to make the opportunity worthwhile otherwise it is not going to produce the product. In other words, Companies will not make a product if they are going to lose monkey selling it, but they will charge one market more to sell to another market at a loss if there is other intrinsic value like user adoption to create a community. They are selling digital content in this instance, but it still took money to make and money to distribute, so the argument that the product is easy to replicate over and over again is a moot point. Getting some money in a market versus no money is beneficial. If people pirate that games en masse by even just purchasing them VPN at a lower rate hurts the developers. I believe in some piracy under certain circumstances, such as when you truly can’t afford something when you are growing up. It is in the marketers best interest to let kids get hooked at a young age.

If he needs to pay the real estate business to get started and if he needs to recruit other people, it is likely MLM (pyramid scheme). There is a database of those here.

I get why they do monkey trials, but the part where it said that the one dieing monkey was holding it's cellmate's hands really gets to me. There needs to be a better way.

I recently moved my wiki notes to a different platform and wanted to build a Python app to read each article and add a list of keywords and categories describing it, so things would be easier to find on the new site. I ended up attempting to create a natural language model, but literally every unique word in each article kept becoming a keyword and category. After hours of toil and StackOverflow, I realized that I was essentially trying to recreate ChatGPT or at least an aspect of what it could do seamlessly. Instead of just pivoting to its API’s, which would have only cost a few cents, I spent a few more hours trying to use a wrapper around Bard that was broken because the service didn’t want people to build free automation atop it. I finally wrote a script that used ChatGPT/OpenaAI API’s to feed the articles and it worked almost perfectly. Had to run some parsing, but it got where it needed to be. TL;DR: I tried to write an AI in a day that is difficult for seasoned experts, failed pretty gloriously, realized I should use an existing AI, then wasted a few more hours trying to save a few cents, then did it correctly. I hyper-focus when coding, which can lead to these rabbit holes.

I’m sure that the Saudis are compensating him for his losses on Twitter. This was a planned demolition.

I’d rather have ChatGPT know about news content than not. I appreciate the convenience. The news shouldn’t have barriers.

I’m very successful in what I do in IT and interact with many business users. They just come to accept that when I go on a technical jargon tangent, I will rehash it for them in layman’s terms once I speak the incomprehensible version which gives me the opportunity to get my thoughts in order. I am slowly learning to do that part in my head and to know my audience. I found that reading books on philosophy, politics, communication, and time management have all helped me to make my discussions with other it’s a strategic game where I know that I have to say things properly to accomplish the goal. If you realize that why you are opening your mouth is to accomplish a specific objective, then you can target just that objective and bulletpoints you other thoughts in notes for later. I’ve gone as far as to state allowed what I needed to and sent my bulletpoints soon after as either meeting notes or in the meeting chat if on zoom.

Hamas wants to lure them into a ground war where they can also ensure the maximum amount of martyred. Hamas is causing these deaths. No one is safe either way. It’s a war zone. Hamas is shooting people that are fleeing.

I only go to Reddit for porn since they lose money when I do that.

I’m not.

Hamas is the government of the Gaza Strip. They declared war. The Gaza Strip is now a war zone because the people in charge started a war.

lol. I’m sticking with the typo.

Came here for the LOTR reference. Was not disappointed.

They should probably check the markets in question.

Agreed. The only thing to add to this is that government systems are voluntary and propped up by the people. The reason our current system actually works so well is because there is already a strong sense of local governance and accountability albeit on some rails. Each state defines the types of organized entities that if will sanction. In NJ for example, we have townships, but you could also register using other systems like village, etc. If they wanted to appease the libertarians a little, they could potentially allow for that experiment to exist in the same way that Indian reservations are their own systems.

True. This happens a lot at my company. The consultants just ask us what we think and that becomes the report.

I did this with my wiki in order to read each article and come up with a category and keyword cloud. I first started by attempting to use many different tools to build my own LLM and then realized that I was reinventing the wheel and shifted to using OpenAI’s API. I was able to prompt it to read each article as input and output what I needed in a machine readable format. It worked like a charm.

It’s a losing battle with a dying technology. The future is streaming over the internet using and ID that is tied to you or a company. The cell towers all have data. If standard 5G takes less packets than “Data”, we could at least change authentication to a key share system that ties a person and verifies their authenticity.

I had the narrator when I was a kid and even asked other people if they could hear the person talking, which creeped out my siblings occasionally. Fortunately grew out of that by presumably realizing that was myself talking to me.

It’s a really good movie. You should totally watch it.

lemmy.ml’s mods are marxists and pro-China, even in favor of the fascist atrocities, such as the Uyghur genocide/ethnocide and the Tiananmen Square massacre. Lemmy is open-source and they have indicated that people should use other servers if they don’t believe in those ideals because they mod that server with them in mind. Don’t use lemmy.ml as your base server unless you are a tankie extremist like then.

I’ll tell you that the teacher was an attorney who worked for a very reputable business consulting firm to help businesses make unsavory decisions. A key takeaway from the class is that you can do anything that you can get away with and if you don’t, your competitors will. They basically said that you need to get away with it in the eyes of the law, but also your customers. They may be the ones forcing you to do the right thing. You also have to do good in the eyes of your employee culture. If your employees don’t like the direction of the company’s values, then that can prove detrimental. So, in many respects, you can be forced by external factors to act an ethical manner.

I agree with your sentiment. The takeaway for me is that we are influenced by our environment. Our experience is one of learning through experimenting with our reality, so it does come down to what we are presented with. I was raised around a temple that my parents were very active in, but it was reform, so I could ask lots of questions. I was told the narrative, but was allowed to interrogate it a bit and pretty much had the rabbi provide the evidence against religion by asking the right questions and getting fair responses. Others don’t get this opportunity and are instead force-fed religion and told not to question it. I still remember the moment that it clicked for me that it was all a charade. I basically asked the rabbi that, if all life is lived now per Judaism and we don’t have the concept of heaven or hell, then why do we need to do these practices and he basically said to make us feel happier. I was pretty much like ok, I’d rather go to space camp then.

Communities should have cultures that value education and shame kids for trashing the school. This doesn’t happen in other non-ghetto areas. Kids just go to school and learn like civilized people.

This literally says that it is the defacto government of Gaza. Just because another political body doesn’t agree doesn’t mean that they aren’t the ones controlling the day to do. They don’t have a democracy, which is on them to correct as well. Arab culture does not promote the type of mentality required to support Democracy. It’s just rugged tribalism where women are relegated to a form of slavery and children are indoctrinated to a culture of hate. That population was being regulated by Israel to provide order. They wanted independence from Israel and were unwilling to work on a means to assimilate. It was unable to form a productive society and was just breading terrorists.

Not only that, but imagine the harm that can be done if killer drone swarms get into the hands of bad people, such as terrorists.

If bad people adopt a word or mannerism, does that become immediately cancelled from the acceptable lexicon. Shouldn’t Webster’s update their dictionary or something. Is their a rule book. It is hard to keep up with the times. In the context of classifying the content of an image in a very scientific manner, the poster correctly identified that this person was the female gender based upon their outward appearance. Are we really going to get to a point where we can’t assume someone is male or female and have to refer to everyone as a person and they/them until the person has identified themselves. As someone edging upon 40, that reality seems overly complex and makes it feel like everyone has to walk a fine line or be cancelled.

15B is a drop in the bucket. Throwing money at things doesn’t solve problems. Especially that small an amount. Only better policy decisions solve problems.

I simply find that when I am logged into YouTube with my same account that purchased YouTube TV I receive no ads. I am not using an add blocker or anything. I assumed that was because of my purchase of YouTube TV. It might be a bug with my account because I still get a splash occasionally to buy premium, however no ads ever.

They are a public company that was $4B negative free cash flow last year. The employees get paid, but I’d love for you to describe the mechanism where a board member derives value when the stock has tanked over the past two years unless you are saying that they are shorting it, which would be public information and get them kicked off the board typically.
