Glad to see this video, even with some of the drawbacks mentioned in the comments. I think everyone needs a path to redemption and LMG should get a chance. I think that this "reflection" should be more regular. LMG is no longer a small company and like it or not, they need to regularly be ahead of these situations. I really hope that they will take a week ever month or two to review any new screw ups and remedy them. Process will not solve everything, ensuring a company culture that has key values will triump process. It takes time however. I wish them the best.
Have I visted reddit, yes. Do I use it? No. I have grown to love lemmy. Disconnecting from a hyper charged, conterversy seeking website has done me good!
Don't get me wrong, reddit was amazing until it's CEO wanted to cash in on the hard work done by its community. I don't have an issue with being profitable, the means used simply isn't acceptable.

To be honest, if my current phone had the a reliable way for me to change it's battery, I would keep it for longer even! I got my custom ROM going with the latest updates, pixel ported cam. The only limitation I have is lack of 5g and reduced battery life. In all honesty, with chargers in my car, work and home, it hasn't become a reason to change yet.
Even that is a lame excuse, waterproof phones event existed in the replaceable battery era! Speaking of the replaceable battery era, I remember those extended batteries. With a thicker back cover, we got even bigger batteries. It's a pity how we have no choice now.
I was referring to what was stated in the video. The issues with poor benchmarking and the billetlabs issue (email sent to the wrong recipient). I am not sure why you think any of it implied that it is ok to treat people without respect if the organisation is below a certain size. I was referring to ensuring that a company culture of being humble, responsible and accountable via a monthly or bi monthly review. It could have potentially caught the issue with billetlabs and even several issues with the benchmarking. This is perhaps easier done in a small company but needs to be nurtured and reinforced in a bigger one. I hope my position is more clear.
It is a blessing for someone like me who had a lot of difficulties to stay away from reddit. Lemmy gives me a slow paced window of reddit, with RSS feeds taking up the rest of the free time. So in the end the time I spend is more focussed on my interests but driven by reputable sites instead of someone in reddit.
Captcha or recaptcha is good enough imo, no point in reinventing the wheel. Alternatively, split instructions in an email and on the website. For ex: Send email with What is the square of 3 (sent as an image for every word) And on the website Email + 25 = xxxxx
The longer ive stayed off reddit, the more I have grown the love the benifits of Lemmy. Discussions are civil, the vibe is a lot more chill and if anything, it invites users to participate. I wasn't sure if I would manage to avoid reddit given how addicted I was to it. Suddenly, I feel like I've found a better place...
