um actually she is tomb raider's monster, it's a common misconception

I think it's because ML is a popular shorthand for 'Marxist-Leninist' since they mostly seem to be communist servers

Thanks, I know what it stands for but I am trying to explain why that particular top-level domain was picked for those lemmy instances

I prefer to call them LLMs (Large Language Models). It’s how they are referred to in the industry and I think it’s far more accurate than “AI”

It’s not jumping to conclusions; it’s actually pretty well-known. The devs and their instance are very open about being Marxist-Leninists.

I don’t see how machine learning is related to Lemmy in any way

lmao fuck tankies

Considering that the right-wing memed Trump into office, I think it is only fitting that memes are what destroy them

Thats not a rebuttal. The .ml instance is run by Marxist-Leninists

That’s not true. There are a few other free TLDs. I think five total?

How can we call our system a democracy when one unelected man can hold so much power?

I’d love if the McPoyles from It’s Always Sunny were just thrown into a random panel

So the president can just do whatever they want with no consequences at all?

This was a good read and it’s something I’ve wondered about. The fediverse is sorta built on this promise that everyone will be able to interact across any implementation of ActivityPub.

But that’s not really true. The different types of social media have wildly different implementations, where we have to rely on developers communicating and cooperating with other implementations for everything to work even a little bit

Holy shit this is actually kind of a huge story

I think it might be good to create specific protocols in the ActivityPub documentation for the various types of social media to ensure interoperability.

No hard rules, but a guideline for how to ensure you are maximizing compatibility, maybe.

I can’t believe someone else is having the exact same conversation with the exact same person as me

To be fair, money would still be going to Rowling. She is probably the most vocal advocate against trans rights and she has been cited in policies that endanger the lives of trans people. I think that is a much more reasonable boycott than being upset about pronouns

LETS FUCKING GOOOO

Don’t forget about payment processors like visa that can enforce restrictions on NSFW content

Good. Make room for a real dem

I’ve never felt that country TLDs were worth using and this has only cemented that opinion for me

wrong. vuash created nato after genociding a village of children and trying to come up with a more efficient method

you forgot to call me ’kind stranger’. you’ve just been demoted to silver

This is a really good start for securing the fediverse. Thank you for your work!

🥵

it's what the banner says in the image you posted

This is something I have worried about for a while. The core concept of the fediverse makes stuff like this really easy to do and there’s not really a solution. I guess government agencies just need to be on the lookout for it?

I love it solely for the LWA reference

That’s not really how most recommendation algorithms work. A good basic algorithm would be showing you content that the people you follow are following or showing popular posts from a certain category that you tend to like

Well it’s hard to blame the people when information and propaganda are controlling their lives in such a specific way.

Manufactured consent is a very real thing

I actually don’t think this is a good use for NPCs. There’s tons of videos of people just getting them to say the craziest stuff and I don’t think it adds anything to the game.

It remains far better to have a writer carefully constructing the world and the dialogue

You’re right and I have been considering this from the other commenter. It could be pretty interesting.

The only other consideration I’d have as a hobby developer is that it would be pretty expensive for a minor gain, but perhaps major studios wouldn’t have a problem with that

It’s because a lot of people here are people who miss the earlier days of the internet and are trying to recreate that feeling. I’m not that old but it’s got me feeling nostalgic so I enjoy it

I come to 196 for the education

I was literally just thinking about this and I think you're right

You’re 100% right. The people who are already on these platforms are the ones that don’t like any algorithm at all, so they tend to be combative about its implementation. I don’t think there will be mainstream appeal until it is easy and fun to use for the average person

lmao

That’s rough, buddy

You’ve gone back too far! I meant mid to late aughts (2005-2010)
