Maybe this is a hot take, but I really wish we could just let things die. Smash Ultimate works quite well as the finale the series deserves. I could see maybe 20 or 30 years down the line they do a ressurection with some sort of spiritual successor. But I'm against seeing another smash anytime soon. There are a lot of franchises that I think should adopt this mindset, it's not just smash.

Edit: I also think in the interim developers could work on long dead franchises like how Destiny is bringing back Marathon.

Idk that makes sense for like story driven games where things have a definite ending. For a fighting game I don't really care if they keep pumping them out since it's not like detracting from anything major. People just want to play as like slippy or geno or something. People will just keep playing the good ones, like how melee has survived.

Exactly, so I think it's fair to let the franchise get some air before it comes back into the ring so to speak. Let those games shine and be cherished, pick up a different lost franchise in the meantime. But I can definitely see how others would disagree.

I think it’s quite fair to argue melee or brawl being the finale.

New gamers start every day. They want to play these games. Especially something like ssb. 20-30 years is too long to wait for another game.

So let them play the older games. The point is to let the franchise die so that something else can be born in it's stead. Instead of rinse repeating the same game over and over again slightly tweaking the variables and considering that a significant change.
