The narratives you mention in your last para are completely true, that's what annoys me, IF they had engaged in good faith with users. As it is, it's like a shopping centre that's been free to enter saying "right, it's now €100 to enter and any underwear shops are closed to you unless you wear our uniform."

Just completely crazy prices for a poor service. No shit that's unworkable. Just be honest and say you want to bring those users in-house, just fucking say that rather than trying to gaslight everyone into believing that all these competent developers are all unreasonable arseholes who are screwing you, a multi-billion-dollar corporation over.

Bit harsh your opinion touched a nerve apparently to get downvoted. I think you expressed yourself politely and sincerely and you may also be right. Reddit had years to cultivate subs by and for people who are not terminally online, and those are the people who will be slowest to adopt complicated fediverse tech.

What attack? (Sincere question)

Subnautica is so much fun. I spent hours and my wrists on Sub 1 and 2.

I love cars, especially the old restored ones, or reading about people tinkering and troubleshooting. But I subscribe to fuckcars because I fucken hate literal vans being used in my city and clogging up the streets designed for less and smaller traffic. Those Chelsea tractors, as they call them in the UK can fuck right off. Fine em, tax em, whatever you need to do, sabotage their tyres, whatever. Fuck em.

5% lol you're way off. If you're that far off for Spain, I have to wonder if your arse was also the source for the figures for the other countries.

Excellent explanation, thanks.

From a place of ignorance: why is x265 better for 3d and not AV1?

Oh wow, you're right. I'm not used to that being possible here!

This must play a huge role. Given how Lemmy works, illegal content is actively being hosted on your server, that's a huge risk, surely. I wouldn't touch hosting porn on any server I owned or administered with a ten foot pole.

I'm staying away for my own good. The first game sucked waaaay too many hours out of my life!

You've got a point, there's some danger here, but I would have zero sympathy if someone ignored the fact that sarcasm isn't communicated well in text.

I don't know, I think a thumbs up is clear acceptance tbh.

Don't sweat it. You'd have to create a profile on each instance and then create all of the subs on each. And some have decent bot protection, so that is tougher. Then if they're not active and you want one, start/find it on your home instance and petition your home instance's admins for mod control. They'll probably see whats going on and cut that power(-crazy) user off.

It's not like Reddit where there's only one version of a community. It's a double-edged sword, this feature, but in your case it's a clear benefit.

This guy does great reviews, I feel like he's pretty bang on with his criticisms in general. There's no way I'm spending anything over €700 on a phone though tbh, so I'm definitely not the target demo.

Thank you

https://lemmy.fmhy.ml/post/280651 I don't know how to see the community on the gerboa app, so hopefully this link can work!

Cool, always good to see new options, I hadn't come across this one before.

Honestly, the news trying to make a big deal of the game controller thing seems silly to me. Modern controllers are generally well designed based on research and experience and have lots of options for mapping actions to different buttons. Also, it can easily be switched out when something better comes along.

That's interesting. Where is here for you? Was that term something pushed by the UK?

I have to say I've never seen people let their water sit or boil it, and I've been all over the place since 2010 in Spain. I know for hard (not heavy :)) water you can install (expensive) systems between the incoming water and your taps that can soften it, but I don't know how common they are. I would drink the tap water from any town in Spain without a second thought. Wouldn't you? A finca in the countryside, I might be sceptical, or a service station in the middle of nowhere, maybe not, but any "built-up" area, for sure.

After the kerfuffle recently about one of the NSFW instances allowing drawn CSAM, I reckon you could get in trouble if you federate with an instance like that if you're hosting in a jurisdiction where that sort of content is illegal. Or imagine in the future, deepfake celebrity porn may get federated onto your instance and put you in the firing line for hosting that illegal content. NSFW is the most obvious, but I think there could be ramifications for hosting content on your own instance federate din from elsewhere that is illegal in your jurisdiction.

Oh I want to know this too! Can't wait to get a bustling f1 community around here. I'm in formula1@lemmy.world and @lemmy.ml

Honestly, we should just leave it behind and focus on making communities here better. They have every right to cut off their nose to spite their face on their own website. Let's learn from that for the future in contributing to making someone else's website great.

I had a OnePlus 3t. The power button stopped working in the end, but it lasted a good five years and was fast enough, even at the end. The camera was awful from the beginning though. Like you say tough, the prices now are nothing special.

I believe there is a community called trash panda(s?) somewhere, I'll try and find it and post it later, I bet you'd like it over there too :)

What's the deal with one word of your comment being replaced with 'removed' in italics?

Just dropping a comment here

That link didn't work for me, it says the community couldn't be found

Could you DM me the Homepage link? I'm not finding it among generic results. Yes, I'm a wee bit dim.

Thanks to you both, I think I read at some point that nextcloud might be a bit overpowered and resource heavy (for me). I'll look into syncthing.

That's helpful, he wouldn't have admin access, mostly because I know enough to know that what I don't know is dangerous.

Cheers, that's reassuring

Yes, I downloaded something recommended because I was curious and genuinely could not make heads or tails of what I was looking at. I've got about 4 pis and 80tb of storage kicking around, for context. Just noped out after a couple days

How is this world news?! I don't give a fuck what's going on in some city in the USA

Three to one is such an absurd parody of justice.
