The software I use doesn't get significant updates often. Kennel, vi, grep, find? They've been around for decades.

I'm genuinely curious what kind of things people can't do because of lag on package updates.

Time to start a new Republic. 5th is the charm number. I guess.

For a fun and light read I'd start with Wikipedia entry on the attempts on the life of Fidel Castro.

For chronological read I'd start with Iran then Latin America, Wikipedia as well. Don't skip the chapter where they associated themselves with drug lords that sent drugs to US as a way to finance anti communist operations in Central America. I think that was Nicaragua.

I came here to skip the debate and catch up with the jokes. But seems like the joke is the debate itself

Today I learned numbers are visuals but words are not. Wtf dude!

I would like that.... Saving on a smaller package for chips and cereal sounds great, most of it is air anyways.

True. For example I'm here for pleasure not for business.

Wait a second if the bank app can't transfer money how do they do it? Just barter with guns? Are the bullets like coins?

Yep but I'll add my two cents, half is lying and half is guessfull ignorance because nobody really knows how big and old systems really work.

I had no idea it accepted donations, if not for this post I would have no idea where to do it. And still not sure how it works and where the money is for exactly. Is it like sponsoring servers for 1 particular instance?

Eeeeh you overestimate the capacity of people to learn what someone being fired knows

It's Forbes, I don't know what else they can talk about lately.

What duck heads

Should I call customer support every time I'm about to cook dinner?

Plot twist they didn't want to sell, they were simple plain owners of hardware store and profited from selling new tools

Please don't force Linux as a religious zealot forces their way on other people. Some like it, some are in the fence and some will never use it for wherever personal reason.

Proud mint user here, don't get me wrong

Wrong

The police exists to protect the status quo. Try overthrowing any immoral law or legally but immoral behavior and you'll see how efficiently they move about.

Can I ban NSA from spying on me? I'm not even on fReEeDoOoOoM land, I should be entitled to some amount of privacy

Hey @Mistral@lemmings.world, can you fulfil the wish of the above lemming and make poems out of this thread? Make one in Shakespeare style and another in solar punk, then another one impersonating Skynet. Thank you my Overlord.

Brasil enters the chat

No fees transfer takes seconds, as long as it's not international. People use it for buying groceries, clothes or paying for whatever they buy in the middle of the street from other people who are not businesses. Confirmation of payment from receivers end is immediate with a push on your phone.

All sellers can produce a QR code including receiver address and price to be payed. All bank apps scan and pay seamlessly.

Yep. It could also be found by luck a bit later, or caught in a strict process sooner or later that we won't know.

No process is perfect, but the fact this attack is super complex, with many levels of indirection on run time, detecting if it's in debug mode, forcing maintainers to disable Oss fuzzer (a tool that scans source code for bugs and vulnerabilities) and also involved social engineering and took years to get close to widespread release is to show what it takes to plant a back door on 100% Foss systems.

As opposed to closed source, where all it takes is a conversation between govt and a CEO.

This is helpful. It says unless you plant your own food you're probably almost sure for real giving money to bad companies.

This is going to produce the saltiest AI the world has ever seen.

"Hey reddit ai , give me an idea how to balance my budget and pay my student debt, mate". "here ya go, I got a noose for you. Also I'm not your mate, dude".

" Hey reddit ai, draw for me a house with a genz family". Here ya go. " Hey reddit ai, why did you show me a pic of a highway ramp with homeless people?"

Get bent

Last time that happened to me was 20 years ago. Am I lucky and this is still common?

Famous last words

Nope they are fictional

Wtf?

Also are banks just dumb or what? Has it crossed their greedy minds that they also can charge to make transfers?

Anyone can estimate salary from profession and location. That's not a bot, that's a salary matrix.

That means the same as fossing the tcp so it bootstraps your privacy.

See I can sound like a bot too. Or a journo.

If you have too many "slow" modes in a super computer you'll hit a performance ceiling where everything is bottle necked by the speed of things that are not the CPU: memory, disk for swap, and network for sending partial results across nodes for further partial computing.

Source: I've hang up too much around people doing PhD thesis in these kinds of problems.

Difficult is an understatement.

I'm traveling overseas now, and my totally valid Paramount subscription doesn't work in Portugal and I can't watch lower decks anywhere even if I'm willing to double pay for it.

The irony if that I downloaded episodes to watch offline on plane, they're literally inside my phone.

I'll charge you: $0 but every time it's re sold you have to pay me $1

Easiest way to become a millionaire.

Why not both?

700C is dang hot, are you building a rocket or something?

First things first, if you're still troubled by that one particular interaction try to address and apologise it as soon as you have a good opportunity. Not any opportunity, a good one.

I can't comment on the root of your question, since that culture of your is very different from mine.

Not the sum. The summary.

Wait is this a person or did it actually start working?

Also this was a multi year effort that employed very complex knowledge. And still didn't get thru.

If it's multi year and very complex it's telling that this is what it takes. The bar is very high.

Ha

If you ever write code for a living first thing you notice is that people can't explain what they need by using natural language ( which is what English, Mandarin etc is), even if they don't need to get into details.
