That word, Open, it doesn't mean what they think it means

I was very excited to learn about this project...only to discover it's neither free nor open source. Does anyone know of any true open source and accessible tools for Syllabus sharing/curating/researching?

Lots of organizations use "Open" because it has positive connotations in people's minds. They aren't trying to suggest that they specifically follow the FOSS philosophy.

See also:

  • OpenAI
  • OpenTable
  • Based on a cursory DDG search, dozens of other companies with open in their name, including a crypto exchange, a publicly traded tech company, etc.

Okay, but openai was open source once. And then they just didn't change their name when they changed their licenses. Which I actually think is more dishonest.

Lmao yeah when they realised how much money they can do it they suddenly "understand" the "risk" it "poses" if it is freely available. Uh huh. Sure bud lemme have some of what you're having. Smokes capitalism yeah that's some good shit.
