Good to know just so I know to go to an instance that doesn't block this community. I don't blame .world for being careful. This is indeed the Fediverse working as intended.

Something about living long enough and becoming the villain...

EDIT: Phew, my age is showing trying to use a meme phrase! This didn't convey what I intended. I meant to say that .world has been unfairly vilified by some. Will be more judicious in using this phrase in the future!

"Is this the kind of conduct that the Republican party or the American people want for someone who's going to be president?"

Yes to Republican party, no to American people.

And besides closing registrations, many others required that you request it, then wait for approval. Of course most went with the path of least resistance - I know I did (using an alt account now because of the DDOS attacks).

We were notified through a c/Mildly Infuriating post. True pirates are used to having to make some effort to get their content!

Yeah, really. I get why some instances want to be selective, but it was a bit jarring to me just how many were when I was looking for a way to try Lemmy out.

For whoever's curious, the actual text is "So they got hitched as soon as possible. And they lived horribly ever after, scaring the socks off all who fell afoul of them."

When I googled "What countries in Africa start with a K", it gave the correct answer, but when I googled "Do any countries in Africa start with a K", it gave me the ChatGPT nonsense.

There's nothing wrong with making an alt account for when .world is down. In fact, it's very much in the spirit of the fediverse to do so.

Yeah, that was a dumb reason, I agree. But I also think it was inevitable with .world being the biggest instance. They're the first place in Lemmy any corporation will go to if they wanna sue.

Yes, but it's huge, over 100GB. BG3 all over again!

I looked it up, and you're 100% correct - you can tell because there's a stereotypical limp-wristed hand to the left of Che's face on that shirt, which you can see in the picture. No duality here, this guy's just another right-wing asshole.

I've never had a problem with them.

Yes. The Republican Party is people who are registered Republicans, the American people is everyone who's a citizen of the United States. Most Republicans support this behavior, most Americans do not, which is why Republican presidential candidates always lose the popular vote.

Check megathread on sidebar.

Yup, 3rd weak episode in a row. Hoping they'll manage just one great one this season.

What's "maters," precious? What's "maters," eh?

Lemmy.world is about a year old. It definitely wasn't two years ago.

To be creepy and kooky, mysterious and spooky, altogether ooky.

It's not useless - they're not trying to keep you from coming here, they're trying to avoid liability for themselves.

With the return YouTube dislike add-on, it shows as remaining in balance.

It may be copyright infringement, but not stealing.

But what about capitalism and food production?

This sub disappeared from my subscriptions on my .world account, but it was a c/Mildly Infuriating post that tipped me off.

Considering the "Explovid-23" virus we saw in the season teaser, you've got at least one more that is.

The only time I see piracy as unethical is if you would have paid for it otherwise and it's a small creator who will actually notice the lesser revenue. This covers very, VERY few cases because the vast majority of the time if something is good enough to want to pirate it, it's popular enough that more than enough people paid for it to adequately compensate the creator.

Basically, are you hurting the creator's ability to make a living by pirating it? Giving them less money when they already have more than enough doesn't qualify.

Clearly we are not.

"Your feelings are valid!"

DDOS attacks working as intended.

An AI writing about why it sucks? How human.

Downvoting for science!

It's not really a Streisand effect, because .world doesn't give a shit if you go to those places or not - they just don't want the liability of you doing it from their instance.

Not yet, just waiting for it.

No, Denuvo was first used in Sept. 2014 and Fallout 4 came out Nov. 2015.

Still downloading for me, but I see more than one review saying it takes a long time to get good. I'm keeping my expectations low.

EDIT: Glad I was warned it starts slow. It does get better if you stick with it.

EDIT 2: It entertained me for a week. It's no Skyrim, or even Fallout. I would have been pissed if I'd paid for it.
