"Calif." is one of the two traditional abbreviations for California.

Abbreviations are usually read the same way the word they're replacing are spoken. So, you're right! Nobody's saying "Calif."

l'm going to start. Anytime someone says "I'm taking the 70 to the 25" in Denver I'll ask them if they are from "Calif"
