[Meta] General Music Community List

rknuu@beehaw.org to Music@beehaw.org – 14 points –

I've noticed several community announcement threads being created in !music@beehaw.org and thought that it might be best to centralize the advertisements in a single thread to help with discoverability and longevity. I'll attempt to keep this post up-to-date as folks add comments for new communities.

Also, this isn't a replacement for https://browse.feddit.de/.

The directlink sends you directly to the owning instance's content (useful if your instance hasn't indexed the community yet, as the second link might come back with a 404 until it has been indexed). The second link is "universal" and will keep you local to your own instance (useful when trying to subscribe).

So, without further ado, here's the list:

Music Styles

Artist Specific

Music Focused Instances

Communities and Music Discussion

I actually use archive.org for a lot of live concert recordings. bands like the Grateful Dead and Phish have been allowing/sort of encouraging fans to record and freely share their concerts for a long time and it's all just out there to listen to and download as much as you want. there's also the official streaming services like nugs.net and LivePhish for higher quality professionally recorded concerts, the subscription is kind of pricey but I think the artists get a better cut than on regular streaming services.

other than that I do use Spotify a bit and try to buy stuff on Bandcamp to support the artists when I can.

This is great. I am however struggling to navigate to these on my own instance. Is there any way on the fediverse to have links that always open on whichever instance you are on so you can sub from there?

I just shifted the links over to a different format, this should now allow you to stay within your instance so subscriptions are easier :)

Hey, I created !deathmetal@lemmy.ml and !deathcore@lemmy.ml . I'm also trying to get ownership of !metalcore@lemmy.ml as it has been abandoned, so adding it to the list would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

Unfortunately, I didn't know there's a post character limit in Lemmy (10k characters in all -- this sucks!) I'll be coming up with an alternate solution soon for these.

No worries! Would be cool if we could pin comments in Lemmy, but I'm sure these kind of features will come in due time
