It's because he's making himself out to be a martyr who is challenging a corrupt system, which is why "the system" doesn't like him and is trying to steal what is rightfully his.

It's ironic because the system is truly corrupt, but he's the worst of it.

I bet there is a significant portion of his base that thinks they’ve got it all figured out, proper iamverysmart or iamverybadass stuff.
They see the same in him as themselves: stupid unjustified confidence and just spouting off random thoughts as truths. Just being an abrasive dickhead, but in a way that makes others feel embarrassed to even listen to them.
