No. You cannot target areas to lean out. This also holds for exercise: doing sit-ups will not burn the fat off your abs. The fat will also not necessarily come off evenly. Sometimes it does, sometimes the saddlebags stay until the bitter end even when your ribs are clearly visible. Genetics does play a role, but it can be dealt with.

(I'm a trainer and physiologist and helping people to lose fat is something I do.)

I would go along with it and hang out and don't expect anything more. At worst, you have a fun new friend whom you like to hang out with --that's a win! Since she has no problems making the first move, if she wants this to be more, she'll let you know. Just have fun with your new friend!

Some of it might be age. I didn't realize until recently what I wanted. Got a new co worker who's only a couple years older than me (I'm 46) and after a few days of working with her, I told her she's ruining my other friendships because I've realized how boring many of my friends are. She's just very easy to talk to and we can cover tons of subjects. We always have something to talk about.

I don't think you can expect someone in their 20s to really know enough about enough things to really be euradite about much. They also don't have as much experience talking with people to be remarkably eloquent. That's not to say that everyone younger than me isn't worth talking to, but maybe you're scouting in the farm league and don't know it. Keep talking to everyone though: one day you'll find someone you hope never stops talking to you.

I'm an athlete and a biomechanics student who studies this sort of thing. Technically, if you do the physics, yes, pavement is harder than dirt. Will your body actually notice that difference given the forces that you experience from an easy run in modern shoes? Not likely. For a few hours a day, day in and day out over decades, then yes you will. But if you run a few miles once or twice a week, no, you probably won't see a huge difference. (And most trails frequented by runners are packed dirt that is not much softer than pavement. Getting onto shift and squishy loam tails isn't feasible for everyone.)

As a trainer, I see and help people with this a lot. First thing is you need to find out what's causing it: is it stress (stress causes certain muscles to tense that pull your head forward), too much computer (or anything that puts your hands in the same position with a stooped neck, like reading, typing, sewing, driving, phones, etc etc), general slouching, low muscle tone, bad breathing mechanics, scoliosis or some other osteo pathology, or some other condition? Once you know that cause, you can start working on eliminating it. As you lessen the cause, you can strengthen the muscles that counteract what's pulling you into kyphosis. Exercises that do this include face pulls, rear delt flys, rows, pullups and quadruped arm swings. There are others, and you will need to look at your breathing mechanics as well. You're probably also going to need to stretch your pecs and shoulders and neck. To make sure you're getting everything lined up, you would do best to find an experienced and knowledgeable trainer and/or physical therapist. Your basic meathead might not be as concerned or educated in straightening you out. Also be ready to commit to this for at least a year. Progress with ligaments takes 6-18 months, so don't expect results in a week. You could see a chiropractor or a rolfer, but there are so many quacks out there that I couldn't recommend it. One visit to a chiro could fix certain joints if you can't get your head all the way back, but more than 1 is likely unnecessary. Find some trusted professionals with actual schooling and they should be able to help you out. Good luck!

Monorail!

Going to home depot at 9p to get one more of a simple washer or nail that you could have gotten on any of the 3 previous trips that day to finish fixing whatever broke in the middle of the night is what I call the adult walk of shame

I honestly cannot tell if anyone is flirting with me or not. I also cannot imagine that anyone would flirt with me in the first place, but if anyone did, I still wouldn't know. The only flirting I knew was when my wife called me up and lectured me for not asking her out. Apparently, she had been flirting with me and I didn't know. I am not bright.

I still feel bad for the 1 kid in jr high whose parents refused to let him do the sex ed section. 13yos are assholes enough, they didn't really need something else to use to make fun of him for.

Plus, if you buy directly from the manufacturer, you know you're getting a legit product with a good warranty. Some brands also have stores that double as service centers. If I order Nikes and they don't fit, I can return them to the local Nike store. Many offer free shipping just like Amazon, easy returns, better color choices and no creepy tracking or crazy knockoffs.

When I have my MacBook connected to an external monitor through USB adapters, it does drain a little faster. I haven't tested if my HDMI monitor connected directly does as well, but I'm sure it would. Any external monitor should require some extra GPU resources which means more energy which means your battery should drain faster. How much faster depends on lots of things.

That's my cupboard

When I realized I could say "I've been doing this for 20 years".

Did the same thing years ago. It was huge and black and blue. X-rays showed that I only strained it (no actual tears or tissue damage), but I could almost walk on it. It hurt, but I have a different tolerance for pain. I got a neoprene ankle brace with a splint in it and wore that for about 2 months afterwards. It was about 4 months before I was running again.

Now, having said all that, go see a doctor. You may have damaged it differently. There are a lot of bones and tendons in your foot and they all need to work properly for you to walk, so get it checked out. You might be out a few hundred dollars, but if you can't walk in 40 years, you'll probably wish you'd done it. Even if it's bad, there's a good chance you'll be just wearing the same neoprene brace this summer.

What?

Applause to you for this.

I was thinking of working on a PhD, but enough people with a PhD have told me not to that I've decided maybe I should listen to the smart people and not do it. Best wishes to you, you tortured soul!

This is what I do when I know the other person will insist on buying (like they always do). Had a friend who always bought lunch for years before I finally got there first.

In other situations, the classy thing is to say "please allow me to get this; I insist. You can get the next one."

My dad is a gun collector, so I was around them my entire life, but gun safety was also part of my entire life. We understood what they were and what they could do. So if my friends ever said "can we see your dad's guns?" It was always "no."

I regret that I have only 1 upvote to give

Also: if it's very swollen, that pressure stabilizes the injury and so it won't hurt as much because things can't move around. This is not a good sign.

I went back to school. You can find tons of online courses in just about any subject, and some will count for real college credit if you ever want to turn it into a degree. Many are free, but some will cost you and most are worth it. A way to make your addiction productive.

Seconded

So, the rectum (poops last stop before freedom) is actually deep inside your pelvis as your colon makes the turn from the left side to the center, so your massage isn't moving the poop out like squeezing a toothpaste tube. However, it lies close to some internal muscles like the iliacus which can put pressure on it if they're stiff or inflamed (not unheard of in western society), and massaging them can get them to relax and relieve the pressure.

You're certainly not hurting anything with this, and since you've been doing it for so long, you may have developed a psychosomatic connection that might actually help your bowels do their work. It's weird, but go right ahead massaging the shit out of yourself because it might help in some way.

We eat generic all the time, but I will say that frosted flakes and honey nut Cheerios do taste a bit better with the name brand. Luckily, they're really cheap a couple times a year and I'll buy a couple boxes then that last me pretty much until they're on mega sale again

I have lots because Colorado falls are roller coasters with temp.

On "warm" 50⁰ days, I'm usually do a base layer of a Nike pro lycra shirt and shorts, then typical jersey and shorts with arm and knee warmers.

On cooler days, same bases, but with a warmer jersey and maybe fleece knickers or tights. The fleece cycling gear is always smaller than the summer gear and stretches less as well, so I find it very uncomfortable. Maybe lycra booties, ear warmer and comfy gloves (love the head gloves from Costco).

If I'm crazy and it's under 20⁰, then a very warm capo jacket over a long sleeve base layer and 2 layers of tights sandwiching my shorts (or a unique pair of pearl izumi wind proof tights), warm pearl gloves, warm hat and neoprene booties. If I'm lucky, I'll last an hour.

My in-laws told my wife that it was just the "music truck". She had no idea it sold ice cream until she was in high school.

Same: rarely from the people who really matter to me. It's almost always the cashier at the grocery store or the bike store. Nice people, but I don't know if they really care what the answer is, they're doing they're best to be nice.

Seems to me that Jeep Cherokee drivers think they own the road

I was there for at least 10 years. Not going back.

I thought I was there only one spring spring showing sorting sowing great avocado blessings to everyone! (Swipe typos left in for Emojis emojis emojis emphasis)

In your field, it might. But honestly, what makes the biggest difference is who you know and how well you fit in where you work.

I majored in film with a minor in photo, perfect track to be a cinematographer. Found out I didn't really like that industry, just loved making pretty images. I learned a lot of other skills but the most valuable one was how to relate to people and understand what they're saying when they're not actually saying what they want. I've since switched careers to something totally different, but I use so many things I learned in college unrelated to focusing cameras. You have learned a lot that's going to help you for the rest of your life. You might not know it for a long time, but you'll eventually find your way.

I can't remember the band or the song, but I remember the VH1 pop-up version where they told you tidbits during the video. The whole thing was 1 take (shot on film in those days) and included a part where they passed the camera through a car. The camera operator had to hand the camera off to someone, run around to the other side of the car and then take it back without it looking like that happened, and while everyone was singing in time. I was a film student at the time and in awe about how well it was done. So much so that I can still see that part, but I cannot remember the song.

Get a workout buddy. Can be a friend or spouse or a trainer, but someone who will make you show up because you know they're going to be there and you'll be a jackass if you bail on them. They'll also make you look forward to the time together, and help you not think about being tired or sore or sweaty or how many left you have, whatever. I'm a trainer and my most valuable skill is making my clients forget they're working out and that they hate working out. The less you hate what you're doing, the more likely you are to do it, so find something you don't mind, and then find someone you like to do it with. Start there.

If you want to get into gym life and weight training, find a good trainer. Date around and find someone you click with. The Internet is full of good and bad advice, but a real(that means certified) trainer will have mostly good advice. If you can't afford a trainer, then stick to the machines because it's harder to hurt yourself on those. Anything is better than nothing, but be sure to take your time because moving too fast causes injuries and injuries only waste time, set you back and possibly stop you for good. Learn to enjoy the process and the journey and this will become the lifestyle change people say it should be.

Good luck and be sure to have fun!

Agree: for most people, the beer gut is more pronounced because of the laxity of the front abs (also causing a hyper extended spine which causes back pain), it's not all just fat. So, proper training and strengthening of the abs will help pull those things back in line, but won't do much for burning off fat.

I wear tall sizes which makes finding shirts a pain. Old Navy has tall sizes and their t shirts are on sale for $6 a few times a year. And they're very soft and comfortable! I buy like 5 every couple of years.

Next level shirts are almost perfect

Not really helpful here, but I have only ever used Mac's and have never used an iPhone and I have 0 problems. If you have a Mac or an iPad, you should be able to access everything that's Apple that use you use on your phone. I can easily put items in my Google calendar from my Mac or my Pixel. I can access files on my Google drive on all devices just the same. The Apple weather widget is less accurate than the Google One which is less accurate than just about every 3rd party app. I use Firefox which syncs between all devices. Pretty much everyone I know has an iPhone and not a single person complains about my green texts. I read the other comments about group chats, and I'm in those too and no one complains. Either my friends don't use any of these features, or it's gotten better. I felt that Android phones just work more easily than iOS (which is weird because I feel that Mac's work more easily than Windows, and this is kind of the same argument). You are going to run into a lot of issues, but maybe they really won't be all that bad in the long run. You probably won't get your texts to port over, but you can start new threads and in a couple of months you might not notice. Hopefully it goes well!

In the US, most of the food is made in the same factories because they're regional, then the name brands might get to pick the freshest batch, but often it's the exact same stuff just in different boxes.
