If only there was a technology that allowed theaters to play movies in an analogue manner that they were in 100% control of. That would be cool. Why hasn’t that ever been invented?

Green flags:

Their smile.

Their obvious kindness.

Their big heart.

They make you laugh.

They drive.

They ask you to drive.

They have friends that you like.

Your friends like them.

They read novels.

The play a musical instrument.

They speak another language.

They can ride a bike faster than you can and you think you’re kind of hot shot about that.

They openly tell you that some of your habits are unsavory. You know they are. How courageous of them to mention it.

They like you anyway.

They can make chocolate chip cookies from memory and do like for no reason.

You like their family.

They don’t like your family but then again neither do you.

34 years later the two of you not only love one another but find things to like about one another every single day.

Poor tax laws on the richest 1% killed the American Dream.

I'm not a tech fella -- just a refugee from the Reddit collapse trying to find my way in a social media environment that feels more authentic, less corporate, and more free. So -- here's wishing all of you good luck in this position but for me, I'm just amazed that a major browser has the Fediverse on the radar. Isn't this kind of a big deal?

You need to be the example you want to see in this world. Buy ZERO Corporate.

That’s it.

Delete subscriptions. Replace your music collection with pirated MP3s. Same with movies.

Learn to cook.

Obviously you’ll have to buy gas. Nothing is perfect.

Make a start.

Is it possible a film studio, or legal agency, could set up a Lemmy Instance and then capture all our IPs?

May he be held in contempt and convicted of everything.

Hey OP — did you make this meme? Do you really have a 2 active users instance of Lemmy. If so… you make it seem like something manageable…

Do you know if I could run an instance with a raspberry Pi?

I’m thinking of a summer project… I know there’s a big learning curve but it might be fun?

So basically the only thing protecting our anonymity is the relative unpopularity of Lemmy?

Not the onion. Wow.

The last true hero.

Perfectly relevant. Thank you.

I enjoyed reaching the gist of your meaning: Legislation needs to be written.

So let’s hope that can happen.

And on a personal level, what have you heard about people who intentionally make their data useless?

This has been my strategy.

I never buy what’s recommended.

I purchase items with cash when I can so they are not added to my “profile”.

Have you heard much about this strategy? How might it work if everyone used it? Generally thoughts for how we can defy their machine and protect ourselves?

I appreciate you, Random Person.

My dad was an attorney. Just to say: we are white. And he said this to me: Police have in IQ of 80. If you are pulled over, place both hands at the top of your steering wheel with your fingers spread. Be polite. Move only when they tell you to.

Break any of these rules and they will kill you.

This is what he told his white son. He didn’t trust cops at all. This was in the late seventies.

Every time I fail to return a shopping cart on a beautiful spring day, the grocery store’s Cart Gatherer thanks me kindly and calls, “Thank you kind citizen for giving me leave to leave the hellhole that I was stuck in because the world is filled with assholes who are stealing my job! I want to be in the sunlight! Don’t take that from me!!”

I searched up this and am pasting it in again to get rid of the tracking:

You need to hand a twenty to a dude on the corner. That’s privacy. We used to have it.

I will spend it educating people that we write fifteen dollars as $15.

Pig-Latin but very fast. Decades of practice.

I want to break free off APPLE and I can’t because I love this app called CLIPS.

It’s a video editing app that allows me to hold down the button and take a few seconds of video. Lift finger, video stops recording. Hold button down again and the next clip connects to previous. And so on. Also a ton of great filters.

Addicted to it.

Please show me the android alternative.

Not kidding. I can stop being a shit eater for this.

So… when I want to control content I’m consuming, I get the .mp3 or .pdf or whatever it is I’m interested in.

How is grayjay a more reliable manner of being in control of my content on cross country drives ir wherever? I’m not tracking here. Why would anyone choose grayjay over simply controlling their own drives?

And the fact that your access can vanish for no reason at any time.

Also… internet crash. That’s going to be fun for folks.

Somebody’s collecting all those old projectors and celluloid and that person is going to be the coolest person in whatever city they are in depending on the celluloid they also collect.

In fact — in Portland — a big assed projector would go over huge even today.

I think people are sick to death of the magic of digital streaming.

Not sure this reply will get seen by the kind people who have helped explain this situation to me but I just want to say “thank you”. And I get it. The ethos here is the diversity and the federation — Reddit subs were easily corrupted by power hungry turds… anyway… there were a lot of thoughtful replies and I appreciate all that.

I still feel new here but I’m pleased to be welcomed by a lot of very thoughtful and patient people.

@narwal— why does Narwal still work to navigate Reddit while the other 3rd party apps don’t?

It’s all disgusting out there.

My wife and I kicked all fast food 2010.

We use a crock pot for beans. Buy tortillas etc. We can beat Taco Bell burritos with zero worry about disease.

We transmuted our disgust for corporate hegemony into carefully crafted campaign designed to rise above it as much as possible.

And we’re not saints. Still using abuser Amazon because fuck. But we try and I ride right in by fast food faces feeling so good not to give them an effing dime.

How many more steps is it to archive it?
