I use option 1 with Syncthing for a distributed cloud solution

Read it, didn't give information to dampen the initial outrage. Six months only for a dozen or so cases and not against doctors or journalist doesn't sound that convincing to me. A judge must grant permission also doesn't help imo as the act is still is a major privacy violation to all those who interact with the subject in any way.

Setup automatic security updates with unattended-upgrades. I don't know alot about your security expect for the fact that outdated applications are more vulnerable.

As far as I understand Markdown is a syntax standard used for that kind of note taking or article writing

Guess I'll never be more than a lurker then. Even though I feel more comfortable with posting or commenting here so it'll happen more than on reddit

It's amazing how often this program can be used to solve a problem someone has with their file sharing. And in my opinion it's an elegant solution and does it's job very well

With the SATA acronym it seems to have trouble resolving the AT, so I became curious. Here's what I've found:

"AT" was IBM's abbreviation for "Advanced Technology"; thus, many companies and organizations indicate SATA is an abbreviation of "Serial Advanced Technology Attachment". However, the ATA specifications simply use the name "AT Attachment", to avoid possible trademark issues with IBM.

I really don't like seeing these temperatures and I also don't like that governments have not educated the public effectively on what to do to limit climate change. It's a tragedy to see people making irrational and ineffective descisions out of fear.

I don't agree with you. Many individuals changing their behavior is what it takes for an economic shift in our society. By thinking that we don't have an impact we loose motivation to change our behavior. So if you say you are annoyed by big supermarkets filling our planet with waste that's fine, I agree. But this needs to lead to a change in behavior, first of yourself, then for those who notice you haven't died from eating mostly vegan products and buying from local farmers markets and then hopefully for most people in our society.

Companies produce as long as people consume their products. If commnsumers switch to sustainable products (quite different from products advertised as sustainable) companies will have to follow

So sometimes there is good news and we can smile a little

Those are rookie numbers, if we continue like they gonna get so much higher

Same here, I like the Fediverse, so I try to contribute to it. With reddit it was more of a convenience and mindless thing

Why would they block that? I understand that a company might not want the reverse to happen but this just seems counterproductive

The flood of AI generated anything is really annoying when looking for an actual human created source.

Individual action also works. Its pretty easy to get information about what you can do and show those less inclined that it's not hell to live on the other side. The IPCC has that part as well if anyone is looking for the impact their changes can have: https://news.sky.com/story/climate-change-what-does-the-ipcc-mean-by-choice-architecture-and-can-it-change-our-behaviour-12582739

No experience as i don't trust the concept. The Internet never forgets, no way they can change that

That would be absolutely terrible

I find it fascinating that AI development provoked the question of how our thoughts actually work and am curiously awaiting the results.

Depends on how much you pay for data. For my german mobile contract it is very nice to have content available offline. And the play in the background thing is very nice depending on the kind of video you wanna watch. I can see how those features aren't the new sliced bread but they have their use cases

It would not be the first time heat in southern Italy got this bad. I think that's a reason why people trust the prediction. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/aug/11/sicily-logs-488c-temperature-possibly-highest-ever-recorded-for-europe

Just because I use Lemmy doesn't mean I was able to convince anyone of my social circle to join (with lack of content as the primary reason). Building communities requires users and a lack of those is an issue with many FOSS projects.

Keep yourself occupied and do the best you can. Informed descisions of individuals can bring more change than governments. You might not stop the oil from being sold, but if there is less demand for it, profits go down and that has great effect on the rate at which oil is pumped out of the ground.

This depends on what you mean by mounting them. From what I understand the mount command functions to "temporarily" mount a drive that is not expected to be there at the next boot. Think of CD drives or USB sticks. fstab is a way of mounting drives persistently and should be used with drives that are permanently installed in the system.

The topic is likely more nuanced than that but working with this in mind did the trick for me.

Depending on who you ask it's the most important. Once people are educated they can make informed decisions themselves. Just do what you can and are willing to do and don't wait for the governing bodies to change their pace. The IPCC report actually contains solid Data on what individual behavior change is most effective, this article lists a few things https://news.sky.com/story/climate-change-what-does-the-ipcc-mean-by-choice-architecture-and-can-it-change-our-behaviour-12582739

Don't know if this is of any help but here is a good video. It's about a video game ai concept I've not heard of before: https://youtu.be/9gf2MT-IOsg

I think it's mostly about convenience. Most people don't care enough and have only learned how to install chrome (if it isn't preinstalled)

I use SyncThing with obsidian on Android, window and linux and can confirm. Setting it up is straight forward my only issue is that it doesn't merge files. If a file is edited on two devices that can't be synced (one is offline while the other one edits the file for example) it turns the older edit of the file into a copy and takes the newer version for both devices. Depending on your use case it could not be an issue for you at all though.

I felt that change. Everytime i used it the results in the suggestion box had nothing to do with what I was searching for.

I'm using connect for Lemmy and that seems to work really well.

If you were saving it. Actually you would be investing it so no need to actually save up 1 million. 30 years is on the optimistic side though. The more common problem seem to be low wages, as those leave nothing to be safed (for 30+ years) at the end of the month.

This update improved the game in so many ways. It feels awesome to drive through stormy nights and unlike many other driving simulations the risk of crashing feels great too. Everyone how wants to find out how much work goes into operating locomotives should try this.

They are unlikely to actually stop any individual from becoming vegan or at least making an effort to become one. The attitude that it is to öate and we can't do anything about the catastrophe is precisely the feeling they are hoping for so we continue to consume their products. You can however at any time just stop.

The choices of yourself influence the choices of those around you. And collectively we have much more impact on climate change than for example the private aviation industry. The following article contains a few ideas and their impact to start with. https://news.sky.com/story/climate-change-what-does-the-ipcc-mean-by-choice-architecture-and-can-it-change-our-behaviour-12582739

Well they were in a position to do something about that but held against keeping the reactors running, https://www.tagesschau.de/inland/akw-streit-105.html. If I remember correctly getting them into a normal running condition was unfeasible either way.

They are competing for attention of potential buyers. In terms of sales new authors are similar to these spammy nonsense books. Therefore when Amazon chooses a "new author to promote" chances are it's going to be a spammy one instead of more genuine work. I agree that amazon should react to this as it should hurt their brand from both an authors and readers point of view

I spent so much time trying to clean up map markets that I was not high level enough to deal with

Thanks for clearing up the confusion
