I do like to see uplifting good news stories like this

Holocaust deniers. There is no excuse, fuck em

Yes, I hope it has been making China have second thoughts about invading Taiwan

China and fraud - like peanut butter and jelly, they just go together naturally

Well that is just appalling. In other words, just another Tuesday on reddit

I suspect that some degree of polyamory may be more socially acceptable in 100 years than it is now.

This is news? I would have been extremely surprised if it wasnt. This is normal for China, the CCP is eavesdropping on everything

Interesting tech but there are already decent available solutions such as the Schwalbe Marathon Plus and similar that are effectively glassproof, I have these on my bike and they work really well, one is over 15 years old now

What is varishangout..net? Initially read it as yarishangout.net and wondered why a space for Toyota Yaris owners got defedded. Also wondering how stereophonic.space got defedded?

Its a perfectly reasonable option for those that for whatever reason are unable to meet their needs by more conventional/ socially acceptable means. I do not make use of sex worker services currently but if the need arose in the future I would not rule it out, and would not look down on anyone else for doing so (as long as trafficing is not involved)

Workplaces were the worst, I kept catching other people's second hand smoke at work. Worst was when I went to an encounter group type thing and a guy was smoking and I got a faceful.... and bronchitis for the rest of the trip. And that was in the 90's

At least in my own home and car I could set the rules and rules was take that shit outside

Yes, Disulifram is the oldest of these, been around many years, and some chronic alcoholics just drink over it and power through the hangover

Naltrexone is the one I have heard most positive things about, never even heard of Acamprosate before.

Unfortunately when I was in a relationship with an alcoholic some years back Disulifiram was the only thing doctors here were even aware of.

I've used it a little bit on my phone in the past. Its pretty bad, especially for a major company product

Prostitution is already legal in a number of countries, as is cannabis and some other drugs in some places eg Portugal

I'm in general agreement with you but would make an exception for some extremely high harm drugs such as meth

Direct Democracy coupled with a constitution to protect the rights of minorities.

I dont want to vote for politicians, I want to vote for policies. It is a system that works remarkably well for Switzerland - and I doubt if many people can recall the name of a Swiss politician, for good reason - they are simply tasked with enacting policies rather than setting them. Another benefit of this system is it makes it all about policy, not personality.

How you'd elect the people tasked with carrying out policy would then become more about competence and track record than anything else. It would also mean that which system you use to elect those people would become less important, given that people would be voting on policies directly than along party lines

I'm from New Zealand, and although it does have much to recommend it, it does have some issues with crime, gangs, meth etc. similar to other Western countries. Nowhere near as bad as South Africa or a number of US cities, but not great either. There are more peaceful places believe it or not

Yeah who are these fucks? Whats their damage? Somebody oughta go knock some sense into them

Japan has to be a strong contender, if you are looking for peacefulness in your day to day life

A gun held to my head?

Yes, referring someone to AA if they know it will not work for them is just stupid. AA may work for some people but it cannot and should not be the only referral or treatment option - medication is going to be a better option for many. Unfortunately its much the same here

  1. I'll break it

  2. I dont need what a foldable offers

I've been in an enclosure with a 15 foot King Cobra. Not that

Having a green tree viper on my head. Not that

Face down with a rabid monkey in Malaysia. Not that

Having a large scorpion crawl up my arm. Not that

Ending up riding on top of a shoplifters car hanging on for dear life while they tore round the carpark trying to shake me off. Not that

End over end rollover at over 100 kmh in my first car. Not that

Nearly drowning in a fast flowing river when I got dragged under. Close, but no cigar

Leaving my alcoholic ex. This was the scariest moment of my life

What is most interesting about that site you linked is further down the page - it shows the number of subs still growing - but that graph cuts off at 2022. The post and comments per day plunged in early July and have not recovered. And the top poster and commenter is the same user - u/deleted

And as you say, reddit has alienated a heap of good mods - and they are the true foundation of a site like this, not users

What phones cant hotspot? If have had some really cheap bottom of the barrel phones and never had one that couldnt hotspot

This isnt new. Anyone who has been on a dating site or app in the last 20-30 years will have stories to tell.

The same applies with ads for almost anything. I can recall advertising a property to let in the early 2000's, the ad started with the line "Non-smokers wanted for non-smoking property" or something similar, and I repeated the non-smoking thing or variations of it over a dozen times within the ad. A couple turned up to look at it, both carrying cigarette packets, one actually smoking on arrival.....

NO. Not a fan of the current or former CCP or the former Soviet Union

Yes, a few times. Didnt make the slightest difference though, it almost never does. Such is life. Still, at least others viewing the discussion who were on the fence/ unsure will have been presented with the evidence needed to convince them

Cycling - saves me gas, often as quick as driving would be (we have epic all day congestion here). And its fun except when the weather is really bad. Only drive if I have a heavy load to go somewhere, or if I'm picking someone up or it is pouring

Also swimming - can be done year round indoors, and I dont sweat! Having a waterproof MP3 player helps me with motivation too

Just the one (on lemmy.world). Any more would get confusing.

Might possibly get a porn one, but sooner or later I will end up posting a long, technical post on road safety or something similar as @pantycumslutboi or something similar..... which could be interesting and amusing for other participatns in that discussion

This thread has almost 1400 replies, thats getting up there towards reddit levels of traffic. They are OK in the short term but the damage has been done and there is now a big viable alternative with decent amounts of traffic. I have noticed it is definitely quieter there

This so much. The fediverse is young, and still in its early stages, still ironing out a bunch of bugs and issues. It's only growing so well because the reddit admins keep finding more feet to shoot themselves in

I have been hearing stories of people here experiencing credit card fraud after buying stuff off TEMU. I wouldnt touch it myself, looks too good to be true

I'm surprised that there is anybody defending the current US healthcare system, its probably the worst feature of the US and the main thing putting me off from ever wanting to live there

Super flexible biological clock - I dont get jetlag - at all. I can fly half way round the world non-stop and get off at the other end and just carry on with my day, go to sleep when its night time at my destination. I also find shift work really easy, as long as I get some sleep at some time before or after I'm good. I can also turn sleeping on/off as required. I should have had a job that required a lot of travel

Who the hell wants to own, manage and be responsible for a human? Hell I can barely manage looking after a cat!

If you make most drugs legal bar the most harmful ones, people will gravitate towards the less harmful ones because of legal availability. The mistake the US made is to make all drugs illegal, blanket prohibition has been a disaster

Even worse here - we cant change the screensaver or screen lockout timeout settings!

I have a workaround by running a little looping script that keep the screen active. Its not that I particularly object to the screensaver, but once it activates I have to Ctrl Alt Delete 3-4 times and enter my password to get my desktop open again. Also it is an active screensaver that sometimes mucks up my desktop layout (I have a multiple monitor setup)

The thing is, we dont generally needed the noisy table muted, we just need it reduced in volume enough at our own table so we are able to carry out a normal conversation
