Boxing in real life is not like boxing in movies. No fighter can go 12 rounds just throwing hands all the time. The clinch is used often for strategic purposes, to stop the momentum or interrupt the rhythm of the other fighter. It also is used to get some kind of rest when one is getting pummelled and can't find a way out.

Sometimes it's abused of course. But it is very much a part of the sport.

I agree, it's a tiny step in the right direction, but definitely too little too late.

I do the same! And you know, I think this is a hobby by itself. It's also very useful when talking with strangers if they tell you they practice one of the hobbies you've binged on. You can ask them more pointed, interesting questions and it makes for great conversations!

That's a big one. Also lack of hobbies or passions.

You look great! I've interviewed my fair share of help desk people, some with rumpled clothes or worst, smelly clothes. Keep them clean and not wrinkled and you'll be fine. Great advice all around in the other comments. And take note of the belt one especially, it has to be clasped above the zipper. You got this!

I live in Canada. I never cease to be flabbergasted by laws in the US. It's like living next to a time warp.

What goes through the mind of people like this? Don't they realize they are being dicks? Regardless of the weather the thought of using an umbrella in a crowd would never even cross my mind, even less so in a seated venue, wtf?

That's fucking terrifying!

You sound like you didn't read the article. This not about seeing ads or not, it's about large corporations allowing and making profits off advertising criminal activities.

I didn't miss the point, the point is not about seeing ads or not. Expand your thought process a bit.

Where I live (Montréal, Canada) plastic bags are banned everywhere. You either bring your own or buy a reusable at the cash. Some places (like grocery stores) also sell paper bags. You get used to it. If you have a car you leave a bunch of reusables in the trunk, if you don't you just have to remember to bring one with you. The also sell some super thin ones you can carry in your pockets that are sturdy and large enough for a small run at the grocery store.

I agree that the landlord is a shitstain, but that tenant is not the best at decision making either. I can understand spending a couple of hundreds if it makes your life better, but she basically handed over a 12k check to that landlord. I can't see any good reason to do this.

Considering the state the world is in, I'm at a point where news like this leave me totally indifferent. I used to feel concerned about privacy and freedom of choice when it comes to consumer goods but right now, with this company? I couldn't give less of a shit.

If you are rich enough to buy one of these abominations, you are rich enough to put pressure on the manufacturer to tell them you are not ok with this (if in fact that is the case).

Tangentially related but I rewatched Face/Off last night and realised he has a very short role, extremely foreshadowing.

That's more like part-time honestly, doesn't make any sense. But your hours are intense. I did that 50/60 hours a week years ago, I'll never do that again. I'm at 35 now and considering asking for a 4 day 32 hours schedule next year. And I WFH full time. I'm done organizing my life around work.

Ran across the same problem recently. Ended up using Bing, of all things lol

SmartTube is amazing. The dev is super reactive, there are updates almost daily. I watch YT mostly on my TV, I'm really thankful it exists!

My first thought reading the question "blood in the streets". Coffee has been around for hundreds of years and is deeply cultural in many parts of the world. I don't see any reality where that could happen.

You should read the article.

That sounds very satisfying, wow! I swear to god, half the meetings I attend are just soooo unproductive. Talk about this project, where we were, where we are, where we are going. But it always ends up that I have to jog people's memory, ask why what was supposed to get done didn't and when it will be. Rinse and repeat. I love that approach, makes people accountable and saves everyone's time.

One thing that bugs me is people asking for/using tools that replicate the look and feel of Reddit instead of learning the ropes. I left Reddit, I don't want another one. I get it, familiarity is comforting, but when the user base is a fraction of the other platform, no UI or app will ever give you the same experience. I say move on, get out of your comfort zone and participate.

I can't believe anyone looking at this would think it's real, wtf

I wonder if it's a mobile thing because I have the same issue on my tablet (which I completely gave up using for Walmart) but never on my PC.

Weirdly I love honeydew as a flavor (like bubble tea) but prefer cantaloupe as a fruit (cantaloupe flavored things just sounds wrong).

It's different here (at Walmart at least), they leave all their reusable bags at the self checkout where you can just buy them. But there is a lot of staff and the area is like a bullpen, so there is only one exit and there are employees looking at the carts' contents.

As for the bags, for sure it's a contentious topic. And I agree with you. As I mentioned in another reply, I see a lot of the sturdier reusable bags for sale at thrift store, they have to roll them up and put them in a bin they have so many...

Works fine here, thanks, interesting read!

Great one. The ending is SO good.

The Dead Flag Blues. All of it. It went like this...

Oh I see. I'm sorry, you guys in medical really have it fucking hard. Hang in there, and best of luck!

A lot of great recommendations in the tread and I don't have much to add but for something a little different, here are my suggestions :

DayDream Gaming - Cool and/or relaxing walks through game worlds like Skyrim, Cyberpunk 2077, horseback riding in RDR, etc.

dulevoz - Cabview train rides full of cool details like the number of tunnels, elevation, engine types, etc. You don't need to be a train nerd, try it, it's absolutely fantastic and relaxing!

Virtual Railfan - Live cams at famous railroad crossings, just for the fun of watching trains go by or watch the scenery

StreamTime Live - live cams at various harbours in the US

M. B. Archives - Commentary tracks from various movies (the latest being The French Connection, rip William Friedkin)

Fuck, somehow I had forgotten about Mark Lanegan's passing.

Ah! Makes sense. Here we get snow by the meter. Even in the city on plowed sidewalks Doc's just don't cut it unfortunately.

I could listen to Max Miller tell stories for hours, love his upbeat tone and sly sense of humour.

Renting is basically the only way to have housing in certain parts of the world. In large cities too. Not everyone that rents is bad at decision making or on the verge of homelessness...

In this specific case, she was able to blow 12k in renos on a rental and has a Roche Bobois couch that's worth at least 10k in the setup she has (she mentions this on her twitter feed). To be fair, she also says she realizes she made a terrible mistake and is taking the criticism in stride, so good for her, lesson learned. All this to say, yes she acted stupidly, regardless of how shitty the landlord seem to be.

I agree with you that the housing system needs to change. That conversation has been going on forever. But the solution is not to have everyone strive to own a house.

I wear Doc's a lot but never in winter! They're just ice skates in disguise.

Great list, I follow a lot of the same channels! I'd add EmpLemon and Bright Sun Films if you don't already follow. Solar Sands is exceptionally good.

I agree. I have a drawer full and a bunch in my car. I see a lot of them for sale for a buck at thrift stores, it's kind of funny and sad.

Yes, and also for the compost. I used to store a few as well but they are so thin now, it's not worth it.

I do the same. I use FeedBro (a Firefox add-in) on the pc and Feeder on Android.

Or big wokeness
