Many mods marked their sub nsfw. Reddit is threatening to replace them if they don't reverse it.
The latest I read with /r/pics is that they told everyone in a pinned post that if people kept using bad language in the comments wink wink they’d be forced per Reddit’s clearly stated guidelines to mark the sun NSFW. Then on Monday people didn’t clean up their potty mouths the it went NSFW so bye bye when the advertising
