It does. I will never use an instance without downvotes. Nobody liked it when youtube downvotes were hidden.

Does this mean we will see 512GB internal phone storage becoming mainstream for low end phones?

Thanks for only banning the communities and not the entire instance as a whole. That is a much healthier approach to deferation.

Gitea and Forgejo are the way to go. Especially Forgejo which is working on federation just like Lemmy but for Forgejo repos and instances.

I refuse to use services that demand you use their app.

Services only need a website for the most part, not only is this easier for development cost but it is simplier to create a mobile friendly website instead of creating an Android app, iOS app and a desktop app.

Tiktok is digitial media, the attention span is the issue, not the media format.

I know a few people who admitted to me without me even probing them that they cannot handle watching or listening to a video over 1 minute long.

I am not for censoring Tiktok, however I will never used it since its horrible on privacy and has "back doors" to a powerful and malicious government. And I like videos that are long with good discussion or information.

Never use a closed source keyboard app. It can read what you send for messages, websites you go to, search engine queries.

Sites and services outside the UK should not comply. If UK ISPs block sites outside the UK for not complying, so be it.

Newpipe has been good for years.

We need a open standard fully open source alternative.

True, I was referring to low end phones.

I think Apple marketing has a role in it. Their commercials and packaging gives the iPhone an elitist aura. Kinda like a calone, jewelry, fancy watches, fancy cars.

Even if firefox complies, I am sure a fork will be made that will disable the in-browser censorship. That is the good thing about FOSS.

Bummer, looks like a Google account feature and not an AOSP feature. Which means this will not be available for Degoogled devices.

Interesting way to look at it. I saw it as more reality TV bloat content.

Nope, but FOSS is ungovernable.

Eventually I can see discord discontinuing their web client to push you users into installing their spyware.

alternativeto.net

Use this site and look for the "Open source" tag and double check the source code is available on every piece of software you find.

Exchange your email with your fb friends and toss your fb account in the trash.

I also recommend forgejo. They are also working on adding a federation feature to forgejo just like Lemmy has!

What a slap to the tits to Youtube content creators. Essentially it is just "diveristy training" for Youtube creators.

Not yet, someone requested this feature and I would like it to to block the NSFW porn instances. I do have NSFW enabled but I still see pictures of SFW girls in my feed from NSFW instances and I would like to just block that stuff from those adult only instances.

I not for lemmy.world blocking or deferating instances in general. But this feature gives the user the choice to block instances while others can allow content from instsnces to flow into their feed if they wish.

I dont see any issue with the user choosing weather upvotes or downvotes are visible or not. Not in favor of moderators or admins having a choice on this matter.

I am on it right now.

However they have had some issues lately which is detailed in this post

Even if lemmy goes mainstream. I am sure there will be several instances that only federate with each other and not be federated with the rest of the lemmyverse, keeping the vibe lemmy has now and the early reddit vibe. Just have to find these instances and join them.

I like Send. It is FOSS and anyone can send host an instance.

Personally antivirus is more of a scam these days. If your using Linux, Android, MacOS or iOS your fine. Maybe you can benefit a little bit with one on Windows.

Just have good security practice. Do not go to sketchy sites, do not download sketchy files and especially do not install and run sketchy things. And do not weaken the built in security of your system like disabling the firewall for example.

In the 1990s, 2000s and early 2010s there was a case for antivirus but computers have come a long way since then.

Besides anti virus programs are mostly closed source and have full access to your device. Allowing them to scan your files and many of these products probabily work with three letter intellegence agencies all across the world to collect data from consumers of these anti virus products.

There has been some rumors that anti virus companies have created malware and released it to the world to drive up sales and demand for their products.

Youtube-dl has been getting nothing but chased down the past year or so now.

Sadly this is a good oppertunity to spread alternative platforms like Lemmy and Nostr for Canadians to get good news in a crisis.

How is blendOS based?

And personally most distros will do since linux is secure over all. I like Linux Mint personally and is good for programming and generic use.

I wonder if a human back then used the reflection from water at a lake or pond to see what their asshole looked like.

I always used Xubuntu or Linux Mint Xfce. Both have access to the Ubuntu package repository and are easy to use and install.

There is quite a bit of truth to this.

If your going to run a free speech instance, I advise running the server in the US and using a server provider that is free speech friendly. It will also not hurt to use a domain registrar that is pro free speech. By running the server in the US, you got first amendment protection

I think Joplin is the best too, but I wish they will rewrite their app using Tauri or flutter for better performance and native app integration. Feature wise it is the best one that is FOSS.

Dont forget to install candy crush when it prompts you to do so.

Looks like an alternative to Send

It has an awful UI layout.
