I saw the drama unfold when I was browsing All. My 2 cents:

  • In terms of the content in question, the lemmynsfw admin was right. I believe the community they were talking about was c/adorableporn, which AFAIK is just naked women acting cute, not acting or implying they are underage. The blahaj admin seemed to have misunderstood the premise of the community.

  • On the other hand, the lemmynsfw admin didn't really explain it properly and some of the words they used didn't exactly help their justification. At one point the admin said they do not discriminate against a poster's gender, looks, age, etc. and used words akin to saying they do not discriminate against people who are "too young". Obviously that didn't come across well in the conversation with the blahaj admin. The community's rules also had some questionable wording ("child-like" is the term I believe they used), which the mods changed when it was pointed out. So all these things didn't really help their defense.

  • At the end of the day, it's the blahaj admin's lemmy instance, so they can do whatever they want and defederate if they wish. It's up to the users on the instance to decide if it was justifiable and if they are ok with losing access to the entire lemmynsfw instance because of a misunderstanding.

EDIT for transparency purposes: As someone mentioned in the replies, I missed the word "adult" in recalling the statement that mentioned "too young", so the admin did word it correctly. I stand corrected.

This was more than a decade ago. Someone from HR mistakenly emailed a spreadsheet of all employees’ salaries to a bunch of people who aren’t authorized to see it. As part of my job, my team was tasked to track down all traces of the file on email and company workstations and remove it. Naturally I was able to see the file because of my task. I saw how low my pay was compared to my colleagues and how absurd it jumps up in just a couple of levels in rank. I and a lot of employees quit shortly after.

Putting Brave and Firefox next to each other doesn't sit right with me. I'd say Brave is the tech normie's "secure" browser. Then you can put Librewolf next to Firefox.

How are these companies able to operate in broad daylight in the EU of all places? I mean the name itself is saying out loud what they do.

Then they bring up some common criticisms of WFH, which I’ve seen and refuted since I started working from home 2009: People can’t communicate, working in groups is harder, and people can’t control themselves. Yawn.

Exactly. I work for a global company, so the way I communicate with the people I work with everyday is via zoom. What's the point of commuting to an office just to get on zoom anyway to talk to people?

Sugar, especially in the US where it's literally added into everything. What's worse is the alternative (substitutes like aspartame) might also be a candidate and we just don't know it yet because enough time hasn't passed to study the long term effects. I try to take stevia as much as possible because it's more "natural", but only a few sugar-free products use it over aspartame. I read recently the WHO still considers aspartame as a carcinogen, but only in excessive amounts, like several glasses of soda a day.

Oh cool we have a TLDR bot on lemmy too! Good bot.

I was typing from memory. Now that you pasted the actual quote, I realize the word "adult" was there; so not intentional and I stand corrected. In any case, my point still stands that I think the conversation between the admins could've gone better. Maybe the lemmynsfw admin could've explained it another way; on the other hand, the blahaj admin seemed to just be looking for a reason to finally defederate and seemed like they already decided before the conversation even started.

Memes in a way also brought back fascism. Remember when T_D (and some parts of 4chan) started out with Trump for president as a joke?

This, and reading comprehension.

These are the same people who would cut their noses off to spite their own face, so not surprising.

Giuliani doesn’t elaborate on other instances when the Red Sea was parted.

I don't know why but this was so funny reading it.

It’s a bot from kbin that started posting yesterday. Some lemmy instances temporarily blocked the community it was coming from until the kbin admins fix it.

Most hardworking CEO /s. CEO of multiple companies but has all the time in the world to shitpost on twitter all day.

I hope Apple and Google remove all references to the twitter name on their app stores so nothing comes up when people search for it.

It’s the people who make work their personality and them circlejerking each other. Don’t get me wrong, there are experts in my field who post valuable stuff on there, but it’s about topics in our field, not about working itself.

I discovered this a couple of days ago: https://github.com/CMahaff/lasim. It just transfers your subscriptions to your new account in another instance. I don't really mind not being able to transfer comments for now, but this has been very very helpful when I moved my subscriptions from one of my lemmy.world accounts to another instance because of the recent downtimes.

I’d think someone who sharts often enough in their sleep to be worried should be worried regardless if they’re naked or not.

Saw him in person at Defcon years ago. He was very personable and was happy to talk to anyone. RIP

They didn’t say it was good, just that it’s what works; that’s why it’s everywhere.

You used to be able to see nsfw on r/all. They only removed it recently when they started their plan of going public.

I release independently and I earned a whopping $43 for 50k+ streams (so far). Sure, 50k isn't much compared to mainstream artists, but $43 isn't much either.

This guy's probably been infected with covid so many times his brain is literally just fog, as in brain fog.

There are tons of people (legally) working and paying taxes in the US and aren't citizens. I get what you mean, but...

It's the first step of installation, making a bootable usb/CD. Most non-technical people can't be arsed to create a bootable drive, then go into the bios boot settings to run it. I haven't used Windows in a long time so I don't know how it's installed these days, but the fact that it comes installed out-of-the-box when people buy a computer lets them skip the first and biggest step to running linux, which is getting it installed in the first place.

Distros have come a long way that a Windows user trying Linux Mint can hit the ground running. It's no longer about the learning curve for USING linux, it's INSTALLING linux that's the problem.

I use the old.reddit extension on firefox to force it. I haven’t been on there for a while now so not sure if it still works.

The only thing with kbin is the lack of a mobile app. A lot of newer reddit users don’t even know there’s a website. It might be hard to convince those users to switch to kbin if it doesn’t have a mobile app.

I did. I added a note but didn't want to edit what I originally said so readers have context on what I quoted wrong.

All the fuss and arguments between people who want to promote lemmy and the people who refuse to genereate more traffic for reddit and I can't even see the join-lemmy art with the entire thing zoomed out.

Another tip is to wipe down your armpits with anti bacterial wet wipes once every few weeks. It kills the bacteria on your skin and resets the biome. You'll notice you won't stink for a couple of days afterwards even without using deodorant. And once it comes back, it isn't as bad or it smells a different way that your deodorant will be more effective.

I dunno, she's done a lot of stuff already that would warrant charges but nothing ever comes of it. Of course I'm hoping it sticks this time, but you know how the system works.

Non-unionized I believe, unlike UPS. That's why I dread it when I order something and see it was sent via FedEx Ground. That's specifically the worst.

Unfortunately there are a ton of people with less than half a brain who still believe him anyway.

Yup, that behavior is notorious with financial institutions. Using old and archaic programming languages and systems that they are too afraid to touch because they don't know how to rebuild it if it crashes. What I do is use passphrases for cases like that, so I can easily type them myself as a last resort. I just check my password manager quickly and then manually enter the password.

They were/are. They’re just making it official now.

I know we'll probably never know, but I always wonder how the singularity came to be. Some will say it was a previous universe that reverted back and has been infinitely doing so, but how did it start??
