With how much early art was religious in nature, I have to wonder if those could arguably be considered ads of the time...
I'd say yeah. Imposing, impossibly large buildings have also been used to send a message, which the church has plenty of.
What a waste, reason-wise, but amazing nonetheless.
DaVinci was just some guy that some rich guy paid to make him look good
I mean, that’s pretty dang cool looking. At least some artist (likely group of them) got paid to make something neat even if it’s commercial in nature.
