Honestly this is one of the only things holding me back from going to graphene. Once this is available to non alpha users I might make the switch properly.

More people need to operate like Linus Torvalds. Call people on their shit. Respectfully of course.

Even the people I know who aren't all in on the fediverse are off of Twitter. Why are we still talking about it? The more news coverage the more it continues to exist. Stop covering Elon and let it die.

Garuda is great. It did get me addicted to the fish shell though and I've since moved back to windows for work reasons and I hate everything now.

Do people really have issues with HDR? I calibrated my TV once when I bought it and it's been incredible since.

I'm deep into the seven seas but I still use prime because a family member pays for it. Its a decent enough ui and has some live stuff I can throw on to keep kids entertained. However, I've already added the shows I watch on prime to my jellyfin server just because this change is going to make me not want to use it anymore.

Do you think there is 1 copy of a book on Pompeii and a single hard drive? Your idea makes sense to my high cousin. So are you just high fam?

Hosting my own with jellyfin has honestly changed my consumption of media.

My in-laws have all Roku tvs. I had to go over and "fix" the TV's for them cause they didn't understand what the hell this was. I straight up just gave them my modded Nvidia shields and bought myself some more. Fuck that shit. We need a better open source tv like interface. I've used plasma big screen but it's not ready for normal people with not Linux but fixing experience.

I mean who cares? But also why? My old job title was "software engineer" and I just did web dev.

But why though?

I don't understand the hate for ambient mode. I've barely noticed it exists.

For me only certain movies are worth the space on my server that a high quality 4k rip would take up. I do most everything in 1080 and specific films in 4k. Besides that most people aren't going to see a real difference unless you have a good home theater set up

DRM sucks. We don't need more of it.

Protect your privacy and use a no log VPN. This article is just as much bs as he claims VPN marketing is.

I'd hop to this in a heartbeat. I do enjoy pop os and I've been looking for a reason to go back to Fedora since I've been on openSUSE for a while.

Ok but actually what does this do?

The sad part is, a few years ago I gladly paid for the Disney Hulu bundle along with HBO. Now it's all gone to shit and they never even improved the Disney Plus app. My subscription payments are long gone and I'm better off for it.

Drink up me hearties yo ho

The only good part of Reddit was dumb shit like this not showing up on my feeds.

I'm one of the crazy people who spent 4 grand on a 85 inch dumb display meant for stores to use as digital signage. Honestly a great decision. It's no home theater display but damn if it isn't just as good as any smart tv I've seen. I just have it hooked to a raspberry pi running librelec.

Nextcloud is technically a solid product if your goal is to replace all the Google services. Personally I think it's too heavy and I've had issues with using it vs using specialized apps for each service I'm replacing.

I keep going back and forth with Firefox and Vivaldi. The chrome based browsers just tend to run better. I love firefox on mobile but on desktop it's tougher for me to stick with. Also Mozilla seems to have a different goal for the future with all the other products and ai weirdness they recently announced.

I just downloaded it yesterday from F-Droid yeah. It's in the Izzy repo.

I've got an order out for a digital signage display to replace my living room tv. It was more than I would've spent on a "smart" tv but it's a dumb box that I can plug anything I want into. If they sold dumb TV's still I'd probably upgrade some of the other TV's my family has, but fuck smart TV's.

As long as a gnome spin stays maintained. I've been using gnome for 8 years and I really don't want to switch distros again.

Most people don't give a shit and just want a system that works. As a lot of distros switch to / have switched to Wayland I have never noticed any issues in daily usage of any of my devices, in fact my surface laptop 4 can't do external displays if I'm running x11 but that feels like a surface issue not a display manager issue. Point being that the switch is happening and a majority of users do not care as long as their systems keep running, and in my experience there's no reason to believe they won't.

In my personal experience the jellyfin clients just aren't as good. I play my whole jellyfin library through Kodi and everything direct plays without issue.

Shame. I remember when they were one of my favorite tech sites.

If my memory is correct there was a comic that takes place in between the two but I'm not sure where to find it.

This is the main reason why I buy the a series pixel phones. Generally they are smaller. Not small enough IMO, but smaller than the major flagships for sure.

I love tumbleweed and leap for my servers. I found out tumbleweed works on surface devices without having to use the surface kernel at all which was a big step I didn't like doing on my laptop. Since then I moved all my stuff to opensuse stuff to keep it consistent across all my systems.

This is true. Which is why Mozilla needs to focus on making a better browser instead of adding their own ai bullshit.

If you want to host it, audiobook shelf is great. I use it for audiobooks, ebooks, and podcasts.

Other than that I'd just say get a library card and use Libby. If you have files in your phone playbook works but I don't remember if its on fdroid.

I've got a wife and a kid and I will say that I live in butt-fuck nowhere where everything is cheaper than anywhere else, however groceries are still getting way too expensive.

I moved to Antennapod then ended up using Audiobookshelf since I was already hosting it for my wife's audiobooks.

For kids stuff I found stremio and torrentio to be easy if a bit convoluted to set up.

What?

Ubuntu is Debian with extra steps.

Tailscale is probably your best option.
