Idk. Hot and Ready's bring back the fond memories of self loathing and trauma bonding that were grad school

It isn't about indvidual privacy. It's about not further empowering the wealthy and the entities that serve them. I'm disappointed with Mozilla, but this seems to have become par for the course

This sounds vaguely illegal

See a therapist. It's great you feel comfortable reaching out to the community, but our time is fleeting and memories short. Going to speak to someone who is professionally trained to help people in these kinds of circumstances on a regular basis helps a lot.

Somewhat agree. The good ones you'd never know exist until you need help. They are a god send. Fuck the rest of them

Assuming you live in the United States, you need to be aware of the laws in the state you live in. Many states are one party consent when it comes to recording. Which means if you and I are having a conversation, you can record it without telling me. One party has consented.

If on the other hand, you install a camera without your mom's knowledge, then you are not one of the two parties. This "evidence" could be thrown out of court as it is "illegally aquired".

Not to say you shouldn't do it. Protect your mom's property. I would just suggest looking into the local laws about it. I am also not a lawyer so you should look into your local laws or consult a lawyer.

It's unfortunate how many replys are missing the good part of this and rather respond with criticism and negativity. We can do better than that folks. This is a good thing!

You have to separate:

  2. Stallman the programmer
  3. Stallman the philosopher

I love this, but having used ms office extensively for work, we all know it has many more features. Libreoffice isn't a drop in replacement, but maybe with the increased user base it can become one.

I'm an academic who no longer smokes (thanks grad school...) You meet a huge variety of folks in smoker's pits. The folks a university relies on a hell of a lot more than at least half of faculty. I'm thankful for the daily, sometimes hourly, rituals that taught me that.

While I appreciate the post, and, organized as it may be, it runs afoul of every post like it. It is too much choice and too much information. No amount of formatting will change that. If you want people to switch to Linux make the choice for them. They don't want to choose.

Most people have had great answers coming from the company side of things. I'll take it from the standpoint of individuals like us helping someone linux curious see the light, while still having the "just works" experience.

Do not give them any choices. None. Put them on your stable distro of choice for a new user, call whatever that is "Linux", and be on your way.

But why? Isn't that antithetical to everything we value? Yes and no. We value choice almost above anything else, but that doesn't "just work" for most people. Which of those do you value more?

I have a student named Serena Williams. I asked her the first day if other professors make light of it. She said yes dejectedly and I promised her I wouldn't. I've kept my word so far

Some people also use downvotes as way to say they dislike something. Unlikely, but some people might be down voting to indicate they don't like the insurance industry.
