What router do you recommend for openwrt?

I don't know if this is relevant, but it has to connect to the internet using the phone line

Edit: It's connected with a coaxial cable

I really like GL.iNET's line of routers. They come with OpenWRT pre-installed, too!

Speaking of which, I always had issues with WiFi stability on OpenWrt. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I had issues with both Qualcomm Atheros (ath9k and ath10k) and Mediatek based routers. I couldn't find anything regarding stability of the WiFi in their hardware database. Is there a list of devices that are known to run reliably?

Back when I dabbled with alt firmware on consumer routers, radio drivers were always a problem. Reliability, performance, or both always suffered. Maybe get a dedicated access point and use just the routing functions. It can move from router to router, firmware to firmware.

Not sure, what you mean by ‚phone line‘, but I like Mikrotik RB950 as pure Ethernet based router which works well with OpenWRT and has 1Gps Ports.

I assume some sort of DSL was meant by 'phone line'. In which case one could always use an external DSL modem, then any supported router should work. Or one could choose one of the few supported devices with built-in DSL modem, but make sure the modem supports the DSL standard you require.

The dynalink WRX36 is the popular choice for openwrt router right now. For $80 on Amazon the performance cannot be beat. Support in the 23.05 release candidat builds.
