So how much do I have to pay to boost the Fakespot rating of my product listing?

The research is interesting, but I don't appreciate the bullshit clickbait headline.

Wasn't OP complaining about the Windows desktop client? What has that to do with the server setup, Docker, etc? People can have the exact same issues on the client side even if the Nextcloud instance is professionally managed by a large organization.

Usually not. I was in the same situation and had to register a company in the EU. That way I pay my own taxes, insurance and pension contributions. If you do that, make sure to calculate the extra cost for insurance/taxes and raise your rates accordingly.

I concur. I've been in restaurant kitchens and most of them were more sanitary than the average home kitchen. They almost always have better ventilation, and they are cleaned regularly.

Because there are so many easier, safer, less awkward ways to check if someone likes me back or not. And if it turns out they do, I don't need to confess anything, I just set up dates, or do nice things for them and see where that takes us.

The "could" in the headline is extremely speculative. It says in the article they managed to power a few LED lights using a small slice of electrified cement.

It's more difficult in Europe. For example, when South Park: Post Covid released on Paramount+ in the US, there was no legal way to steam it in Germany or Austria AFAIR. And these are not exactly third-world countries.

I've been a game programmer for >10 years and I would be fucking miserable if I spent most of my free time with video games as well. Isn't that what we call work/life balance? And from my experience, most game devs either stop being "gamers" at a certain point, or they burn out and quit the video game industry.

That being said, almost everyone I know from gamedev is really excited about video games, and they have a ton of experience, even if they are not playing games in their free time anymore. It could be because I've only worked for indie projects and small publishers.

I can print at my workplace, and there is a library 5 minutes walking distance from my apartment. These huge commercial printing machines are so much better than anything you can buy for your home, and I don't have to maintain them. I'm very grateful I don't have to own a printer.

The Witness

Except if you need banking apps etc which will refuse working when they detect a customized OS.

IMO the age gap doesn't matter as long as both parties get what they want out of the relationship. I would give it a chance, but try to find out if your relationship goals match up. I'm currently in a relationship with a bigger age difference than that and so far we are doing pretty good.

I've used both self-hosted Nextcloud, and an instance set up by my school. I have the client on two different Windows machines, and I can confirm the update either tries to kill explorer.exe, which doesn't work half of the time, or forces a restart, so you're not alone with this issue! I also hate the client UI and how it displays conflicted files when multiple people are accessing the same folder. The whole file sync thing feels like a poor attempt to copy Dropbox. My school discontinued Nextcloud support last year because hosting/maintenance took too many resources, they switched to Microsoft i.e. OneDrive and it works much better.

Good for you I guess but good luck with commercial software development when your whole toolchain is Windows only. Same for video games, and Proton only works properly if you have a new GPU which supports all the Vulkan features.

You mean it's locked to a certain carrier? Sometimes you find unlock codes online, it depends on the model. Other times you have to buy the unlock code from the carrier and it's usually not worth it because you can get an unlocked Nokia keypad phone for less. I bought one of those for like 20 Euros at a pawn shop and it's still working with a prepaid SIM card from the supermarket.

From the article:

When you have enough storage that you never have to delete anything, you can keep an infinite record of your life. Packages, receipts, itineraries of past trips, messages from loved ones, photos, appointments, documents — you can just label them, archive them, and search for them later.

I don't want Google to have that information for free, to analyze/monetize/sell to 3rd parties. That's one of the reasons why I quit GMail. It was difficult too because I was registered to literally 100s of websites with that address.

In my experience it goes well with eggs too!

What you want is a "public display".

change.org doesn't like my mail address for some reason, and they tried trick me into subscribing to their newsletter :/

I've watched like 10 minutes and I hate it. Peter Singer is a very controversial figure as it is, on top of that the guy in the video comes off as super condescending to me and I can't stand watching him for longer. Me personally, I don't think it's "immoral" to not give money to charity. And terms like immoral or evil are usually defined by the society you live in and not some random philosopher. And I bet there are good reasons his radical ideas in "Famine, Affluence, and Morality" did not get embedded in our society yet.

I think this is a pretty good pitch for a twitch stream, you just need a way to record live footage of the poor person in the coffin.

For me, porn is not really worth it because I get addicted easily. Some people might be able to use it in a healthy way but Idk.

I use a folder structure in Nextcloud where each "album" folder starts with YYYY-MM-DD so I can sort them alphabetically. I delete the photos from my phone when I copy them to the Nextcloud folder. I can always look them up using the app. This is some manual work, but it has worked very well for long-term archival and it will still be organized and searchable on other platforms as long as they support files and folders.

three-part series about the history of racism

That sounds interesting, but I couldn't find it. Do you have a link, or a title?

I can reommend "Encounters at the End of the World" by Werner Herzog, it's about researchers in Antarctica and what motivates them to be there. So many interesting people, and it gets a bit philosophical.

Super Mario Land on the Nintendo Gameboy, and Lemmings on PC/DOS.

Definitely watch that one if you are into food or cooking, it's a classic!

I cook dried beans a lot and have to say the canned beans are different. Dried beans often split during soaking and the shells are harder. I think for canning they cook the fresh beans directly. About the pressure cooker, I've done this too but found that at least for me the beans are more easily digestible when you cook them slowly and for a longer period of time.

What? I'm never sure about anything these days. I just feel "I've always wanted to try this restaurant, would you be interested" is better than "I have to confess something ... I'm totally attracted to you" That being said I'm in a committed relationship right now and it started with just spending time together naturally.

But this post did turn me onto his ideas and found an interview with him on a podcast last night that was really good.

I played around with Perl when I was still in school, almost 20 years ago. Even then it was pretty legacy. I remember fixing a bug in a Perl script during an internship, because I was literally the only person in the whole department who could understand Perl code. I suppose it was used for sysadmin and web scripting but has since been replaced by PHP, Javascript and Python. I wouldn't bet any money on Perl being relevant in the future.

What's cool about the Fediverse, as long as the censors miss one instance that federates with the blocked ones, the content is still accessible. Slightly OT, but some Mastodon instances are blocked as well, e.g. I could not access mastodon.gamedev.place without VPN when I was in China two months ago.

For me it helps to plan ahead and assign tasks to the upcoming days/weeks. It shows me that not everything needs to be done at once, and clears my mind when I'm overwhelmed with too many things on my todo list.

Taekwondo. Cooking. Creative projects. I've also done therapy on and off, 1-on-1 conversational therapy as well as Psychodrama in a group therapy setting. Therapy is nice but I wouldn't say it is the thing that helped the most.

I don't see how the gameplay helps with the programming tasks, and I don't see how the programming tasks enhance the gameplay. Let's assume the game is already finished, I think the game part would be improved by replacing the programming part with a simpler, more rewarding mechanic. And the programming part could be improved by getting rid of the gameplay, as it would remove distractions. Pulling off educational games that people actually want to play is notoriously hard because of conflicting goals. IMO you should aim for a more integrated experience with in-game "coding" and direct feedback.

Any of the Papa's games from Flipline Studios. They cost a few dollars each, very casual singleplayer without any ads or IAP prompts.

I mean yes, see https://servo.org/ It has to be seen if it's really going to be a usable browser engine, and if it will have less security issues.

Dinner in America (2020) I liked a lot

No applesauce? What about deep-fried battered bananas at the Chinese buffet?
