Honestly, between the telemetry data collection, the strange hardware requirements, advertisements, bloatware, and unknown future licensing model, Linux is looking like an attractive option. At this point, I only use Windows for Office and gaming, and Linux + Proton has gotten really good lately. I don't see a reason to use Windows on my personal machine any more.

Can't the judge find him in contempt for this? I can't think of a better reason for contempt than trying to influence the investigations by withholding funding.

Starfield. I love some Bethesda games, and I don't hate the game, it's just not worth the price. It would be way more tolerable at $40. I got about 40-45 hours into it, and I don't know if I'm ever going to complete it. I feel like I've seen everything the game offers and there doesn't seem to be anything new coming along in terms of mechanics or story.

The more realistic we can make the training, the better prepared armed school staff will be to respond to an active shooter

At Uvalde, local law enforcement trained AT THE SCHOOL. It didn’t help at all. And that was for people trained for a shootout. What makes anyone think this is a good idea for regular staff members?

Under the 2022 law, school personnel – who were previously required to receive the same 700 hours of firearms training as law enforcement officials or security officers – can carry guns at school after 24 hours of instruction, provided they have permission from the local school board.

Holy shit. I’m not a gambler, but I wouldn’t bet against someone getting shot unjustifiably in the first year of implementation.

There's a lot of iconic problems Apple has had with product launches in the past (attenna-gate and butterfly keyboards are some of the most obvious recent ones), but I cannot for the life of me understand how something like this slips through in 2023. They must have a thermodynamics team that helped engineer the chassis, and the SoC team must know the thermal output of their chip. Did they just not test the device?

I mean this is a pretty big one for most people, but march 2020 COVID lockdowns. My family and I were bunkered down like the family in the movie Signs, just trying to figure out what was going on and keeping each other safe.

I post this a second time because this post is more active. What can we do to stop the transfer of data? Can we disconnect the antenna/modem that connects the cars to the Internet?

It’s not that LTT can’t afford piracy, it’s that pirating content that is made using ethical and honest business practices and treats their employees well (at least from what it appears) sends the wrong message. Piracy should only be used when companies give you a reason to avoid using legal methods of accessing their content.

EDIT (8/16/23): Yeah, I've changed my mind given recent events. Sail away!

That's why I tattooed my twins initials on their foreheads backwards at birth, that way if they ever forget who they are, they can just look in the mirror. Billy and Bobby will never forget who they are.

Every tenth line of code needs a comment break for a detailed ascii “drawing” of human hands

To maintain freshness

They argued in court that the iconic characters on their shows are not journalists and that they aren’t a “news” channel for most of the day….and won.

My wife and I average $69k/year each and we're doing...just okay-ish. We can pay our mortgage (bought 12 years ago, couldn't afford our house if we bought it today), one nice 5 year-old car, some student loan debt, bills, some entertainment and eating out occasionally, some tech like tablets and phones so they aren't over five years old. But we can't pay for house repairs, a major card breakdown/repair, or any vacation that is more than a day's drive away. We can probably restructure our finances to do be a little better off, but for the life of me, I don't know how family that is making less than $80k gets by, let alone $30k, or even less.

Why haven’t they? Didn’t they give him a 10-day extension? It’s been more than that, and he doesn’t have a proper bond. What’s holding everything up now?

I think they have to be lenient to give the other co-dependents incentive to flip.

Available, yes. Playable, greatly depends on how much GPU you bought with your Mac.

I'm not currently subscribed, but if they don't have an option to disable this I will never subscribe again. For that matter, any streaming service that doesn't allow me to watch a movie/show uninterrupted from beginning to end is a showstopper for me. I can only imagine what streaming services will start doing if they are okay with adding a banner or cutting a stream for news. Ads will be right behind it.

What redesign?

I know a lot of people were cheering Prigozhin on when he started a mutiny towards Moscow, but by all means he was a terrible human being.

That's only true if he can pardon himself for the election interference. That's not going to happen unless they move the case to federal court.

I cannot believe that in the year 2023 people were still paying for a Google service that was supposed to last beyond 30 days. Especially one that was supposed to have a long-term reward. You would have to have so much blind trust in Google at that point.

EDIT: I now understand that this was a a two-year installment plan for the existing phone. That being said, I still don't think anyone should buy into Google products or services expecting them to have long-term support. Google has shown time and time again that they are willing to kill any and all projects at any time with almost no warning.

That would basically match Apple for the realistic life of a phone. That being said, Apple did just release a security update for the 5s.

Weird Al should be all over this.

This is the dumbest opinion I’ve read in a while. I know three people with Lyme disease. One of them is a kid whose face drops on one side if they get too tired. And they are tired all the time because of having Lyme disease.

Are you looking for the word, "forgotten"?

They are going to make Battlefield into Fortnite, aren't they?

My wife and I were massive fans of D3, so buying D4 was a no-brainer. We liked the campaign, and we (begrudgingly) completed the first season. We didn't finish the second season, and only played about 2 hours of the third season. Unless they do something drastic in future seasons I don't see this becoming the hit for us that D3 was. They have time to make it better, but it will probably be shelved for a couple years for us.

How will they be notified if they never log into the account?

I think calling it DRM is incorrect. I think Apple and its audience belief you should be able to tell if a replacement part could be counterfeit, and possibly have a security vulnerability as a result. However, it should be a one-time notice that a user can dismiss and continue using the phone's complete functionality.

For example, if someone replaces a camera module, Face ID could technically be compromised. That said, the security for Face ID is on the device itself, and replacing the module with a third-party one, as long as they was made aware it may not be as secure as the original part, let them do what they want with their own device.

EDIT: If it were me, I would want to know a part in my phone is not directly from Apple, but I would still want the ability to determine if I want to continue using the phone like that or straight up replace it. It should be the user's decision.

Age limit tied to Social Security retirement age and joining the military, voting, smoking, and drinking tied to the same age (18 or 21, take your pick). We either need to say people are of the appropriate age to do these things, or not. This cherry-picking bullshit has to go. Also, term limits. The constitution wasn't meant for a congressperson or senator to be in the same seat for 40+ years.

No way it will every reach a current gen console because of the thermal restrictions of how small it is and the battery not being able to power a chip that is capable of modern games with 4/HDR/etc. But I'm sure if they use a modern efficient SoC it can push out some pretty good graphics.

Only because no one has said it yet, headphones. You can get a really great set of headphones for $200 or so, but if you want it to sound a little better you're looking at $500-$700. But music can sound a bit better if you get better equipment for around $1200. Then you hear a $2000 set-up, and you chase that, until you hear a $5000 kit. And it just keeps going.

I think you answered your own question. He’s playing the Trump bit. Saying extreme things to get news headlines and people talking about him. And it’s working to some extent.
