I take issue with both the authoritarian left and authoritarian right: being an apologist for Soviet Russia as well as being an apologist for the USA is not OK in my opinion.

I find it futile to take a position on which is worse because that just gives space to be an apologist for one that's "less bad". I see this happening in this thread right now.

Should I defederate from both lemmy.world and lemmy.ml? Of course not. In fact, I find both to be more tolerable and cooperative than reddit today.

Absolutely. In my experience I've felt more pressure to merge in closed source than open source since the bully is those above you in a hierarchy with business interests who are also paying your bills.

I like it! For those who do not have municipal compost bins, is it possible to compost leftovers indoors? Perhaps on a balcony (without attracting pests)?

Already halfway there, so I'm looking into composting options now since unfortunately they don't do pickup in my area. :)

It's a substitute for chemical fertilizers which would otherwise go to landfill. It also improves soil quality rather than producing dead "dirt" that is dependant on chemical fertilizers. Plus, no more transportation involved in disposing of the food scraps to landfill, producing and packaging fertilizers, etc.

You can use it for any kind of gardening really, including growing your own veggies and herbs.

Finally, it reduces food waste by recycling food scraps rather than sending them to landfill when they could be used to produce more food or replace more energy-intensive fertilizers.

To be fair, meat requires tens of thousands of pounds of plants used as feed over the lifetime of the animal (in this case, a cow), which also requires transporting the feed, pumping water to the crops for feed and for the animals to drink, etc. Unfortunately, there simply isn't enough land on earth for all animals to be free range.

Community guidelines in a readme would be a good start. Also, educating those opening new git issues since I often see entitled and vitriolic demands from non-devs who do not understand what FOSS is (although I understand that this isn't the only bully archetype).

One of the takeaways Imo is to consider bullies as potential security threats especially when they're pushing to merge code. And for both developers and non-developers alike, to try to foster a culture of respect and avoid entitlement in git issues. Call it out when you see it and don't dogpile.

That's a good question. To be honest with you, I've come across critiques of tankies on .ml as well as tankie nonsense. I've also come across some progressive discussion as well as USA apologism on .world.

So in my personal experience (may differ from others based on what communities we frequent) I haven't experienced so much tankie or American apologist content that I've felt the need to leave either community.

I agree with your sentiment that .world is left of reddit - as is Lemmy in general.

What I have been seeing is some users on .world coming across any tankies and wanting to defederate while seeing some amounts of pro-US imperialism on .world but ignoring it since (imo) we're desensitised to it especially coming from reddit.

I do not find that tankies define the communities I frequent on .ml any more than pro-US imperialism defines .world.

As anybody who has spent time working on a farm can attest, whole corn and soybean are some of the primary cattle feed. The majority of all soybean grown in North America is used as cattle feed and corn is a large market segment. The reality is that meat production uses far more land than plant-based alternatives, even adjusted for caloric output. You don't need to believe me as this is a well researched topic and you can find reputable sources for yourself.

You just shared an infographic which showed that animal feed accounts for 76% of global soy production vs only 20% for direct human food. The point we were discussing was that eating meat is a less efficient use of land which appears to be supported by what you shared.

Judging by the other comments and profile, it's clear that you're not trying to have a discussion in good faith and may be a troll. I'm not going to engage further.
