The only non-techies I know that use Chrome are those I have installed Chrome for.

Most people who "just use the computer" these days DO use edge, in my experience.

100+ million years qualifies as right in the middle of "for long" in my book. The fact that an asteroid or comet of biblical proportions wiped them out has nothing to do with evolutionary effectiveness. Most of the animals that did survive either A) lived in water or B) lived underground.

Not even Skywalker could hit that.

Solvent greenback...eat the rich.

Like every other grand ol' projection, I believe this should be interpreted as a threat of things to come, not academic speculation.

Draino is NOT for clearing airways!

Contrast the op with say, an apology by China for the tienamen square massacre. Oh wait...

Open source is only as useful as the contributors and reviewers. Finding things after the fact helps noone.

People need to stop revering open source as the solution to humanity's problems and treat it as a useful tool, nothing more.

The truth is that leadership world wide only values privacy when it's their own. Everything else is a big f'n show. Information is the single most valuable commodity on the planet and knowing your potential "opponents" is priceless. Maintaining power over others necessitates invading the privacy of others in the minds of 99% of people.

My last raise was 10k. But that was after 7+ years of no raises (agency work, slow times). When COVID hit, our business picked up for 2 years straight and I finally convinced them it was stable enough to commit. We're a small company and they'd rather give out bonuses or assistance with personal expenses than commit to an annual salary increase (which I get), but COL has spiked in recent times, so the raise was well past due.

Rather than be used for war, they’ll be used for threats of violence and propaganda

Surveillance is the word you're looking for. Take all those NSA pipelines and run them through an AI and BAM, you've got your "terrorists".

AI will be downfall of our technological society, but not because of killer robots and malevolent systems. It's going to make everyone completely and utterly incompetent at everything in life.

My kid sister is the same way. Bought her a quest 3 for her bday. Took 3 days to get up and running because a) she had no idea what her meta account passwords were... had always just logged in on her phone... and b) none of the forgot password functions worked because she never cleared her Gmail mailbox so it had filled up and bounced previous facebook emails landing her on their internal do not send list.

I was livid.

Not to mention refactoring support...

Chaotic evil

Generally speaking, any service or organization that has to pay youtubers or twitch streamers to drive traffic is...a racket. Avoid like the plague.

I watched a 4 hour movie made from MK1 cut scenes the other day without even realizing how long it was.

The number of people who fail to recognize what it (typically) means when an issue magically disappears while Simone is looking over their shoulder is absurd.

The upside is that you served your one term with dignity and got something done.

The fact that everyone thinks political action should be driven by reelection prospects and seems perfectly fine with the ill motivation and contempt for the people that goes with is a major fucking problem.

Responding to you because you're the most verbal here so far. I recently upgraded from an m1 pro 14" to an m2 max 16". Leagues above anything else on the market, IMO. But people still seem to be sticking to the M1 praise. Is it just market lag, or is there something about the M1 specifically?

There seems to be a trend of new (old) developers who find that strong typing is nothing more than a nuisance.

History repeating itself in the IT world. I don't wanna be around to support the systems that inherit these guys.

Are you joking?

No you see, it's backfire to the future.

Skynet, eventually.

Anything more than a polo shirt is too fancy for me. Half the time I just stay in my jammies until I need to go somewhere or take a shower.

Twisted fister makes her moan so good.

When I was a scrub whose daily tasks involved running eternity cables, supporting warehouse machines, etc. I convinced my boss than business casual was a waste of money unless he wanted to buy my work wardrobe. This was back when I was 20ish, so 23 years ago

We've had one misdirection yes, but what about second furry China men?

They don't make docs like they used to. For what it's worth, those "...for Dummies" books were never going to make anyone an expert on anything, but every one of them I've ever read was the most densely packed set of comprehensible information on the subject available at the time.

The kind of community people like this would create doesn't need to exist anyway.

I personally like sketchers slip ons. Great for casual daily use, if light on style options.

No, I think they mean "friends" sharing accounts.

In the grand scheme of things, do I think this is an issue? No. But it's their service to decide what amount of sharing is appropriate. As long as there is no ceiling to the storage limit, people will abuse it. That's all I get out of this - they're tired of people abusing the generosity.

Reddit is a complete and utter shithole.

This. I've had a Lemmy account for a while but reddit suspended me yesterday for calling someone stupid - after they made disparaging remarks about someone else. Their account was untouched. I know because I saw posts dated after my suspension.

I don't know if Lemmy will work out or not, but Reddit has proven they're not fit to moderate any significant portion of the web's content and I can't be bothered to consume and contribute in that environment any longer. I submitted an account deletion request with an extra slice of my mind on the matter.

The mice are running the litterbox over there, indeed.

Technically the parent protocol is IP.

In all my years I have never heard someone suggest that TCP is a catch all term.

You seem to be under the impression that anyone gives a shit about your warped and disturbed world view. You keep telling others to go back to reddit but it's much more your style. Maybe you should start there.

Flies, honey, vinegar, asshole.

Pick your terms.
