The thought that people would unitedly leave Reddit was delusional.

I expected that only a small portion of people would really leave. I think there will be another small wave of leaving people when the 3rd party apps stop working.

But reality is: most humans don't like change, most humans like convenience. Forums like this are made by a minority, who share knowledge and time and take time to help others out. The vast rest of members is lurking and meme posting.

But I expect the majority to stay, at least now. Probably this blackout helped developing new forums though and maybe Reddit's popularity will slowly fade, we will see.

This is just sickening! I'm not sure if I want to vomit or rage.

No, nothing has "infested" Lemmy. It's just that many people understand, that rails are much more efficient than roads and that individual traffic on large scale has no future. At least if you want our future to be survivable.

I'm not from here, but I like k-beans.

(I don't wanna be offensive)

Oh yeah, this is definitely hot! Shoot me up there into the endless fediverse! It's time to discover all those niche galaxies riding a nice vessel!

I have played this and it felt just like the original. However, if I recall correctly, one needs to own the original install file of RCT2 to install OpenRCT2.

And the melody is based on a Soviet march song. (Link leads to YouTube song)

I'm not op, but just spend an hour on wiki again.

For me it usually just happens randomly. Today it was because watching news which included the start of the last Ariane 5. I was mainly interested, how much "fuel" (propellant) is used and the relation between launch weight and payload weight. I quickly got distracted by rocket engines and read here and there.

Then I am currently reading a book about WW2 u boats, so I've read the Wikipedia regarding that specific type of U-boat, the torpedos, the torpedo calculation computer, the lives of several commanders, ...

Recently my kid played with clay, so I got to read a little about the process of firing clay, basically wanting to know if I can diy it.

Normally the things I want to know more about just fly in by themselves.

Look up "bureau 39". They have installed a nice cash flow institute, that goes around the sanctions.

No worries, just wait for the ice to melt and the gulf stream to stop flowing. It'll cool down in no time! Maybe a disrupted polar vortex will then change from Siberian winters to Sahara heat summers and back every few weeks. While groundwater might be just as scarce as in the desert.

Anyway, don't touch the economy or do you wanna end up in jail like other climate terrorists?

(Obviously sarcasm)

Edit: Regarding the "positive note":

But, in one positive sign for the future, the report noted that wind and solar power generated 22.3 percent of European Union electricity in 2022, overtaking fossil gas (20 percent) for the first time.

Keep in mind that electricity is only responsible for a part of emissions. Even with 100 % green electricity one would be far from reaching net zero. Other big emitters are industry, transport and heating.

A VPN is not necessary for torrent usage.

But if you live in a country that enforces copy right etc online, it's highly recommended, as a VPN will make it almost impossible to track you down.

A VPN is like a costume. You don't need to wear one to do something illegal, but wearing one will make it much harder for authorities to identify you.

I found the game controller thing strange at the beginning, too. But then I heard that the Us Navy is using them, too. Although not for steering but for their periscopes.

What I find really dumb is that the crew is bolted in from outside and there is no mechanism to open the vessel from the inside.

Not that it matters much when you're drifting on the open ocean.

And not painting the thing yellow or orange or something that pops, especially when it's not connected to a ship via cables and when the crew can't open the hatch themselves.

What I found kind of amusing is that people pay a quarter million and then have to take turns looking out a small window.
