I like traveling and exploring.

Oh no or else they might have to do real work and actually start modding the site!

Hey at least we're at the point where people are asking the questions! Literally three days ago nobody needed to summon a dermatologist.

Coming to a comment thread to reply "this" feels so cheugy. When I think of the heydey of reddit, I think of 2011 in my dorm room doing the grow a college subreddit. And here we are twelve years later and the best experience you can get now is exactly that same experience.

I actually like the idea of a lot of the bigger subs getting their own instances. Makes it easier to organize different topics than the flair by just creating separate communities.

I can't even begin to fathom the type of personality you need to have to still use Twitter.

How it started: what if we built a platform where people create and moderate the content, but we just make all the money?

How it's going:

That's what I don't get either, at this point I don't see how anyone would willingly spend their time modding on reddit, so there they must be doing it against their will!

Now they "only" sell for about 50,000. There's still plenty of people who don't get why it's not worth that much.

I could smell the rot as soon as I took a gander at their official app. The spirit of the site is gone from the inside out.

And I'm super curious the steps they'll take to force people to consume this garbage. Because now the main competition to their new AI stuff, is all the old stuff with real people. I'd rather watch Cannonball Run 2 for eternity than an AI movie once.

Because arts don't indoctrinate the youth with messages business moguls like and control, education does.

I found out quickly that the instance matters. California at exploding-heads is not the same thing as my California, and they won't be talking about fun hikes to do on the weekend over there.

So her biggest issue is that the tablet wasn't on the dock when it needed to be used. Because she took it and wanted to use it for herself. Having a smart home hub means you can't take it away and use it to surf the web.

As if human journalists unfamiliar with their tasked subject have never made this mistake.

And let's be real, if they're getting ready to ban NSFW content on the apps anyway, nobody is going to keep paying for that.

On one hand, it's likely exactly what they wanted. They get a vanilla app with vanilla content, perfectly tailored for vanilla investors. The part they forgot is that the beacon of internet culture will never be vanilla.

It's almost like it would be easier to just walk away, I feel for the people that are forced to stay and continue to mod.

Really looking hard at how the intention of building a community to sell it at a profit has turned out for Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and now Reddit. People are burned out from constantly trying to chase the next big app. It's at the point now where everyone knows playing into corporate social media will only result in its eventual death, so what's the point in engaging?

I get unsolicited emails from random sales people every day at Zendesk, GoTo, Salesforce, HubSpot, Adobe, et al not even realizing I'm already a customer and have an account rep.

Honestly you could say because you like to talk about tacos and it would get approved most of the time. We have that turned on because otherwise we'll get 60k spam users overnight. Email verification costs money especially if you're being spammed with 60k requests and the statement box stops all of it.

But I just want it to be the full width of the screen AND have a border!!

You mean people aren't hopping on the join the conversation with Crisco and General Mills? Who woulda thunk! I thought for sure that would be the killer application right there.

The best way Ive found is to copy the html of your community list and paste it into an online tool that pulls the hyperlinks out of it, then make an excel spreadsheet to change the URL of the community to the https format so it's easier to search. The instances also aren't 100% compatible. Like I can subscribe to kbin and Fedia on my larger instance account but not on my self hosted one.

Yeah it was a weird combination of whatever was leftover from the blackouts. Like yeah maybe 90% of your subs are offline but hey at least you still have /r/rayonsweatpants!

How do I approach a VC firm about losing all their money in a big spectacle? Seems to be all the rage these days.

It would be illegal in the US too and business get sued every day because of it.

I like it more than reddit honestly. We've already expanded into a space 3x the size of what we have on reddit, although there are far less people and a lot of those communities will disappear. Honestly an architecture mistake that reddit only allowed one subreddit per topic instead of entire an entire reddit instance dedicated to one thing.

Weird the percent symbol in the post headline didn't show up until I tapped the upvote button.

I think a lot of restaurants don't have good gator because it's hardly ever ordered so who knows how freezer burned it is. I've have mixed experiences from bad to neutral.

Lol I'm sorry what, this guy really spent his money on an anti woke film festival? Has he ever even been to a film festival? The whole point is wokeness. Really curious to see what Atlas Shrugged esque films he's financed, so I can make sure I run away from all the major plot points when they happen in real life.

But it still doesn't solve the issue though of being required to look at corporate ads which are designed to increase consumption in order to solve climate issues. We will never be able to advertise our way out of this.

IMHO, Lemmy.world is better for like general discussion communities such as memes, TIL, AMA, earthpics, etc. Anything on that instance will always be "general". Like, California@lemmy.world would be for like general news and updates but California@artists.social (not a real instance but just as an example) could be all about art and culture.

Exactly, it was kind of a facetious comment, but it is kind of sad there's mods that feel a sense of obligation to run a corporate social media site and that the reddit leadership is banking on the social currency of being a mod keeping any sort of value.

"Hey I gotta go, my kid just walked in the room with a staple in his finger"

Wefwef is awesome I just installed it as a web app!

Hopefully with an option to sort by something other than date taken.

I'm actually surprised that metric would change much, because the users viewing ads aren't impacted by changes to the API or third party apps. So that's literally just 20% of people who either stopped using the site in solidarity or couldn't get to their content because of the protests.
