Transfered from Feddit.ch as they closed up shop unfortunately.

Thank you. I clearly need to prioritize learning more about ports. I have had little time to try fixing this issue (hence why this comment is so late) but figured out it was VPN related. My phone's VPN was blocking connection. After enabling local network bypass another SMB entry appeared with the accurate IP, if required me to only enter my username and then it connected fine.

I really enjoy the Gulikit King Kong Pro 2 (and would assume the 3 is better) because it all runs on firmware. No software to install, it just works as it should. Also works on Linux without fuss.

On its functionality side it has hall effect triggers and joysticks plus nice buttons.

Is it Linux or Android based?

You can try Fedora on a Surface with the Ublue variants such as Aurora and Bluefin, there are ISOs specifically for the Surface. Fedora atomic variants work very well. I found Fedora Kinoite works great with a touchscreen laptop.

You're welcome. I find Fedora to be much more up to date and refined than Ubuntu but also very stable still, at least the atomic variants as those are what I use. Also Ubuntu has all the controversy about trying to force their own packages at you as well as other things

I have Earthbound on my new Retro DMG but haven't played it yet. Thanks for referencing the ROM hack, I'll play that one instead as it seems like a vanilla + experience

"A primary concern for Petrucelli, Jenkins, and Antell, longtime documentary filmmakers and co-founders of the Archival Producers Alliance (APA), is to avoid a situation in which AI-generated images make their way into documentaries without proper disclosure, creating a false historical record."

They shouldn't be in a documentary period. A documentary is meant to be factual and historical so nothing fake should be injected into it.

I find most people don't know of the alternatives but they are open to change as they are unhappy with current options that they are aware of. I've talked with a few people that were surprisingly open to to trying Linux. They didn't know how easy it is to use and install but jumped on the opportunity as they were unhappy with Windows.

Don't forget that large data centers also use lots of water for cooling. Maybe if all this data that's harvested off of users is deleted we can save power and water

Let's not focus on the consumer, but rather the poor business practices of large companies as we need to unite for those to change.

I've used Lineage on multiple devices, Calyx, and Graphene. Graphene by far has the least issues (basically none), and the best compatibility in my experiences. Being able to relock the boot loader is perfect for a mobile device too.

I really love Fedora Kinoite. Like you said, everything just works. It's fantastically boring

FreeCAD and MangoJelly on YouTube has great tutorials.

I enjoyed the show. Even my wife who doesn't like these types of shows enjoyed it mostly besides the gore. She liked the different perspectives from the main characters

I've recently converted two people from Windows to Linux with Fedora Kinoite. One of them has been using it for maybe two months now without a single issue and the other just started using it with positive first impressions. I find it very modern, simple, and familiar. The atomic system just works too. I enjoy it much more than Mint

I don't know and I won't be testing it. This computer is for my Dad and will be his first Linux experience so I can't be running any experiments. It would be interesting to find out though

BleachBit is a must have and PhotoGIMP is pretty neat.

Mint feels dated to me after using KDE Plasma 6 (which is now my favorite)

We cannot let this become the new norm

Fantastic. I've been planning to install it on a new PC build this weekend so the timing works out well

Linux Mint Debian Edition XFCE like someone else said already.

On a second note, maybe you'll find the program Scribus of interest to you.

With that attitude unfortunately change will never happen. Sure, it sounds like a lost cause but again, nothing ever changes in any facet of life with that mentality.

I'll checkout the ublue stuff, thanks for the heads up. I started with Mint but agree with you, Kinoite is a perfect replacement. Very familiar UI, very modern, and all the stuff you said.

In addition to other things people responded with, piracy services tend to not collect users data or prevent us from watching with a VPN enabled.

This will be my first major Kodi update. I'm using Arctic Zephyr Reloaded skin, Seren, and Asgard. Will I have to wait for some sort of confirmation that they will work on Kodi 21 or should they already work with no updating/porting required? I've been holding off on the update because of this.

My Epson printer registered as two different printers with slightly different names but only one selection works to actually print. Have you looked into that?

This is super cool with all the modern features

PS. I've been using Mint for around 2yrs but after recently messing around with Fedora Kinoite and Bazzite both with Plasma it really shows how dated Mint is. Fedora with Plasma is sooo modern and filled with great features.

This is interesting though at first glance seems a little over my head. I'll read more into it. Thank you.

PS. This is another comment I can only see and reply to in my inbox. I can't see it on my post. I don't know if this is a Lemmy, server, or Voyager issue.

Maybe the Framework 13. I'd suggest an AMD APU. Something with the 7840U/HS or the 8840U/HS. It's iGPU is very potent. Use the Bazzite OS and OnlyOffice with Microsoft fonts installed is a fantastic MS Office alternative.

That's not native to Kinoite and since the computer is for my Dad and it'll be his first Linux experience I don't want to be adding things with RPM-OSTree. I did add some more info on the key into my post. I hope that helps you

I'll check it out. You're the second person to mention Aurora to me recently

I did and got the same results unfortunately. Good to know though, thank you

I just got Falcon 3 Gold running in DOSBox the other day

On the wikidevi ru site it lists the chip I'm interested in, the Realtek RTL8852CE. What am I looking for in the tables that indicate it works with a said kernel?

I enjoy PC as I can emulate classic console, DOS, etc. games too. My OS of choice is Linux

Color accuracy is one reason to not have red shift on all the time

I realized after I commented that this was a Linux community, not Android. I'm glad you liked it though. Honestly I didn't read your whole post as I was tired
