idk if you came up with this but I expect to see this joke a bunch more in the coming days lol

Interesting that he would try to use the potential number of views as a selling point while also publicly decimating the reach of Twitter posts lol

"The suckers we talked into giving us money for our crazy salaries over the past decade+ want a return on their investment so cough up"

I feel like this reveals an uncomfortable truth about the lemmy user base lol

Breaking their users' trust by appending attribution tags to their URLs should've been unforgivable but I still see people pushing their browser online

It's worth noting that also according to that article women attempt suicide 1.3x as often as men -- but men are more likely to use guns so they end up dying more. It seems to me guns are a core part of the issue

Jamie Hyneman

It makes sense to me that people are more worried about potentially any corporation / bad actor accessing their data rather than one

Yes it seems like this move basically reverses all the progress that has been made this week, suddenly kicking everyone out of the most popular communities just as they were starting to participate is not going to go over well. Nobody is going to switch to lemmy if popular instances get overwhelmed so easily

This article is literally the first time I've heard that he's running as a Democrat and not a Republican lol

Outcome: Everyone must wear pants

The "too good to be true" sell and complete lack of detail / pricing on their website is sketchy imo. I'm immediately suspicious of any org that profits off of piracy in such an opaque way

Pretty sure those extensions all use some sort of estimate methodology, the dislikes aren't available via any apis or anything

I haven't used Mastodon much but if I'm being optimitistic it feels like the reddit model (anonymous users built around themed communities) lends itself better to the current state of the fediverse than the Twitter model

The irony of tagging and asking a bot this lol

Ya I'm surprised that people are advocating for Plex these days especially in a self hosting community, it's overbloated and mostly exists to force their FAST service down your throat

To be fair to Google, it's not entirely their fault, there's a whole industry now that's entire purpose is to fuck up the results

I disagree, Google has encouraged and profited massively off of SEO, they could've maintained the integrity of result but instead they bent over backwards to make sure SEO methods worked as long as folks were paying Google

Not saying there isn't any journalistic value in the article but it feels like this mostly exists to get 'nuke' and 'Mars' in the same title lol

[DO NOT DEVELOP MY APP]

There are a lot of legitimate reasons someone might be a victim of one of these scams that aren't the result of them being stupid, I don't see any reason to encourage this crap

Is it also racist that China has banned Facebook and many other US based services?

Ya I appreciate the gesture but if this truly is the "biggest" robocall racket I have to imagine a 300M fine is a dropping the bucket

To my knowledge there's also no way of identifying bot accounts unless they proactively self identify so these numbers don't don't mean much

Ya it's a little concerning how quickly people shifted to posting low effort crap in bulk in order to simulate a bigger community

I don't think they're saying that method would yield 100% clean data but it would give you all the "necessary" data with the absolute bare minimum storage requirement. At some point people will log into their email and for most people if you have their email password you have the password they use for everything

Look at his post history, he seems to have a weird mistrust of magnets and believes they could just all turn off one day

The irony of this comment is you can find the cooking show but not Westworld on HBO lol

People have been asking this since they announced the end of DVDs and Netflix is yet to address it so it feels like they're probably gonna go to waste, fingers crossed that Netflix can get a bigger write off by donating them than burning them though lol

I'm sure they've been spending the last week thinking of a way to recap this without showing the full thing, such as just focusing on specific sections instead of showing a time-lapse of the the entire canvas. Similarly I'd be surprised if they released the pixel placement data set this time without major edits

Absolutely laughable that all these corporate dumbasses are tripping over themselves to explain why their platform is more user friendly but even with near unlimited resources to build a decent product Meta et al still can't figure out a way to justify their existence without quantifying and selling their users' private behaviors

Looks like the kbin crew has arrived here with their /m/s lol

This could've been posted in 2015 and have the same mean, there has always been <holds up spork> shit lol

Just dropped a crisp fiver on Oblivion, figured 17 years of people telling me to play it is enough reason to give it a shot

Execs are no doubt panicking because the infinite growth they've promised as a result of their 2020 finances is starting to look unlikely and they need excuses to cut down on employees

Sometimes I think the developers of these kinds of projects sometimes drink too much of their own Kool aid -- yes emulation as a concept is legal but 99% of dolphin users are not ripping and emulating their own legal games and they know that

No I swear I just have an account there for all the SFW stuff!!!

You should post your Beau opinion on !movies@lemmy.world, I think since the movie sub is trying to keep its users on reddit it's been slow to get movie discussion going here lol

I've never used one myself but I've heard talk of various ones either A) taking the public (real) like number and extrapolating the dislikes based on an old like/dislike ratio available for the video from before the dislike removal (doesn't work on new videos) or B) the extension includes a feature where the user can like/dislike the video within the extension and then the dislike number is extrapolated using the public (real) like number and the extension's private like/dislike ratio. In either case the number is not connected to the "real" dislike count that YouTube would have access to internally

The old internet didn't have an all encompassing issue with bots and bad actors trying to gain your trust, a public post history is basically the closest thing a person can have to a trustable identity online, it's not a perfect solution but it helps
