My mom bought a cheap HP printer/scanner several years ago and subscribed to their "instant ink" subscription which was actually surprisingly cheap (like $3/mo) but once the printer stopped reliably connecting to the internet and nobody could print wirelessly anymore with it, she canceled the subscription and HP DISABLED ALL OF THE INK CARTRIDGES. The cartridges themselves have wifi connections so HP can automatically send you new ink when they get low. What a scam.

I've seen a few studies on this, I'd have to dig up some sources but socio/psychopaths do tend to seek power... So CEO rates of socio/psychopathy are significantly higher.

Firefox ftw.

I've actually been using Waterfox lately though because for some reason there's a video codec issue on Firefox that makes YouTube videos not play correctly.

I think this will be a major issue with AI. Just because it was trained on a huge wealth of knowledge doesn't mean that it was trained on correct knowledge.

I got a second degree in computer science to try and get ahead and instead entered the market just in time for hundreds of thousands of layoffs so now I'm stuck making less than I did at my last job meanwhile inflation and rent have increased the cost of living by like 50%.

Edit: oh and suddenly WFH = evil according to every CEO because of their billions of dollars of real-estate investments

Personally, I miss out on a lot of group chats because all of my friends have iPhones.

They'll create a group chat, I won't get any messages, then suddenly I'm getting a call on Saturday saying "hey are you coming to the party?" or more often than not I don't get notified at all and end up hearing about all of the things I miss at a later time. It's annoying, but I really hate iOS so I deal with it.

I've got an iMessage server running on my NAS but it's not perfect, it requires that the iPhone user send the message to my iMessage account associated with my email, not with my phone number.

Fuck. I have been using them for backup for years, I currently have everything on my NAS but still like having important stuff in an offsite backup.

Anyone know a reasonably priced cloud storage provider that has integration (either 3rd or 1st party) with Unraid?

Edit: Dropbox just renewed my annual subscription last night at midnight 🙃

Double edit: I went into my Dropbox web portal and found that the setting was enabled by default for me. I'm in the US.

Firefox ftw

Article made it sound like only front wheel drive exists now and that only front wheel drive cars use CV joints lol.

I got a Google Gemini "text message" in Google messages today. I couldn't find a way to turn it off, so I just blocked and reported it as spam lol

Okay now do Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia, Blackrock, etc etc

Unfortunately he's stacked the courts in his favor so many times that it has mostly worked 😒

I disabled that shit immediately

I think this is one of the major reasons they're forcing RTO down our throats

God I hope he did lol

Once a hamper fills up, I do the laundry. Not super complicated lol

I'm gay so I have been literally looking at Canadian immigration

I'm also in Seattle and it's bad out here. I was looking at townhouses last year before the rates went up but couldn't get a mortgage because of a limited amount of work experience since getting my second degree during the pandemic. I was actually surprised that I could have afforded a decent townhouse in like Edmonds or Shoreline until the rates shot up - going from 3.5% to 7% adds something like $1000 a month in interest on a $400k mortgage. Then I realized I have never lived alone before and wasn't sure if buying a place was the best way to try that out lol. Average rent in Seattle right now though is like $2300-$2400 a month which is close to 50% of the take-home income of someone making $100,000 per year. It's insane.

We were soooo close... Then big real-estate started losing value so they had to justify the offices somehow.

Idk plumbers, electricians, contractors, etc make a lot around here. I'm sure they usually have business overhead that factors into their hourly rates (like $100+ an hour here in Seattle). Or if they work independently, they'd still need to pay taxes, insurance, health insurance, licensing, etc., but assuming they make $60/hr after all that, that's pretty good.

Not the new ones. They're all touch screen and it's soooo slow to start up and do anything, including HVAC and heated seats. My friend's new Outback has it and it's not good.

It's an anatomical diagram of an ear with ants crawling into it lol

My biggest concern with generative AI is all of the CEOs that will eagerly seize the opportunity (and some already have) to fire staff and offload their work onto their remaining employees so they can use ChatGPT to make up for lost productivity. Easy way for them to further line their pockets without increasing pay for anyone else, further dividing the worker/CEO wage disparity and class divide.

Rental prices are sickeningly high right now it's insane. I was excited to see that lawsuit against that rental price fixing company RealPage but it doesn't seem to have gone anywhere, frustratingly. If all the rental agencies are using the same automated tool to set their rental prices obviously it's going to artifically inflate them all.

I'm in Seattle, most of my friends have roommates or moved back in with their parents (which I did in 2020 when I lost my last job). I am making slightly more than my last job now with a second degree but after inflation I'm making quite a bit less and rent has gone up significantly since then. So I still can't afford my own place.

Currently Unraid, haven't tried anything else lol

I saw this the other day and I'm like well fuck might as well go to trade school before it gets saturated like what happened with tech in the last couple years.

Just don't confuse them for ones you use to cook lol

Deep Cock Galactic 👌

Games, toons, chawacters

I feel that for sure haha, it's so much more enjoyable for me and honestly I think it makes people better drivers.

I found it under "Third-party AI" on the web portal settings. It was enabled for me, I'm in the US.

Sounds wonderful tbh

Zitter

Both my parents and a handful of friends have it right now

I've found oat milk (specifically Oatly) to cook fairly well. I've made bechamel based sauces, puddings, custards, etc. with it plenty of times and always had good results.

I used to work in aerospace and we had a few government customers. Every single government part was sold to a contractor who then flipped it to the government for like 10x what they paid for it.

It was real annoying when they needed parts for old aircraft with deprecated specifications/components that were no longer available because the contractors had no engineering staff so we couldn't ask them for clarification on which parts/specs to use beyond standard military supercessions which sometimes had no suitable replacements.
