Still rockin' my OnePlus 6T. Have it since about 4.5-5 years and I don't at all feel the need to change something about it. Battery life is still alright. Only thing that makes me sad is it doesn't receive any more updates, not even the security patches :-(
You could go for Lineage OS.
OnePlus Phones are well supported, even the OnePlus One gets regular updates.
Was considering buying a OnePlus phone just for that reason alone.
Oh it's been ages since I was reading into LineageOS. Need to look into it again. If the original OnePlus still gets updates this way this should be a piece of cake :)
l am using it to revive old phones since its cyanogenmod days.
There has been a lot of progress on the installation and update side, much easier now, so perhaps just try it.

100% agree. Really a shame they just stop shipping security patches without any notification
OnePlus 6 user here too. I've been looking for a new phone for a year, no one seems to be that much better for a reasonable price. The only feature I really miss is 5G, but paying 600 bucks for a decent phone (I'm EU based) just seems wasteful.
I think we reached peak smartphone a while ago. The newer ones don't really do anything new, more just shuffling features around or on the top-level flagships, a better CPU or camera. On the mid-range you don't even really get camera improvements except sometimes a bigger number.
