I regret looking up the clip: https://youtu.be/jNFOVkB6JjQ

Sorry to say to my UK friends, it looks like these people have no manners when it comes to debating. Asking a question and then proceeded to shout over them. I'm surprised they still have viewers.

Lindell was ordered to pay $5 million to a man who won a “Prove Mike Wrong” contest at his 2021 “cyber-symposium” where he challenged experts to examine his data, which he claimed proved Donald Trump really won the 2020 election.

It didn’t, and one expert who looked at the data demanded the prize.

Lindell refused to pay, so the case went to court, where he lost.

I use Firefox everywhere which means I have ads blocking everywhere, including and especially on Android. All my tabs are synced and are easily transferred between devices.

This guy thinks he can do exactly what Trump does and get away with it like Trump seems to always do. The root cause must be fixed.

If only smart glass is as popular as mobile phones. When Google introduced their smart glass, I dreamt of a day when a price history overlay is displayed when looking at a barcode, like how Keepa is doing for Amazon.

I also like German price display which has effective price, as in Eur per liter for drinks, making it dead simple to compare products. A smart glass will make it available everywhere.

Back to Carrefour, I really like that they are pushing pro consumer actions. However, we all know too well that they won't do the same when it's their products which are shrinking. Still better than no action though.

I worked as software engineer and my boss tolerated me going to office at 2pm and leave at 9pm. It's against company policy, certainly, but no one talked about it. It still is my most productive and happy time.

This is why maintaining your account there and keep deleting your comments/posts will destroy Reddit. Do it, you have the power.

That means what The Verge says is 100% correct. Reddit will speak when there's corrections to make. :-)

I pirate because it's more convenient. No launcher, no update, no DRM, no need to be always online. I still purchase games but still play the pirated version.

Easy, close the company down.

Encrypt then sign. Verification is often much faster than (or at worst as fast as) decryption. Signature can also be verified without decryption key, making it possible to verify the data along the way.

RoR is too much magic for me. Getting started with any new code base is such a pain that I never want to do again. As a manager, I'll avoid any job post that mentions Ruby. I have maintained projects written in Delphi, Centura, Java, C#, PHP and none of them even come close to the pain of RoR. Java and C# are notorious for ceremonial interfaces but that's nothing compared to trying to figure out RoR automagics.

Epic wanted exclusives by pulling games from other platforms. I will never spend a single cent on Epic Games. I'm happy to spend it on Steam, especially games that I have pirated before (Commandos series for example) or indie games (Banished anyone?).

For bigger games such as Civilians, I'll purchase it on Steam and then pirate so I don't need to run Steam. I am a big fan of patches to remove the intro screen.

Others have given excellent advices. I'll approach it from management point of view:

  • If there's management oversight, such as tech lead/engineering manager, talk to them. Don't make any accusation. Approach it from the direction of you feeling uncomfortable with how the team is working. They will know how to solve the issue. However, any tech lead/engineering manager should have already dectected the problem and at a minimum acknowledge the issue.

  • If there's no tech management oversight, I'd suggest you approach the senior engineer directly. I'd want to emphasize here that it has to be tech management. Non tech management won't understand the problem and they won't be able to solve the problem. Sometimes the senior engineer maybe under pressure to deliver and there's nobody to split the tasks to other team members. I did this a few times in my career before I developed my skill to lead a team.

  • If it's neither because the senior is under pressure to deliver, nor there's management oversight, your next best bet is to seek consultantion with another senior, either in your team or another team. They maybe able help to talk to the senior.

  • Your last resort would be non tech management, or saying it another way: express that you're not happy with your job. This won't be much help unless others in your team doing so as well.

If all these fail, consider finding another offer. There's no oversight, there's no willing to inprove from the senior and there's no chance to improve the situation from other seniors, you won't learn much there.

The original video showed that just changing the Agent string fixed the "problem", so it has nothing to do with ad blocking.

As with traditional Reddit PR: Reddit will comment when there's correction to be made. Since Reddit made no correction, the article is 100% accurate.

I think you misunderstood spez. He wanted no 3rd party app at all. RIF was paying Reddit for using their brand name and spez terminated the contract. It's all about control.

It would be much easier to just inject ads into data returned by the API. Apps will automatically display these ads and developers will understand that if they filter these ads, their access to Reddit will be either limited or completely cut out.

Lemmy advantage is that it's both open source and federated. Someone can make a version with accessibility feature (which will likely be integrated into main version) and deploy an instance for blind users. Blind users will then have access to the whole fediverse.

RoR is very... specific. Some love it because it comes with magic. Many hate it for the same reason.

You either knows the magic and love it, or you hate it with a passion. You never really know when (not if) your change will break the system because it's supposed to name in a very specific way that work by, again, magic.

I keep my account and deleted every single comment or post I've made. If you have ever follow any thread, seeing a [deleted] comment is infuriating even if it turns out to be insignificant info. I want to maximize my departure's effect and that's exactly what I wanted.

This study failed to take into consideration the need to feed information to AI. Companies now prioritize feeding information to AI over actually making it usable for humans. Who cares about analyzing the data? Just give it to AI to figure out. Now data cannot be analyzed by humans? Just ask AI. It can't figure out? Give it more so it can figure it out. Rinse, repeat. This is a race to the bottom where information is useless to humans.

I worked as engineer for 15 years and then management for the last 2 years. The urge to go back to engineering never stop. What keeps me in management is seeing how I can create the environment where engineers are able to do their work.

If I go back to being an engineer, I won't be able to make sure product requirements are clear, priorities are correct, team members will have a chance to practice skills they don't get to do at work. At the minimum, protecting my engineers from stupid back to office policies that were enforced just because the CEO felt lonely one day. Would someone who has not worked as an engineer understand the feeling of stairing at the screen for 8 hours not able to start anything due to burnout is the worst feeling ever? Will they hear the grinding wheels when soneone used the wrong term during meetings?

There are just so many things that I can do for MY engineers, exactly what I wanted when I was still an engineer. I don't trust others to provide that so I take it on myself to do it. Granted, I need support from upper level for this to happen so it's an important aspect for me when I apply for jobs.

My experience with maintaining open source projects (though mine are very much smaller) is that it's quite similar to a business: you just have to deal with stakeholders and people who think they are stakeholders.

I had all the same experience at work:

  • Some unknown person from an unrelated team contacted me because something that my team does not manage broke. I tried to help a few times and I suddenly became their personal IT support team.

  • Another time someone not even working at my company demanded that I drop everything and fix their problem, because my name appeared in 3rd parties libraries.

It's sad that open source authors don't always receive the recognition that they deserve.

If the price I saw when I picked an item is different to what I pay at the counter, I'll never be back at that place again, even if it means I'm paying less.

How star reviews, especially on PlayStore, is not what most people think. Reviews are given weight so that one star means almost nothing, unless there's no other ratings. Remember that app stores have interest in apps staying highly rated to attract users. Nobody want to see an app store with mostly below average ratings.

This also applies to any rating system where the service has interest in keeping them high, such as Amazon shopping. The way I combat this to use 2 stars to make my impact on the rating much higher.

See the white, metal looking thing in the image? That's another tracking device from the government to track people wherever they do. They even put it in all 4 of your wheels so they will know when to issue you a traffic ticket. Remove them. /s

It depends I think. I found Chrome to be a tiny bit faster but then ads bogged the page down so most of the time, Firefox is faster for me.

In some very rare cases when I need to disable ads blocking, Chrome is indeed faster but I'd rather abandon websites rather than disable ads blocking.

So if you love ads, Chrome is better. If you hate ads like I do, Firefox is miles ahead.

I say it's super productive. People go to Reddit because others have already done the work to vote the best content for consumption. For majority of Reddit users who just passively consume info (and maybe vote), seeing John instead of cats will significantly reduce their interest in Reddit.

I was skeptical of Lemmy and Mastodon thinking they will never become mainstream. It's like able to run your own phpBB forum does not mean there will be a community. Businesses are wary of obscure software that are hard for customers to understand.

That was before the recent Reddit protest. Seeing how Reddit handles the protest, I have a feeling that this will work, especially when u/spez said he follows Elon footsteps.

In the last week, I started to see communities forming and I'm now sure there's no going back for Reddit and Twitter.

CEOs tends to think they're special. They do not think they are there because of right time right place.

I work in tech and I have seen how a small change in organization structure, such as a Product Manager leaving, or adjusting how Product, Engineering and Marketing working together, having a huge impact on how the business operates. Yet most CEOs think the company is where they are because of their own decisions. It's quite the other way around: CEOs suggesting stupid policies and other people cleaning up the shit, like "let's all go back to office because I'm lonely here", despite majority of employees work remotely from another fricking country.

It is compulsory for all Israelis to do military service. In a way, some civilians in the concert are also soldiers. I have no idea how I would look at it but let's not exclude the military service.
