When I die I hope itโ€™s doing 2 of my favourite activities- sitting and doing nothing.

Also available here- @quinacridone@mander.xyz

I don't normally comment on news posts, but in this instance, FUCK CANCER

Fuck cancer for stealing my brother from me, and for taking half my bf's lung

I seriously hopes this works for everyone out there living with this disease, and for their families, friends, the people who love them....

.....and also for everyone who has died too soon and missed their chance for survival. Their donation of tissue samples and furthering the cancer research that ultimately wouldn't help them, but will help the poor bastards that are diagnosed today and in the future...It is bitter sweet

Fuck cancer

Seaweed on pebbles

If you like art there's...

!abstractphotography@lemmy.ml

!collage@lemmy.ml

!printmaking@lemmy.ml

also

!traditional_art@lemmy.world

!artporn@lemm.ee

I've curated some other art communities in the side bar at !artistlounge@lemmy.ml including watercolour, art share and one of the photography communities

There are also lots of science and nature communities on mander and beehaw, if you search by 'all' in the communities tab at the top, type and just go down a few rabbit holes...nudibranchs, orchids, botany, minerals, geology, animals and pets etc all exist, you just need to start searching

Happy trails :)

edit forgot !awwnverts@lemmy.world and !natures_patterns@lemmy.world

While I fortunately don't have Crohns, I do have periods of horrible IBS so I can relate to the demon-farts, one evening in the park, my bf had to run away from me after I dropped a stinker, this was outside

Clearing a dance floor though? Respect

I've made- Artist Lounge, Printmaking, Collage

Not because I want to mod (never done it, and I'm autistic so it could end up becoming a nightmare) I just want to see some of my favourite communities on here

Any ex reddit mods of these subs want to re-adopt them, they're welcome to take them off my hands

edit- needed some commas

Yep, a link to the original post and your user details

Makes me look at this differently now

I hope you don't mind, but I've cross posted it to abstract photography

Non tech background (art education), but I do like a minor bit of tech tinkering and tweaking

Aiming to remain semi retired for as long as possible doing a couple of hours work a day...

The rest of the time? I have several art projects to occupy me, and now I've migrated over from reddit to here I have more time available for that.

I have also created a few art subs here that I'm hoping to set up properly soon, and see where they go

I enjoy seeing @WhippetBowie@lemmy.world, that dogs got style

That is excellent to hear!

The bf has had a load of tests over the past fortnight as he has a mass on his lung, we get the results on the 27th

I don't like Christmas anyway, and the fact that 5 years ago we were waiting again, over Christmas for my brothers cancer diagnosis, which turned out to be terminal...so it's already a shitty time of year.

If I didn't have my parents, me and the bloke would just stay at home, have poached eggs on toast and not bother with any of it.....

I've seen lots of contemporary dance performances which have blown me away, one was called 'The Silk Road' and showed how dance, as well as material goods was passed on via the silk road.

It had traditional Indian dance and Spanish dance (the one where the men do the foot stomping, I've not been up for long and my brain is still in sleep mode). It was amazing. The dancing was beautiful and demonstrated how culture and ideas are transmitted, in this instance- the similarities of dance movements

Also saw a free performance of some students of Chethams School of Music (Manchester) perform the harp. I think there was 4, maybe 5 female students, and it was beautiful. I've never heard the harp performed just on its own and they used percussive rhythms made by drumming and tapping the instrument...

I have the flyers from both above performances, so I'll edit my comment later on after I've found them

Also adding Estas Tonne....my boyfriend is a big fan and we traveled down to London for a week which included one of his gigs....it was held in a church and was just him and his guitars (and 2 incense sticks)

Hi I have a similar issue, I'm autistic and can tie myself in knots trying to work out the not-wrong way to interact, to the point where I just give up. So I don't really contribute much at all, however I'm trying to step out of my comfort zone on here and else where. I can also end up editing and re-editing my text so it may come across a bit formal/weird?

The reason why I'm responding to you is that your post resonates with me on a personal level, and I think what you comment is valuable and interesting and useful (not just to me, other quietly, internet lurkers may been here too)

Things are a bit new here for most of us, and I think that's a plus, there doesn't seem to be the pressure to post something 'hilarious'. A lot of posts don't have the enormous, and intimidating comments numbers to get lost in, so it's possible to have a little chat and be on your way

:)

They've also put it in a pump bottle rather than the usual glass droppers which will please a few people, no doubt

I generally use tret, but it's always good to know that if my supply dries up there's alternatives....

Any idea why NIOD don't have a retinol product like The Ordinary? I know you can mix and match it's just struck me as something missing from their lineup especially considering as NIOD is a step up in potency (and price)

Totally agree....

I've been using mint for the last 4 years, and while I have had to use the command line for some obscure installs, it also works as an OS without needing to use it (i jumped in at the deep end and installed it in a pc I got from my brother and used it as my everyday OS)

I don't understand why Mint isn't the first suggestion for Linux 'virgins' switching over from Windows etc, it has everything you need pre installed plus the download manager for anything else

Linux has a flavour for everyone, and after a while when you're confidence and skills grow there is the fun of using the command line and a bit of tinkering....or not, if you are happy with the 'basics'

Looks like fun, thanks

And proper webs too! Nice and prominent with the owner sat in the middle :)

The day after I took this photo we came back for another walk, just as a bee unfortunately flew into the web. I was going to try and rescue the bee, but it would have been covered in web and basically doomed anyway....so we let the spider deal with it

Here's all the action https://lemmy.ml/post/4729765

Yep, there's nothing quite like that unnerving feeling of walking face first into a spider web

Hope you don't mind me cross posting this to !abstractphotography

I've included a link to this post and credited you

Impressive photo btw, and really nicely executed

The Pixies at Manchester Apollo, maybe 1990 /91

My friend had a spare ticket and I'd never heard the band before....Within a few seconds of the first song playing I realised I liked them. I ended up buying their albums and began my alternative/indie music journey

Hi, nice photo....I was thinking originally 'ceiling tiles' but I'm now thinking it's something much, much smaller....? What am I looking at?

Also, I've cross posted this to abstract photography, with a link to your original post and credit

I feel your pain lol, I go out and take loads of photos, then have to wade through them to find maybe one half decent one....it's a journey though, and a bit of fun!

According to this they announced the closures sometime around April 2022, so it's they old stock they're offloading

Love this song and the video, best bit is when Brodie gets her lyrics slightly wrong and Shirley gives her a peck on the cheek to let her know it's alright

They don't bother me like that, probably because I know that they're always outside just chilling in their web....I think I've managed to overcome my primal instincts regarding creepy crawlies and snakes and so on, in that I'll try and catch them and pick them up for a closer look

It probably helps that I live in the UK though, and not Australia or other tropical place...they have some mental things there

Aw, thank you!

Seriously?

We had no idea what happened and why it appeared in his gallery, it was possibly due to sausage fingers then rather than some strange photography alchemy. When I see him next I'll check out the wallpapers in his phone...At least we know what it is now Lol, Thanks!

Definitive proof that it's a wallpaper on a glitchy phone/sausage fingers

I'll edit the post or delete it

Excellent news! Looking forward to some new art communities

Post your photos anyway, I still have 'pending subscriptions' from a while ago on other communities, and it's the first time it's appeared for a user on one of mine. I still haven't found a 'accept subscriber' button on the mod 'tools' I shall keep looking, and again please feel free to post your photos!

Thanks for this!

I subbed yesterday and just had a browse, I'm glad that my posting on my somewhat niche communities does actually do something for visibility

edit just found this strange place via Trending Communities oddlyspecificplaylists@sh.itjust.works

I thought this was a linocut or pencil drawing in the thumbbail, very nicely done black and white photo

Also I forgot this which may/may not be of use

!trendingcommunities@feddit.nl

It lists all the trending communities by activity and subscriber numbers, I've found a few interesting places that way :)

Thanks for the info!

The other photos you've posted are also really good, especially the boat, the colour really pops and I love the water...I'm looking forward to seeing more of your back catalogue ๐Ÿ‘

Sorry about the links, they should (hopefully) work now :)

I like how it's reflecting the clouds, crane and orange 'panels'

Seconding the massage gun, I had terrible muscle pain around my knee for over a year and after using one it went. I nearly fell off the bed as there wasn't any pain. I'm now trying to loosen up the ligament/tendon around the knee and in my hip as it's still tight....It's really nice to be able to go on a long walk and not be in pain or having to use sticks when going downhill

I know I may sound like an Amazon review, but the difference is amazing, and also reassuring as I thought I would be heading over hill into pain and general decrepitude....I'm also using it to loosen up the bf's knotty shoulders and bad back

I can't remember who originally made and posted this (but thank you for your service!)

I quite often do this for art books, I find it easier on my eyes reading text on the pirate ebook version (I can make the font as big as I need), but use the hardcopy for eyeing up the pictures
