Long story short, the links below have plenty of details, but wealthy businessmen approached a USMC general with a plan to overthrow the government because they didn't like FDR's policies. The general ratted them out. He was taken seriously, but nobody was prosecuted.

The general they approached, Smedley Butler, deserves a holiday IMO.
