Is this real?

Well it used to be slipknot/KoRn/Limp Bizkit etc etc, but now nu metal is cool with all the zoomers, so I'm no longer embarrassed of being a nu metal kid. It's been pretty cool to reconnect with that stuff without fear! Tbh there are a lot of KoRn tracks that slap, and you can hear their influence in a lot of the underground metal music I listen to. The band chat pile that's pretty popular right now cites KoRn as an influence. Limp Bizkit is still preeeeeetty fuckin bad though. I fuck with some tracks off of 3 Dollar Bill Y'all$, but so much of it is just corny as hell. System of a Down was always considered dope so they don't count

I think lemmy.ml was getting money from NLnet by completing Milestones, but now that they're scrambling to handle bugs and doing Q&A constantly I think they're losing out on that funding. At least that's what Dessalines reported, I believe

Haha that was one of my first CDs as well. Loved that shit

I haven't really noticed that, but I also haven't dug into the comments too much recently. But, of course if thousands upon thousands of redditors jump onto this platform it's going to change the culture. Maybe try beehaw.org. they are.known for blocking a ton of instances but i think it's heavily moderated towards people being trolls.

It's my hope that a lot of the people who want to turn lemmy into reddit will get bored and leave since the interface isn't as convenient as reddit

!stoner_rock@sh.itjust.works just found one, woo!

Sir...this is a Lemmys. Reddit is a click away, go back there

THANK YOU for posting the full article!!

I really hope that actual concrete moves are made to initiate disbursement of reparations. I find it interesting, however, that they open the article talking about the failures of police reform. It's like after poloticians saw the power of the people after the George Floyd uprisings, they want to increase police militarization and just throw money at the people who created the movement to placate them. The kind of money they are talking about can be life changing, but it isn't going to solve the problem of police violence against black people. Both should be addressed.

Cinematic masterpiece

Edit: actually this one is the cinematic masterpiece. I actually do wanna go to the Gathering

Right with you on this. I got a BA in psychology nearly ten years ago and since then I've done a lot of personal therapy as well as researching complex ptsd, neurodivergence, polyvagal theory and working in social services for at least six. This shit is dangerous, I feel like it can be a very convenient way to escape culpability, to think in black and white instead of engaging in nuance, and can keep people emotionally immature. It can also be very weaponized and potentially uses to gaslight people which is in and of itself really traumatizing.

That being said I think "trigger" and "gaslight" are some words that people do not understand at all, and it feels like it devalues a person's experience whose gone through trauma. Someone on a subreddit was talking about their mom gaslighting them because mom denied that OP was autistic. I gently mentioned that that situation was not gaslighting; it was belittling, sure, but it was a disagreement which is VERY different from someone constructing an elaborate, long game psychological manipulation in order to make you question your own reality. A bunch of people jumped down my throat for that, but like, that's dangerous because that kinda implies that their mom is abusive, when from that context that's not who she is. Black and white thinking.

Oh man for whatever reason this is a top tier cringe band from my teen years lol. Used to jam them on my discman on my way to PE

Oooo I wanna check it out! Who should I search for?

I'm curious what old songs you might be thinking of? I was a wannabe raver in middle school and an actual one at the end of highschool lol. I may know what's up

Hahaha damn you roasted them so hard. True I guess I don't see too many people repping them, I just know they played Madison Square Garden with Scowl, though, so I assumed it's what you whippersnappers are into

Wow, that's fucked. Was the dudes name Randy or something? I think I vaguely remember hearing about that

I got to see them perform with Lingua Ignota, weirdest combo ever.

Lol aw man I'm definitely getting old; I remember when Skrillex came out and kinda ruined the genre tbh, it was so totally different when it first emerged, it actually sounded like dub. So I'm not familiar with any of those guys, they were after my time.

I think it probably depends on the listener but yeah, if I try to listen to most mid 80s hip hop, it's so rudimentary that it's really hard for me to a tuslly get into. Like Run DMC, or NWA. I can get into NWA but the novelty runs out quickly so I can only listen to them very rarely. But there are a lot of newer bands that I hear and say "I've already heard x y and z do this better" so it's hard to get excited about new stuff too. If you are a really avid music listener I think it has to take something exceptional coming out to really get impressed by

Nice, good to know they've still got it. I got to see them once waaaay back, like 2004 or something for the Subliminal Verses tour I believe.

Dude I had sega channel, it was so cool! I believe you could play games all the way through and they grouped them by different genres, and the games changed monthly. They also had contests where you could win prizes. I won a backpack for one! Wish I still had it

Protip that I learned not too long ago for mobile: as soon as you start to load the page for an article behind a pay wall, tap your airplane mode button, if you catch it at the right time. The paywall won't load. Has been working well for me

The timeline convergence is definitely a theory that I've thought about before. I definitely believe in ghosts, but not in the Christian sense. I've had too many unexplainable experiences that have never happened before or after, so there must be an explanation that we as a species are not advanced enough to have proven scientifically...yet

When I was a kid, middleschool or so, I would hang out on the computer in my dad's room while he went out to the bar. So I'd just be up til 1 or 2 am watching Adult Swim and making nerdy websites on envy.nu. Normally I'd still be up by the time my dad got home, he would rap on the window to his bedroom window and I'd come unlock the door for him, that was standard.

One night, I was chillin doing my thing, when I heard a loud "KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK", which to me sounded like it was on the bedroom door, but I thought I mustve misheard. I pushed apart the window curtains to see if he was at the window, he wasn't. So I walk through the super dark hallway that freaked me out already which led to the front door. The porch light is on, and I don't see him through the front door windows. I shrug it off and go back to the bedroom. Ten minutes pass, something like that. Again, another "KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK" on the door. These are obvious, unmistakable knocks. Almosy like a cop knock. I crack open the bedroom door, and again nothing. Now I was freaked, but I tried to keep my composure. Turned up the volume on Adult Swim to make myself feel a little less alone, and yet again, another couple of knocks on the door. At that set of knocks I jump into his bed and pull the covers over me, and went to sleep with the lights on.

My family on my dad's side are all pretty superstitious, my grandma was from Louisiana and I think that maybe influenced it a bit. My dad, grandma, uncles, all had shared ghost stories so I grew up believing in them, and we all knew that house was super haunted. My dad, prior to this, had spent countless hours using makeshift ouija boards in the house so that was our explanation..so, to me, the fact that it seemed so real and the thought hadn't even crossed my mind that it may have been a ghost, makes me feel like I wasn't just hearing things and misinterpreted it. I've had other experiences in that house and other ones. But, it's not every house that I get "ghost vibes" in, only particular ones.

I would like to know how you define "the past". Because the CIA is still active, and I am hard presses to think that they are not involved in the same activities that they have been since their inception. My response was flippant, as any loss of a life is horrible, but the CIA has plenty of blood on its hands, and nefarious intent.

Lol I say legit all of the time. I think the difference for me is that using clinical language like this can be weaponized to justify abusive behavior, whereas the meaning of "legitimate" colloquially is innocuous.

An example is Clementine Morrigan who is an online personality, influencer, whatever. She has weaponized therapeutic and abolitionist language in order to cape for her manipulative, abusive partner who has taken advantage of numerous people. They now have a podcast together that's about "anti cancel culture" with thousands of viewers; she has over 100k followers on Instagram who may take in a lot of what she says even if it can be detrimental to others

I signed up with beehaw first, but realized that they were defederated from lemmygrad, which I wanted access to. As I became more acquainted with lemmy and started looking into the "flavors" of the different instances, I joined lemmy.ml because they are unapologetic communists and won't defederate with lemmygrad.

As an aside, it's fucking insane to me that lemmygrad is so controversial yet there's crickets about exploding-heads and people are happy to be on instances that don't block them. Cool

So there are a bunch of different things in this post thay seem to need answers so Ill try my best to find resources for you.

First off, neuroprotection is defined as "the relative preservation of neuronal structure and/or function". So we have thousands if not millions of neurons in our body, and each neuron releases neurotransmitters such as endorphins, serotonin, dopamine etc. To be absorbed by other neurons which affect our mood and bodily functions.

Some fungi, such as Lions mane mushrooms have been shown to potentially aid in neuron growth and improve symptoms of alzheimers. In this way they can be neuroprotective.

Now, it has been found that autistic people experience synaptic pruning at a much, much lower rate than neurotypical people. Synapses are like little connectors that help neurons communicate with eachother. As infants we all experience synaptic overgrowth, then we experience synaptic pruning which gets rid of less efficient connections.

Knowing that, my brain goes to thinking that if anything Lions mane might reinforce some aspects of autism! That's just my first thought though and is probably inaccurate.

I don't know much about how adaptogens work, and I've never really considered a connection to autism before but I did a little digging but there seems to be no real research on this. From my limited understanding, adaptogens seem to work similar to how ingesting vitamins and minerals might work, or coffee or tea. They also cover a broad range of herbs and fungi and they all work differently.

Do you mind explaining how the cordyceps tea made you feel "less autistic"? So far there is no research indicating that there is or will be any "cure" for autism or way to "rewire your brain" to get rid of your autism. If anything, it is likely that adaptogens might help you feel calmer or more focused, where the stress or anxiety might be caused by overstimulation experienced due to autism. So like the overstimulation may remain but they may help to manage it more effectively. Does that make sense?

Dang that's cool, I'll have to try some! Yeah, I mean they do affect how your brain functions in the moment, similar to coffee, green tea, alcohol, etc. But it seems that there may be more long term changes, if we look at the lions mane example. Sounds like a super interesting thing to do a deep dive on, though! Idk if there is a whole lot of scientific literature on them but I like to find peer reviewed scientific articles. If you read just the abstract and the conclusion you usually are able to get the info you're looking for

What exactly are you concerned about? Like are there any particular outcomes that scare you? I doubt that anything you take would make a huge, substantial, permanent change that you would notice, but again this is all just my assumption but I've taken reishi, kava, ginseng, all kinds of tea etc and I haven't noticed drastic changes after my body metabolizes it

Hahaha Ive had Blind stuck in my head for like 3 days. I stopped listening to them when I was still in highschool but have dabbled in the past year or two and it's such a good nostalgia hit

Pshhhh get me some molly and that song will still go so hard lol

(I am the same OP, just using my lemmy.ml account now that the site isn't down for me) The person who responded to this before I was able gave some pretty general information regarding my thoughts on North Korea here. I used to eat up all of the American propaganda just like everyone else and fancied myself a leftist as well. But as a leftist, we should all know that we should be highly critical of most news media. I'm also living in the US so that's the perspective I'm bringing here, btw. Anyway, I have done a bit of research and that small amount has changed my mind drastically on how I look at communist countries.

I am not here to say that I think there is nothing problematic about the place, but their position was largely foisted upon them by imperialism. I cannot fault them for the extreme stance, whether I agree with it or not. Also, I feel that the hysteria around these countries whipped up by the US serves to distract us from how truly fucked up our country is. 25 percent of people in the US are food insecure, 21 percent are illiterate, there are daily mass shootings and constant acts of terrorism, train derailments poisoning towns all in the name of money, we are more and more becoming a police state....We can't say for sure that we definitely have it better here just because we can leave, or that we live with the illusion of choice.

In your response, you wrote "My impression is it's basically a slave state with a God King". I would implore you, when you can, when you have energy, to do a bit of research on things like this when your impression is so extreme. You don't need to change your stance, you can still feel how you feel, but base that on some semblance of research. If you're curious I'm happy to try and whip up some articles or youtube videos for you to check out that might be interesting.

Outside of that, relating back to comparing the ideology of Marxist Leninists to hate speech: hate speech is defined as "abusive or threatening speech or writing that expresses prejudice on the basis of ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or similar grounds." I have not seen any of this kind of speech on lemmygrad, or from anyone who identifies as ML. In fact a lot of ML's are staunchly opposed to racism, sexism, homophobia/transphobia, etc. and are part of marginalized groups. Marxist Leninists are not pacifists and from what I gather do believe that war and violence are necessary for revolution but I've never seen anyone advocate for genocide, so I feel that the connection is heavy handed. That being said, that's just my opinion, man, and the mods for beehaw can do what they wish
