I don't think it's selfish to not want kids. With how fucked the world is, maybe we should be thinking about if it's instead selfish to have kids.

I determined from about age 12 that I didn't want kids. 10 years later and I still don't want them, so I removed the possibility of accidentally having them. The government can't make me have kids - seeing as I yeeted my uterus.

I'm confused on where the walmart line is coming from, am I missing something?

Too often internal biases make men look like the "best candidate," even if a man and woman of equal skills are presented.

And the reason people don't like your "positive" reason for wanting more women in the office is because the way you worded it made you sound like a creep who just wants more women around to ogle at, rather than seeing them as equal.

"But if we outlaw guns, only the bad people will have guns because they don't care about the law anyway!!"

What they fail to realize is that optimizing and spreadsheets are fun for some people

No, it couldn't. Because men excluding women from tech in the first place is wholly excluding them - there isn't another tech industry they can participate in. Men are being excluded from a single event when there are many other events doing the SAME THING that they are encouraged to attend.

Not saying I agree one way or the other, but the argument you make about the logic is not sound.

As someone with ADHD... What the fuck? Driving without my meds is much more dangerous because EVERY sensory input is jumping into my attention span. Much easier to focus on important things while on meds

I'm deeply invested in bitterness for leaving 1 comment pointing out that it might not even be a choice for someone if they couldn't afford it? Lol. Get a grip. I can simultaneously be thankful that modern medicine exists and also advocate for it being available to everyone, not just those that can afford it.

"Too risky" is such bullshit anyway. My OBGYN said that at my age (22), the only risks (aside from potential complications that come with ANY surgery) were a slightly early menopause (couple years max) and higher chance of vaginal prolapse (but that they put supports in place and there are things that can be done to correct this if it occurs)

Asking white students to not take the resources that black students worked hard to provide for themselves after white students had the privilege of them all along? Yes. Yes it would be shitty of the white kids to show up and take those resources. Similar to how it's shitty of men to take the resources that women worked to provide to other women in an attempt at making the industry more equal.

Or even Ho Mobile, as in a phone company

So leave it to a marginalized group to help a more marginalized group? Why not shit on the ones at the top who aren't helping anyone, rather than the group of women who managed to pull together resources over years to help a specific group? I agree there should be resources available for other marginalized groups too, but this reads like rich people pitting the poor against the middle class so they don't realize who is actually taking almost everything for themselves.

So what should they do without 10 days of income they likely need for food, shelter, etc? Not eat? Get evicted? Sounds like a great way to not avoid death

I live in Iowa but work remotely for a company in Minnesota - we got like 2 feet more snow than Minnesota did with the blizzard a few weeks back. The climate has been so crazy these last few months

The last few winters my dad had to drive up to Minnesota when he wanted to snowmobile - we would have like 1 inch of snow while they had feet of it

Aren't Office Suite apps not even released for Linux? I feel like I remember having to use the web based apps, and not by choice

Oh man, guess that anyone with ADHD should just try not having it if they want to be a pilot!

I want to believe that the rule is there to not bar people who were incorrectly diagnosed in the past but... I wouldn't put it past them to believe ADHD can be "cured" or "gotten over"

I... I'm not convinced it's a bot though. There are normal comments in the account history

I have to say, being on Medicaid through college showed just how true this is. Being able to put my health first, rather than worry about if I could afford a doctor visit (or an ER visit), was great. The peace of mind of knowing that I would pay $0 for ANYTHING medical lead to me putting my health first.

The one potential charge you could get was for going to the ER for something deemed a "non-emergency." Even then I didn't worry about whether I could go to the ER after whiffing it off my longboard and smacking my head into the pavement because... well, the non-emergency charge was $8.

An actual example would be segregation of schools by race. White students had the better schools and education. So when segregation became illegal, it would be like a period where black students organized their own resources for catching up, their own space and time, etc. Now imagine they had just enough books/teachers for engaging those students. And then white students showed up and began using the books, asking for their own tutoring from the teachers, etc - leaving less for the students who were at a disadvantage to begin with. Then the white kids start crying when they are told they aren't welcome in this space dedicated to leveling the field of knowledge.

In summary: Jesus fucking christ a job fair is not like lynching, you fucking wacko.

Yep, the reddit community had (and still has, afaik) a community gathered list of providers in each state where community members had had luck getting sterilized.

I found my OBGYN through this list and actually have my hysterectomy a week from today. Minimal convincing of the doctor necessary - just explained why I wanted it (terrible, heavy periods with heavy cramps AND I never want kids) and she essentially said "your body, your choice" and got me scheduled. Had to wait a month due to insurance requiring a wait period but no other issues.

I've noticed that at some point since it came out, Horizon: Forbidden West actually added a thalassophobia relief option into the settings! It brightens everything underwater and allows for infinite breath underwater regardless of if you've unlocked it in the story or not

Interesting! Thank you for the insight, I've always loved the topic of direct translation vs contextual translation ever since I dove into it in a Contemporary Japanese Literature course in college

Holy wow, where are you located if you don't mind me asking? My dad lays carpet and makes like 35k a year.

It isn't free, but I use a seedbox for running my Plex server. That way none of the media downloading is done on our local internet, all the ISP should see is that we are streaming data from a Plex server. They'd have no knowledge on if we own that data or not. I'm sure Jellyfin can also easily be run from a seedbox

Having a seedbox is also helpful because our internet has a pretty low upload speed, which would make watching anything outside the house a massive pain.

If companies were actually taking in 2 applicants instead of 1 and that in need of employees, I doubt we'd be seeing so many people desperate enough to find employment that they flood a job fair not intended for them.

Would "just throw the whole thing away" (as in throw it into the trash) be a more fitting translation for the sentiment than "let it rot" then?

Works for himself. But we live in Iowa so it isn't quite as bad of a salary as it sounds. Still not great though

That's essentially how I use the Heap playlist

I doubt foreigners got here (likely on a work visa) with no skills or education. To get a work visa, don't you have to have a job lined up? There's their experience/skills. Myself and a lot of the class I graduated with in CS are getting hundreds of rejections despite having relevant education (and experience in many cases). With the hundreds of thousands laid off from tech in the last year there is absolutely not enough openings for everyone with skills and relevant education.

Yeah, the assumptions come from somewhere. From having men ogling at me since I began growing breasts. Women are constantly sexualized and I have 100% heard people say that they wouldn't mind their company hiring more women because they like to look at them. I never even said that's what you do, I said that's what your wording made it sound like. So if anyone made assumptions here, it is you.

In regards to the tech interviews - I don't see how you didn't think about the possibility of both a woman and a man answering the question correctly. We then return to the problem of "similar candidates, who will get picked?" Which, in the past, would have always been the man. Assuming they even asked a woman in for an interview.
