$100k in gold bars didn't seem like a lot to me, so I looked it up. One ounce of gold goes for about $2000, so he had about 50 ounces of gold (or a little over 3lbs). It's still a lot, but it's not like he had Fort Knox hidden under his bed.
Note: I am not defending him. I'm more commenting on the headline sensationalizing him having gold bars.
