I like kbin a lot already too. I like the highly functional feel. It's close enough to Reddit that I hope it draws in more users. I found it a lot more approachable than Mastodon, and "Lemmy" just doesn't have a nice ring to it IMO.

Also, communists or whatever. Not that I care if people have a particular ideology. But, I just want to shoot the shit about shit. Not get dragged into propagating someone's manifesto or political treatise.

I think this point has been overexaggerated a bit. Sure, the main devs might support the CCP and actively try to silence critisicm about it, but the software is open source and decentralised for exactly this purpose. Anyone can fork it and host it themselves, and users can use any other instance which allows free speech with practically no difference in user experience.

I think both Kbin and Lemmy are great software, I am using both hoping that at least one of the two ends up becoming popular
