The only real usefulness I've ever found is following musical artists to keep up with what they're putting out, but with Mastadon I've been using it as something of a news source and getting a lot out of it
Yeah, the only thing I only used twitter for was getting status updates from things. Blizzard's cusrtomer service for instance would tweet if they were having server issues and so on.
It's interesting how some people tout Lemmy and Mastodon cross posting, but all it does is confuse me. I like mastodon for short things like news as you said, but when lemmy comments get mixed in I don't know where to start
