The only way of interaction with edge I got is at my work computer which runs windows 10 πŸ˜‘ every time after an update the edge logo sits itself back into the taskbar until I remove it again. So annoying and and encroaching. For real fuck Microsoft.

First reviews I saw on YouTube are quite disappointing. They really ship it with a powerbank and even without it this thing weights about 600 grams. I cannot imagine wearing this thing all day and do work or eh … what the fuck are you gonna do with this besides games and watching videos??

I am in conflict about that move. But Macron at least tries to irritate Putin with his own definition of a β€žred lineβ€œ, like β€žif you push to Odessa or Kyiv we will send troopsβ€œ maybe this is just the way of talking to Putin now, Russia always threaten Europe of nuclear strikes, their propaganda shitty tv shows is full of bombing Great Britain and sink the whole island, bombing or conquering Berlin again blah blah. They won’t because they can’t because of NATO and even without the US, Russia is not capable to conquer whole Europe, yet. So I think it is a good move in terms of threatening Putin with nato troops in Ukraine, because this is the only language he understands. On the other hand France is kinda safe when it comes to a conventional war, at least for a long time. Of course Germany is scared because it is not that far away, it is literally just Poland between Germany and russia and the German military is by far not able to fight a war against a well trained army with endless human resources.

COVID hit me the second time at my companies christmas party. I almost forgot that it is not a regular flu and covid kindly reminded me of that. I was down and laying in bed for a whole week with fever. Took me two weeks to feel almost back to normal. Got cough 2 to 3 weeks after I recovered. Still a weird illness with even more weird symptoms like skin rashes at fingers and toes. Get well soon.

Is there something like a CM4 knockoff around? I mean compatible to the cm4. Context: I got a Turing pi 2 board lying around waiting to become my new k3s homelab cluster. They ship with adapters for the cm4, so I need somewhat a board that is pin and software compatible.

Back in the days that was awesome. I had some kind of shitty Hotmail like German mail provider. 100MB storage, lots of ads. Google pushed into the right direction, almost unlimited storage, at first no ads. This was a huge step forward for email back then. Anyways I ditched Gmail and most of their services years ago, paying for mailbox.org for years, never looked back.

All hail the mighty AUR ;)

My system was built with the intention being a rock solid Linux gaming system. I also went with AMD (6700xt I think) and a cheap i5 12400F CPU. Never had any real issues running this thing with Arch (btw) til today. Thanks amd, thanks valve, thanks WINE devs.

Well there is bazzite or chimera

Oh this remembered me of that I do have an account since last year and just used it to argue with some fan boys about if Bluesky is full FOSS or not (it’s not)

No daemon needed, better security because of rootless approach, but well docker also runs rootless nowadays. Podman came up from frustration from Red Hat over docker, that’s why they developed their own thing. Afaik it is nearly full compatible and can be used as a drop in replacement for docker.

Oh well - why should one integrate this in a browser lol? Jesus sometimes I regret sharing something I think is good at first glance - but well I think I will then go back to librewolf

I discovered wezterm a few weeks ago and it is really neat, works even on windows. So I can share config files between my private and my work machine. It is kinda similar to alacritty but I don’t like how the developers of alacritty talk to people on GitHub, like they are really arrogant.

Youβ€˜re doing well, young Linux fellow

I don’t see a real β€žversusβ€œ here. Wayland will definitely become the standard display server for Linux distributions. This is not sysV init vs systemd or something else. As pointed out by lots of ppl here X11 is old and insecure because it is from another time and does not fit into modern systems and requirements, thus it is way easier to start new and fresh instead of working around for any feature needed and maintain such a old code base. The only downside for me personally is that Wayland does not support always on top windows automatically. So either right click the window or use plugins for videos from Firefox for example. AFAIK this is also for security reasons. I run Wayland on my main machine for years now, no problems at all. If I got the choice I would always go for Wayland. Even Cinnamon has experimental Wayland support now and hopefully will make the switch soon.

AKAI MPC standalones running some kind of Linux flavor https://niklasnisbeth.gitlab.io/mpc-internals/

Too bad they won’t release their DAW software for Linux desktops.

With all the DMA stuff going around I hope the EU take some real steps to Linux and FOSS in general. I mean come on, I can be root by design and fuckup my system if I want to - this is real freedom, gentlemen πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί

I stopped worrying after the hamas terrorists attack in Israel. Not because I don’t care and think this is horrible and all people should live in peace. But because it is too much information I can handle. All the media is full of wars and crisis but I don’t think there are more or less crisis then 20 years ago for example. The thing is we are so exposed with social media and news websites and stuff. I can’t even surf YouTube without getting actual news about what’s going on. Sometimes I just want to watch dumb or nerdy stuff or read some which is not related to bad things. Some say this is selfish or ignorant - well I still get enough news from the wars in Ukraine and Gaza - I just stopped reading and watching all the stuff I stumble across. I cannot even change much on the situation so it is kinda human to get used to stuff like that. I cannot even Imagine what it was like to live during the Cold War with permanent threat of getting nuked and stuff.

Thanks I will check that out. I never even thought of looking into rpi knock offs

Upvoting this because …

RedHat CoreOS derives from Fedora which is the underlying OS of OpenShift - so this is really interesting because it is not like in the old days β€žthis is a problem for future me when RHEL 15 drops in 10 yearsβ€œ. They are quite pushing hard with CoreOS, at least in OKD which uses Fedora CoreOS.

Afaik group policies ensure certain settings are set all the time. This really just happens after a windows update.

What exit code shows when you execute podman ps -a?

Spotube

I run a k3s Kubernetes cluster on a single KVM host(multiple VMs). Honestly I do not care a single f*ck about that machine nor k3s itself. I update once a year, do not have any documentation written nor IaC somewhere. I always forget how I configured the networking stuff for example. But that machine runs my critical services flawlessly without a single crash in like 3 years. So no I cannot relate.

I had the same need and didn’t want to read tooo much about ffmpeg and its options. I ended up using fastflix which uses ffmpeg under the hood with built in presets. Supports queues and lots of more stuff.

Dont think so. Desktop application relies on podman

The next job offer I will accept needs to have free choice of OS. I work with Linux systems and Kubernetes only, no Winshit but I am forced to use this shitty piece of crap of software. It is slow, buggy and clumsy as hell - maybe because of all the corporate software stuff and GPOs, the only office tools I need are outlook and teams, no word or excel but you cannot remove all the other stuff afaik. Updating is hell because it is controlled by our IT department, sometimes my laptop needs 3 restarts or is stuck in a boot loop. Just let me support myself and let me install some Linux flavor. Don’t need any support from corporate it besides vpn connection. Really fuck companies forcing *nix guys using windows. I know that for sure now. Never again.

Not related: but is β€žverbotenβ€œ (forbidden) really used in English? Just wondering because it is German.

I ended up using 3rd party controllers with 2,4Ghz dongles like 8bitdo. I even blacklisted the Bluetooth kernel module because it is so borked.

Thanks for pointing it out πŸ˜‚

I am confused but it seems most other instances besides feddit.de works quite well. I moved my account because the federation on feddit was (is?) broken. But yeah this was a major change and I guess most instances are sidecar projects and not professionally hosted nor maintained. I would definitely pay for a proper hosted and maintained Lemmy instance.
