It's digg all over again, for those of us pioneers old enough to remember our first migration.

By and large I don't feel the need to go back to reddit, as I can get the news and other things either here or in different places. There are a few very specific subs that I'll probably visit from time to time on desktop, but I'll never use that garbage reddit app.

Took a peek and it doesn't look like there's any recent posts on /r/gifs ? Like, sort by new and everything other that 5 reddit is killing itself posts is at least 19 days old. What's up with that?

Same here. Removed 1700 comments today. Waiting to see what happens there.

Yep, steamdeck here, and once it's fully set up it's a great machine for emulation. I honestly don't notice that it's too heavy. Just re-adjust how you're sitting or laying down or whatever I guess? Maybe put a pillow on your lap to give your arms some support? Not sure what the answer is there, but steamdeck is a great route to go.

Totally correct. It'll take a while, but the quality will absolutely drop. And even though 3rd party apps represent a small percentage of Reddit users, I'd bet that people who are engaged and participate enough to get a third party app for their phone (many of which required payment to block ads) are the same people providing a lot of the quality content that makes Reddit successful. When the people who produce the good content leave, then it's only a matter of time before everyone else follows.

Totally understand this. I'm working on setting up my steam deck, and decided to go the Windows only route with it. Well, the main place for all things windows on the steamdeck is reddit. Youtube's search means it's a needle in a haystack for specific questions I have, since the overwhelming majority of people using the steamdeck are using SteamOS on it. It's really put me at a loss when it comes to getting answers, until that sub comes back up. I just hope that data can be migrated somewhere else, since I don't want to support reddit but I DO want to engage heavily with that community.

Be sure to remove as much as you can and heavily encourage heavy contributors to delete their comment history. They have no value without our data.
