"Garbage" means "food waste" and it's French af, originally meaning all offal taken out of animals being cleaned to eat. "Disposall" was a brand of...garbage disposal...from the 1930s and the name stuck
It's pretty nice, really, not that I use it for bulk food waste. We have compost pickup here. But for the odd bits of lettuce and rice stuck on your plate, it's fantastic to not have to fuss with the little screen basket.
