Photographer and open source software fan. I've also made a few tutorials at http://youtube.com/@AnAustralianPhotographer
Blog: https://anaustralianphotographer.wordpress.com Webshop: https://anaustralianphotographer.threadless.com/ where you can buy prints and other merch featuring my photos.

This inspired me to do some photoshopping.

It looks like the front hasn't fallen off.

Edit: context for those not aware - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m5qxZm_JqM . The front section of a oil tanker fell off and it started leaking crude oil into the ocean off perth and it caught fire.

The two actors are comedians who (then) regularly did send ups of politicians in the last few minutes broadcast each week on an otherwise serious news show.

Edit: my comment isn't about exactly the same thing, but ..

Some new camera tech might be opening a can of worms about whether what's pictured can be taken literally.

There was a story late last year of a woman trying on a wedding dress in front of two mirrors and someone snapped a photo.

When they looked at it, the reflection on the left mirror had a different pose to the reflection on The right mirror.

And this cast doubt on what exactly was going on the moment the shutter was pressed.

It looks like the camera had one of the stitch together the best photo of the people pictured (e.g. don't show shots of people blinking etc) and it treated the mirror images as different people.

My guess is with the protests that some of the top content creators moved away and never came back.

I remember sorting by hot once gave a wide variety of things and now it seems to be more drama posts like AITA posts.

Although it feels like I'm still following an ex, There was one place over there I used to visit a lot and I believe if you took a snapshot of the top ten posts of a random day few years ago and today, they'd be very different. Today's seems to be a group picking up a trend and running with it and before it was more original content. I remember going there because I knew there'd be something new I'd likely laugh at or be amused by and now it feels heavily recycled.

The subscriber count is still way up, but I'd you look at the online/active user count, it feels like its around 10% it was off recent highs.

It felt like the sub had a ship of thecleus moment where it seemed to just be growing, but was also losing people until the group changed but the name was the same.

Someone else said the new reddit gold allows people to receive real money* if people gild their posts (by spending real money) * receiver must be in certain countries.

I saw a post recently on a wholesome memes page where someone tagged repost sleuth bot and someone else commented that todays post was literally a copy of the third top voted post of all time. It was.

I also remember that bot support got affected and this led to a spam detector bot being moved from active development to sunset mode where it was still supported but not actively enhanced.

Thanks for the update. I appreciate the transparency and honesty.

No pressure from me, I know all too well about upgrading to the newest version and finding out it has a showstopper bug for the features i was planning to use.

Thankyou for running the server and helping build the community and fediverse.

Lemmy.world is still running Lemmy 0.18.x and will soon upgrade to 0.19.x and 0.19 has scaled sorting.

Improved Post Ranking There is a new scaled sort which takes into account the number of active users in a community, and boosts posts from less-active communities to the top. Additionally there is a new controversial sort which brings posts and comments to the top that have similar amounts of upvotes and downvotes

It's a photo I took while out on a walk. A hoverfly on a sunflower.

I try to post interesting shots to mastodon and c/pics and help grow Lemmy and the fediverse.

I thought it'd help to be descriptive.

As another avenue to the report button, could Lemmy world have a new community LemmyWorldSupport_911 where anyone can post and it's monitored by moderators or admins and they can promptly react?. (911 =American number for emergency services)

As part of the community rules, posting for stuff that doesn't warrant a 911 reaction could result an penalties for anyone looking to "prank" it or abuse it's intended purpose.

Some small communities only have one mod and that mod has to sleep.

No, they're wild. They might have some places they regularly visit for food where people live that put out sunflower seeds or similar bird feed.

It was an open park and they would have been able to see any cats or similar approaching. Even if I got closer than say 5 meters, they'd walk or fly away.

Yes, there are also Mynas around (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myna (link with pic for differences. )) but these ones also hang around a bit too. Id say they're mostly grey with some dark patches.
Edit: original comment might have come off as rude/condesending. I gave link so we both have the same reference point and didn't want to re-post image directly so it couldn't be misconstrued as mine. I looked at the wikipedia page recently and noted there were many myna species, but i meant the pictured myna is also nearby too.

And when it learns something new, the response will be "Holy Hell".

I saw a few that walk. I took a step down to get the photo and was reluctant to step closer as it appeared to be getting its back up and looking for a fight. I wasn't going to press the issue as i just saw a baby water dragons close by.

I can't help directly, but the people at https://lemmy.world/c/techsupport mighr be able to.

In Aus, we have 000, triple zero. I think 112 works here too, might just be mobiles though. It used to be triple oh, but some people saw the keypads had letters on them and dialled 777 or whatever number o was on.

I've probably seen too much American media. I'm happy for any, even 0118 999 881 999 119 725 ... 3 but it might be a bit hard to learn.

Yeah I think Lemmy is still in the early stages and hope people are open to bending some rules. I have a photo os some Tawny Frogmouths that I might ask to post to Superbowl even though they're not owls.

While I don't want to say this is a perfect solution, it is a free solution, and one id checkout early, that said I'd still recommend shopping around to see what best meets your needs.

You could get a Gmail account for the business/ website and then register for a free WordPress site. WordPress is both software you can download for self hosting and a website service where they take care of everything (for free or a price. The free version may end up with the website having ads served to viewers and only has limited upload).

As for design, there are a few free as well as paid templates. They can also get your site a domain like yourbusiness.com , but you can get a free subdomain at WordPress like yourbusiness.wordpress.com

If you wanted to go complex, you could self host or hire a virtual computer to host from a cloud provider, but things like making sure software is up to date and security patches applies are up to you. You might already have a server / network attached storage device which could be the server and get the domain linking to it and have your router forward incoming traffic to it, but it depends on how hands on you want to be.

I'm not sure it fully meets the specs, but have a look at the TIC80 it's an open source fantasy console you can write code for.

Imagine something like a 1st generation console game system fully sypported by emulators. I've touched on it on a recalbox.

Lorenzo von Matterhorn?

Probably. It wasn't a Koala on Kangaroo Island where they've managed to keep it out.

Isn't there a bypass there now?

A wallaby is smaller, i'd say about 2/3rds typically. There can be some absolute unit Kangaroos, about as tall as me and there are videos of humans and kangaroos punching on, and the roo's will punch on with other roos too. A wallaby might come up to my waist.

I can tell the differences by looking at the faces. The kangaroos nose seems longer and wider where the wallaby's is shaped to a point. i dont remember seeing any around canberra

Kangaroos usually travel in a mob of about 5-15 with a dominant male and lots of females and joeys but you can catch them alone. They'll usually hop along if you get too close for comfort.

Here's a close up of a wallaby Copied under creative commons licence that requires attribution Souce:- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallaby#/media/File:Swamp-Wallaby-Feeding-2,-Vic,-Jan.2008.jpg

Thanks, i just cross posted it there. I checked their rules and they do have some exceptions. I dont know whether the Water Dragons are considered lizards, and im not an expert but i have posted several images to birding after someone else suggested there too.

Earn enough money from Photography to make a living.

Walk into a random cafe some time and find one of my photos is on their wall.

Thankyou, i'll update the post.

I will try and get some more out soon. Ive got a macro lens which i'll have to dust off.

If you're having a drink like coffee or hot chocolate, a "Tim Tam Slam" is where you bite both end of the biscuit and use it like a straw.

GPG uses a public key encryption algorithms. Widely known encryption uses symmetric encryption, ie the same passphrase is used to encrypt and decrypt.

Public key encryption algorithms have two keys, a public key and a private key. They are created as a pair.

When someone creates the pair, they can safely widely publish their public key which is essential to encrypt a message to the receiver. But a different key is needed to decrypt the message (the private key).

They can also be used in reverse. A person with a private key can sign a message saying they created a document and it has this hash. We can use their public key to confirm the message they send out has not been altered.

A hash is a computer algorithm which examines a files and creates a short pattern of characters. If the file is changed then the hash of the file also changes.

As a example, If we had a written letter, a very simple hash could be to assign a the number 1, b 2,, c 3 etc and full stop could be 27, comma 28, and the digits 0-9 29-38. For every character we keep adding the assigned numbes and keep a total. When we get to the end, we take the last 3 digits and have a number between 000 and 999. (Technically this is more a checksum than a hash, but please just go with it. A hash like MD5 or SHA256 is complex and has ways to detect if the message contents was shuffled that the described hash wouldn't)

Continuing the example, I may receive a letter from a relative who asked me for some money or something. If I wasnt sure if it was real or not, I could calculate the hash and call the relative and confirm the hash.

But back to your example, there might be a press release from the presidents account saying something like

"Dear constituents, Please find attached a link to download the lastest video update from the presidents. It can be downloaded at URL, and it has a SHA256 hash of abcd12345 Signed President GPGSignature for president@example is 'ajfuebslch' " Once we download the file, we can use SHA to generate the has of the file we downloaded and GPG to confirm the signature of the message we received matches the text of the message we received.

If we didn't have GPG and the Public key of the presidents account, an attacker who makes deep fakes could send us spam purporting to be from them and include in the message the correct hash for their deepfaked video.

I dont quite fully understand how public key encryption works, but the GPG signature allows us to confirm the message was sent by whoever has the matching private key to the public key we've got and the hash lets us confirm the file we downloaded is the same as the video the semder wants us to receive.

A long time ago I have used ffmpeg to transition one jpg to another jpg as a gif animiation. I will see about coming back and editing the comment with a reference.

The answer on this page is where I'd start: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/71178068/video-morph-between-two-images-ffmpeg-minterpolate

But I don't have time to delve into it now. I can see about help if you reply, but it won't be for a few days.

Would you be open to changing who hosts your servers?

Ive put a few to birding before , they've helped when i didn't know what some birds were. I think i'll go there first.

Halo and Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. Any money the chief gets the orb.

Im not 100% sure, but am confident its the one north of Cordes road, north of Kingscote. It wasn't the main Kingscote jetty.

Not that i remember, it could be run of the mill smog. Ive done some tweaks to the image in darktable including haze removal, does this look better ?

Smiles and hands you a Vegemite sandwich.

I reckon a Pelican would easily be able to get a skateboard rolling. I'm just now sure the best steps to proceed testing it.

I'd try a skateboard at the top of a hill and see about getting a cockatoo to somehow get the board to roll under it's own propulsion so it can sit back and enjoy a ride down a hill. That'd be the way I'd try if I wanted the bird to do it repeatedly.

Sorry, I have no idea. There were quite a few people around the CBD when it was taken.

I know it's the other side of the planet, but Australia has a Great Race our Supercars compete in every year in October. It's the Bathurst 1000 which is about 2 hours west of Sydney.

It's one of the tracks the Supercars race a which is a public road most of the year so you can drive a lap in a stock car (with 60kph limit).
