Why do you think it is that, in America, when you learn that a person is strongly against gun control, insisting it's their inalienable right to own guns, you have a very good chance of guessing what they think about abortion, or about immigration, or about gender roles? It's because many of these opinions are rooted in some sort of antisocial fear of "others", while the remaining opinions are simply the opinions of your chosen groups.
