im not going to lie this is one of the stupidest things ive ever seen a major tech company do

gender binary reinforcement memes suck just as much as other ways of reinforcing the gender binary

its kind of crazy to me how many people are moving over to that place. on one hand i appreciate that it's somewhat containing twitter culture protecting much better new socials like cohost but on the other, it is frustrating to have no access to so many people who switched to blue sky's with its bizarre and abrubt popularity as an alternative platform despite being diet fediverse.

These general users are shifting to Discord. The people I actually WANT to interact with are moving to indie social platforms (i.e cohost, fediverse, spacehey) and revitalizing forums. I strongly recommend against seeing this as a systemic issue against social networks/media; it's an issue with VC funded ones that prioritize growth above a better platform and community. For the health of the internet, please do not flee to walled garden discord servers. Use social media for what its for; make connections with random people. Using it just to follow famous people you'll never directly interact with will isolate you.

lmao i don't think their political affiliation is strictly related to how much of a pussy they are in this context

It looks like what they were trying to convey is apparently that it can be a large time and effort commitment that most people don't have the technical expertise to figure out, which is a fairly reasonable argument in some contexts, but I do not think they conveyed it very well and they're being kind of a dick about it in the replies, so idk. I understand the point, but this is NOT the way to get it across.

tbh im in the same boat. i just keep on blockin them and make use of subscriptions

i literally only use my roku tv to open hdmi1 which has a fire stick on it (which i only use for jellyfin)

I have yet to find something that tops Dsub despite how unfinished even Dsub is

ungoogled chromium obviously

i hate to be that guy but i still cant see why not just use libretube at this point... newpipe has always been just a fair bit too far behind libretube in functionality for me to daily drive it. only reason i can think of is the removing from playlists bug, audio-only streaming bug, or piped inexplicably not working for you since ive heard some people are cursed like that lol. those are still pretty niche though. im honestly curious, what are some reasons you folks have picked one over the other?

extremely insightful. will share with everyone i can

I use eternity; I havent found something that it struggles with yet. Can anyone here let me know why use decided against eternity? I dont really know its limitations since I've only used it.

at least now we can just subscribe with RSS to get updates and actually have the links be usable

image going straight to my dad

i was offered one but im not really interested in making an account unless i can do it on a different instance. i do not trust the official one a single bit, lol

fair enough! if it works, it works, i guess. the proxy disable doesn't seem to work for me either, by the way, i just checked! i guess it's probably a known issue.

that's reasonable i guess, though im only really interested in YouTube frontends for the privacy benefits which piped helps greatly with. why not use something like revanced, or why not turn off the piped proxy in libretube?

I'm just fundamentally against those tablets in cars. I've never seen a single good implementation of it. This first question I always have is... what can this do that my phone cant do easier, faster, and better? And 100% of the time I've had to ask this it has been nothing. I just use a phone grip on either my dashboard or my windshield and that accomplishes the same thing without having to use the massive, clunky, and usually dysfunctional tablet stuck on my console. Another enormous complaint is that most cars that work like this also remove aux/tape/cd and then BURY the bluetooth audio option underneath a bunch of finnicky android auto shit that has so many different problems all of which wouldn't exist in the first place if i could just set my phone in a clamp and plugged in the aux cable. The only benefit android consoles have i can tell it has is being big if you have bad eyesight.

Philosophically, obviously I'm against DRM blah blah and no matter how easy it is to crack I just don't really like the idea of spending money on a license to play something instead of the something itself. I also don't really like contributing to the online services monopoly steam seems to be maintaining. There's a myriad smaller stuff that drives me away from steam that I don't really feel like explaining, but those two are the main philosophical reasons.

Practically, for reasons I obviously won't disclose, my account is at risk of spontaneous termination if they wanted to, so its not really worth investing more money into my walking time bomb of an account.

I get why steam makes sense for most people and I don't have any intention to shame people for... well, being normal where I'm not. I just like having friends who share my personal preferences!

I actually just installed this the other day, weird coincidence. It works great though! I've tested it with my personal collection and random music on the radio at public locations.

Invidious. It got so bad that I just gave up and switched to piped which has been... well, not perfect, but definitely far more consistent.

articles like this are so weird as an aromantic person. like that's SO beyond off the table already

this is a phenomenal reason to disagree with me, i have no argument. if you use multiple vehicles on a regular basis through vehicle share or work, android auto sounds extremely useful. thanks for the reply

ngl i consistently have a better experience running games through wine than using their native versions. linux ports are often completely dysfunctional and it sucks ass

verifiable via personal experience

haha lutris is more than satisfactory for me

ive tried to get nextcloud working several times and it just seems to never work for some reason... maybe i should set it up on a pi ive got laying around instead of my main server lol

seconded. the built-in custom css selection is excellent. ive been strongly considering self-hosting an RSS bridge, but i think my server has too much unpredictable downtime for it

that is... surprising. not that i don't believe you, snap just doesn't have a good track record, lol. ill have to research if it's feasible to run a snap package on a debian server, though.

real answer? im way too stupid to figure out how the hell to use it. i spent 3 straight days trying to get it working a couple years ago with no luck.

GoG or itch only, launch with lutris. I just don't want to risk putting up with this.

oh LOL that's a pretty great reason!

how so?

what baseless_discourse said. a windshield or dashboard mounted phone clamp. it is far cheaper, easier, and downright better, for myriad reasons. viewing angle is better, music playing is unspeakably easier, system resources are almost guaranteed to be better, software compatibility is better, etc.

that sucks i guess??

bandcamp-dl is a blessing. i used to use zotify too back when it actually worked and it was a godsend!

im not sure / cannot recall. it's been a few months since i last tried to install it and it kept erroring out. im definitely strongly considering looking back into it though, it's just that reverse proxying to the container was a nightmare... it still haunts my config, lol

oh that's really interesting. i should look into it; thanks
