Mods could just make a filter to remove everything new anyway. The concept of mods being unpaid volunteers means they get to fuck with reddit if they really want. They already had that issue with some subs just starting to allow porn during the first api protest. Sure reddit can just churn through to newer friendlier mods like the first time but they're not going to be able to crush all the dissent and drama from moves like that.

But actually I think reddit has a bigger problem than protests. They tweaked their algorithm recently and it is going the way of facebook now, I've been getting 0 upvote day-old posts shown to me. They're probably getting more engagement but I don't think redditors are going to put up with that level of enshittification as easily as other social media where people are locked in by friends and followers.

You had me in the first half, ngl

I'm so glad I quit consoles. Now I'm just rooting for steam to get every game running perfectly in linux so we don't have to deal with Windows either.

Super interesting. The guy claims is wasn't just ai, that he performed alterations as well. If that's true but he still gets shot down it might pave the way for AI being much more shunned in the world out of IP concerns on the output side rather than the training data.

You can't copyright that music, game, book, screenplay or video because AI made some contribution.

Some of us like linux and want to deal with it...

No, most of this is untrue. Ex Presidents can refuse secret service detail. They are allowed to drive on public roads - that is a secret service rule that they can't but it's not against the law and Presidents don't have to follow those rules. And they are allowed to live outside the US if a host country allows them.

Open AI has a projected revenue of 3 Billion this year.
It is currently projected to burn 8 Billion on training costs this year.
Now it needs 5 Gigawatt data centers worth over 100 Billion.
And new fabs worth 7 Trillion to supply all the chips.

I get that it’s trying to dominate a new market but that’s ludicrous. And even with everything so far they haven’t really pulled far ahead of competing models like Claude and Gemini who are also training like crazy.

That 11x election cycles with at least one of three last names on the ballot is only a record tie.

We had John Adams x4, George Clinton x2, DeWitt Clinton x1, James Monroe x2, John Quincy Adams x2 also a total of 11x.

Roosevelts were on the ballot 8x election cycles but the gap years screwed them. And they were close to uniting with the Nixon 5x streak also with some gaps. And then after one cycle right into the Bush Sr streak. If things shook out just a bit different there was a 19x streak in the cards.

Keep making life shitty and it will happen all on its own anyway. Hell making it a law might Streisand Effect it.

Here's this one cool hack they don't want you to know about. Governments hate it!

Nintendo Lawyers realizing some of their IP is represented in LLM training data and outputs.

  1. Take dog that's not well trained to a pheasant hunt.
  2. Get mad at dog for not being a well-trained pheasant hunting dog.
  3. Realize you don't have enough cages to take all the dogs back safely. Leave the untrained dog in the back of your truck hoping it jumps out and dies or runs away because you're mad at it.
  4. Stop by a friend with chickens. OMG the untrained dog that was left unsecured in the back of your truck that you've been teaching to hunt birds has killed some chickens.
  5. Shoot the dog because you're angry.
  6. Shoot a goat as well because you're already on a rampage and hate it too.

The Kristi Noem one, when I heard the news I assumed it was just unavoidable farm life type of shit. Like the dog got rabies or seriously injured and putting it down was just the right thing to do...

Then I read the story and holy hell that woman shot a perfectly healthy dog out of spite. South Dakota has animal shelters, Kristi, you psycho.

Depends on what you do. Plenty of people only have to walk from car door to heated building so crappy winter clothes isn't a huge deal. There are those people that wear shorts year round based on that principle.

They definitely do, especially legacy stuff that's still kicking. Sweet, sweet tech debt that you hope won't be a real problem until you've moved to a different company.

I've used word/onenote or FOSS equivalents the same way, they're fine as a scratchpad for notes. As you said it's nice being able to shove images in there. There are so many things that don't belong anywhere else that I will forget after even a half hour break.

Good news. Anything but fossil fuels at this point.

They've also made it clear they want to cut military and veteran benefits. It's surprising they think the military will be absolutely loyal to them if they try to power grab and go full dictator.

Should be banned everywhere smh. It's crazy that people are just chucking lithium into the garbage for no reason...when vapes started as an easily reusable setup in the firth place.

I checked twitter. Generally they think Trump won. They also think the moderators were a Harris' team and it was 3 vs 1. They think he owned her with the "I'm talking now" line. There's also a conspiracy theory that Harris was wearing earrings with speakers in them.

But no debate was going to change the mind of people already in the maga cult anyway.

For 'undecided' voters I've seen this didn't move the needle much but Harris was slightly ahead.

The biggest win is probably for already dem leaning voters being more excited to get out and vote rather than not voting - especially with Taylor Swift encouraging them to register and vote now.

Not a democrat, not really a republican either. Mostly just crazy.

  • Supports Trump 2016
  • Supports anyone but Trump 2020 - Briefly likes Bernie but then mainly has a parasocial relationship with Tulsi Gabbard (offers to write speeches, sends speeches to their email). Eventually gets on board with Biden Harris.
  • Somehow likes Kim Jong Un, has another parasocial relationship inviting to Hawaii and asking to be an ambassador.
  • Latches onto George Floyd protests supporting police reform.
  • Latches onto Hong Kong supporting independence. Again reaching out to be a kind of diplomat in a parasocial relationship with Carrie Lam and including his phone number and email. He does that a lot.
  • Latches onto supporting Ukraine. Has a parasocial relationship with Zelenskyy. Goes there and volunteers to help recruit eventually but people thought he was nuts over there. Kept offering to provide thousands of Afghan soldiers?
  • Asks Elon Musk about selling him a rocket to attack Putin...
  • Latches onto Taiwan supporting independence. Again offering thousands of Afghan soldiers.
  • Writes a book telling Iran they should assassinate Trump.
  • Believes China has a pneumonia bioweapon it's using to silence democracy
  • This election his dream ticket was Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley (and yet Ramaswamy is not pro Ukraine while Haley is so I'm not sure why he'd want Haley as the VP)

They got caught taking bribes and then afterward made an official ruling that "gratuities" are okay and totally not bribes. These corrupt assholes have no shame and will never voluntarily recuse themselves.

This is literally AOC trying to impeach them, which isn't going to be successful in a republican controlled house anyway. It's more just for principle and show.

Court packing isn't really an option right now for the same reason...if dems get firm control of the house and senate then it would be possible. For those who don't know Manchin and Sinema are two "democratic" senators who won't abolish filibuster or expand the supreme court so the current 51 - 49 democrat control of the senate isn't real control either.

From wikipedia

“It's an uncomfortable subject to most of the guys, so we don't really discuss it too much. The process of the thing being made was never told to us. We were never told what it was. It was never supposed to be a Wu-Tang album. We were recording and being paid to do a certain amount of records by a guy whose name I don't want to mention. He took all these verses—some of them were old verses—and put them altogether into a compilation of Wu-Tang songs and marketed it as a Wu-Tang album, and a single copy of a Wu-Tang album. We all had a problem with it because that's not how it was described to us.”

—Method Man in 2024 on recording Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.

"They just hate me for political reasons, it's a witch hunt! They're corrupt!"..."Wait until I'm president again. There will be political witch hunts. I am corrupt."

There shouldn't be any paid resort trips for judges in the first place, even with disclosure.

Week long colloquiums at a resort in Montana paid for by some conservative group? Why do judges need a colloquium in the first place? They don't need to go to a conference to tell them how to judge things based on political lines. There's already a system of judges that's supposed to interpret grey areas of the law as a group that's the whole point of appellate courts and the multi-judge panels on them.

I think the opinion (as bad as it is) is that if the warrant was good the judge thinks the exact same thing would have happened. So the fact that these assholes knowingly lied to get the warrant isn't a "direct link".

To me making that argument kind of signals that no-knock warrants shouldn't be a thing at all if you accept that an innocent would die either way because it's so fucked up....and on top of that the cops still clearly caused this by lying because this isn't a case of good warrant vs bad warrant - this is a case of bad warrant vs no warrant and Breonna still being alive.

This might be the dumbest thing a candidate in this race has said and that bar is pretty high considering Trump might think political asylum and insane asylums are the same thing.

Honestly they're still impressive and useful it's just the hype train overload and trying to implement them in areas they either don't fit or don't work well enough yet.

We will end the war in Ukraine by giving Russia everything they want...

Kamala Harris said in the debate, "I believe the reason Donald Trump says this war would be over in 24 hours is because he would just give it up." Turns out she's 100% correct.

Someone else, whose identity was not known when the case was presented to a grand jury, poured an accelerant on the cat and set it on fire, the indictment against Williams says. The animal running away on fire was also recorded on video.

People in this thread don't seem to understand how anti big business the FTC has been since Lina Khan was appointed. These reports are meant to be used by congress to help guide real policy. It's one thing to just assume social media is violating privacy, it's another thing to have a facts-based report on exactly what is currently happening.

Of course the FTC needs new laws to do any enforcement and there's probably not enough anti corporation politicians to pass laws that give them real teeth on data privacy issues.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the station, one of the teens reported hearing Metz say "Oh s---, my gun just went off" after the shooting.

The kids did trespass by hopping a fence, I'm guessing his defense is going to be he was just trying to hold them there for police but accidentally discharged his weapon into a kids face. The fuckwit is really lucky the kid lived.

I can't understand the idiotic appeal of inserting yourself into these situations when the police are already on the way and there's no danger to yourself to just waiting and letting them handle it.

Good write up. National polls don't mean shit and this is far from a done deal as you've shown.

A citation with a superscript number reference in a comment? Impressive.

You're really trying to strawman me and aren't making good faith arguments here so I'm not going to waste too much time on a response... but take 51 and then subtract 2 from it (for Manchin and Sinema who won't vote with dems on these issues) - is that 50? Besides that dems also don't control the house.

This is beautiful in all the wrong ways.

That's not really how 👀 is used these days among the young folk, but I wouldn't expect a random Canadian farmer to know that either.

I don't think that a thumbs up emoji should be a valid signature. The farmer was responding to "please confirm flax contract" and the thumbs up emoji really could mean "I've seen your text and will look at the contract to confirm/deny soon." Although the article did also mention that the same type of acceptance had happened previously with this farmer where the contracts were treated as valid and fulfilled so the farmer is probably disingenuous with their argument.

People are freaking out about the lack of a recall but intel says their patch that will supposedly stop currently working cpus from experiencing the overvolt condition that is leading to the failure. So they don't really need to do a recall if currently working CPUs will stay working with the patch in place. As long as they offer some sort of free extended warranty and a good RMA proccess for the CPUs that are already damaged I feel it's fine.

If they RMA with a bump in perf for those affected it might even be positive PR like "they stand by their products" but if they're stingy with responsibility then we should obviously give them hell. We really have to see how they handle this.
