To be honest I didn't really care about the API thing because I used the web interface anyway. But the fact that they had this outrage from users and their answer was "LOL who cares" made me leave.

Yes, the Finnish Bureau of Investigation

If you still have a fridge or oven that takes incandescent bulbs, isn't it better to replace the bulb than the fridge? If the point is minimal environmental impact then I think that makes sense.

No, they knew exactly what employees wanted. They just didn't expect them to actually leave over it.

So I'm your husband and my wife is you. I can tell you the reason I do it is that it can be difficult for me to necessarily formulate exactly what I want to say about what I want to show you. I want to share whatever experience it is, but trying to explain exactly why stresses me out.

On the flip side my wife will just tell me what she saw after the fact and I'm left there thinking "...why didn't you tell me to come look."

The steam deck controls are honestly too important for me to consider anything else. The fact that I can play mouse and keyboard games with no issues is huge.

This isn't Reddit, there's no account-wide tracking of special Internet points to worry about.

Little bit of a strange article.

First, it's about data transfer speeds. I don't think... anyone else in my extended family, and certainly none of the iPhone users, use a cable to transfer data frequently.

But more importantly - the subtitle of the article says that only the pro models offer faster charging speeds. Despite the article being exclusively about data transfer speeds.

This is my biggest problem with it. I have no issue with Sync charging. I have an issue with Sync charging and not passing anything on to the developers of Lemmy.

I use Firefox everywhere, but there are a few main issues that stop me from converting people...

  • The lack of tab groups. This seems silly, but most people I know, especially on mobile, keep a lot of tabs open. If they're researching something, or shopping for something they'll leave 20 tabs open. Having that in one tab group in Chrome is a better way to organize than just tons of tabs.
  • Sites that don't work well on Firefox. Again, specifically on mobile I run into sites that work on Chrome but not on Firefox.
  • General stability issues. I need to force close Firefox once or twice a day because it will just fail to load pages.

I think the response is meant to be tongue in cheek.

Honest but unpopular answer? He might believe he can make more money holding on to the $180k. It's the same reason why I would take a 2% car loan even if I had enough to buy the car outright. I can make more than 2% just keeping that money in a mutual fund.

It makes sense that general purpose instances would have the most users. I'm not a programmer so while I could still register there why would I pick programmer.dev?

The bigger issue I had in picking an instance was just in understanding the differences. I think it would help if instances advertised their stance on defederation, moderation, etc... to help people make a decision (or even to see that lemmy.world may be more similar to some other instances than they might think).

There is competition - New Holland, Massey Ferguson, Case IH, etc... The problem is that despite all the anti-consumer nonsense John Deere still tops the lists as the best option.

Well the counterfeit versions don't have microchips in them.

I would happily keep slaving my phone to my car to avoid paying for extra services.

I'm just wondering where the heck the PC port is. Not going to lie, I would buy it at full price if it were steam deck compatible.

Not on Reddit or YouTube or anything else that serves ads from the same domain.

A 200kWh battery pack to get 450 miles of quoted range. 2.25mi/kWh. I understand it's competing for the attention of people who would otherwise buy a gas Escalade, but that's still a little crazy.

Also are we going to talk about the fact that I've never heard anyone outside of the south pronounce pecan as "pee-can?"

That's not how their book lending works. There are a limited number of copies and they can only be checked out in a DRM-protected format. Unless you strip the DRM from them you cannot print them out.

I'm kind of an anti-purist. Give me an emulator with save states and rewind, a scalefx filter and whatever other nonsense. Add on the convenience of emulators and it's no contest for me.

I remember WaterFox but this is getting ridiculous.

I do find it funny when people talk about how few extensions are supported, when it has the best extension support of any mobile browser.

Like I get it, but still.

I have a Steam Deck and was considering "upgrading" to something that has more power.

But then I wanted to play Torchlight 2, an action-rpg designed for mouse and keyboard that does not have controller support. I wasn't even going to try it, but saw that Runic Games had an input profile for it. The left stick controls your character like it supporter controllers, but it's all using the mouse. The touchpads work for precise targeting. And I'm able to use all 10 skill buttons using modifier keys and adding the back buttons. Plus I was able to easily adapt this to Diablo 3, a non-steam game without controller support.

If you want to be limited to games designed with controllers in mind, go for one of the alternatives. But if you want to be able to play mouse and keyboard games, there's nothing that competes with the Steam Deck.

Frunk. The drunk goes behind the wheel in the passenger seat.

Yeah, that was my point.

It's sad to me that Pence seems like a reasonable candidate in this list.

It happened after we moved from unlimited data to capped data and back again.

Views that show you multiple communities would be great. Let me see both major Steam Deck communities in one view.

I think he means tabs along the top like on a PC browser.

I went to a restaurant in the middle of nowhere that had a QR code menu as default. None of the major cellphone carriers have service there and the only way to get cell coverage in the town is through a local cell carrier. I was so confused as to why they decided that was the solution for their restaurant.

Nah I'm just curious after seeing the meme post about manual transmissions.

Music services are almost a necessity to me because of the amount of music I listen to, but it's also a different animal. They all have mostly the same library, so you won't typically be subscribing to more than one.

The problem with streaming video services is that most people watch a couple genres, and there's content in every genre on every streaming platform. I watch a lot of scifi, for example. So I would need to subscribe to Apple TV for Silo and Foundation, Paramount+ for Star Trek, etc...

I don't know about "ethical" but justified yeah.

Certainly if media is not available for purchase I have no problem with people pirating it. But also if it's not available in a reasonably accessible format. For example, I wanted to show my son the original TMNT show. I would have happily bought it on Vudu, Amazon or Play Movies, but it's only available on iTunes. I have all Android devices and don't even have a personal Windows device, so I would need to jump through serious hoops to get it working if I bought it.

Then you should stop using YouTube.

They're not super saturating it. They're putting an amount of sugar in the tea that can dissolve at room temperature, it just takes a long time to do so.

And even if it's on their printed menu, you might look at the menu on Google Maps and see one place has a dish for $20 and another place had the same dish for $24. You go to the cheaper place and sit down and see the 18% fee. Are you necessarily going to leave and go to the other one?

Well I never!

Ubuntu version numbers are very easy to track against the years, because they are the years. Ubuntu 8.X was released in 2008. If it was 2010 it would have been Ubuntu 10.X.
