Nimbys make the world a worse place

Tbh a good percentage of Americans would turn down a million dollars if it meant minorities didn't get it.

My three favorite artists are Miles Davis, David Bowie, and Kanye West. Three artists that changed their sound every single album.

So no.

My brain doesn't really process lyrics. Vocals are just another instrument to me.

Honestly, with the way Mexicos leadership/politics and economy is heading, it's positioned to be a decent power, and potentially be a more desirable location to live than the US sometime in the next century. Big fan of AMLO and hope he is setting them on a good trend. It's probably only a matter of time before the US intervenes and makes sure they don't go too far left though, so maybe I shouldn't get my hopes up.

That one I can believe

Generally not a huge pop fan but I'm a big fan of Carly Rae Jepsen. Emotion is one of the best pop albums of the last 30 years, however I've liked her last two albums progressively less and less, which was a worrying trend.

However her new album out this Friday is FANTASTIC. It has her most forward thinking and experimental production she's ever had, and every song is growing on me a ton. It's definitely her best since Emotion and I'm a huge fan of it. I think I'm at 4 listens now and I'm trying to hold off until Friday when it officially releases to listen again.

I would sooner get a tattoo of Ronald Reagan on my ball sack than listen to music with ads. I'm not a barbarian.

I got an Onyx Boox Leaf 2 e-reader, and it's fantastic, I'd highly recommend it. The great thing about it, is that it runs Android, which means you can get Hoopla, Libby, Overdrive, the Barnes and Noble app, the Kindle app, etc, so all your ebooks are in one place and can be read on your device.

I get all my ebooks for free, by getting public domain stuff from these two places. PG has more selection but Standard has better formatting and is just generally higher quality. This ereader has paid itself off in like 6 months with the money I saved on buying books.

I rent ebooks from the library using both Hoopla, and Libby.

Feel Good Hit of the Summer - Queens of the Stone Age

What's hilarious is conservatives absolutely hate Strongtowns too, and pretty much all their policy goals are the opposite of the goal of ST. Even though Chuck Morohn is deeply conservative, he can't really face that truth.

Blackstar - David Bowie

Blue in Green - Miles Davis

Pink Moon - Nick Drake

Pink + white - Frank Ocean

Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam

Tangled up in Blue - Bob Dylan

Sorry if these aren't "alternative" still trying to figure out what that really means but I'm not sure I'd call any of these inside the modern mainsteam.

There was a lot of good done this session in MN but yeah, we have a long way to go. That Nursing bill really stings.

I can't figure out if I'd want something with vocals to give me a sense of companionship, or something without vocals so it doesn't drive me insane.

With vocals: Grateful Dead - Cornell 5/8/77

Without vocals: John Coltrane - Live at Village Vanguard

It's so good I ended up listening to Rated R right after I posted this.

It is when you start assuming non-bigots are bad people because of what they look like.

If you're coming from a rock background you could check out In a Silent Way or A Tribute to Jack Johnson, and if you like those, go to Bitches Brew.

Pretty much nothing catches my eye this week, which is fine because I have like 20 albums on my backlog I need to catch up on from this year.

We set ours on a pedestal and give them a megaphone though.

Beatles: Hard Days Night - Tomorrow Never Knows

David Bowie: Suffragette City - Warzsawa

Miles Davis: 'Round Midnight - Miles Runs the Voodoo Down

Radiohead: Creep - Kid A

Beach Boys: California Girls - Wind Chimes

Kanye West: Jesus Walks - Black Skinhead

Man I miss their VC stuff. I've liked their albums less and less with each release.

I have the Leaf 2 and would highly recommend. Works great, and is much better for your eyes. I use it every day.

What I'm hear from this is collective cultures help societies in ways that matter and individualistic cultures help societies that don't.

And I don't disagree. And before someone jumps in with an "innovation" argument, just know that most major innovation was done by public entities, with public research, funded by public taxes/grants.

I'll throw a shoutout to Onyx Boox, rather than Kobo or Kindle. It runs Android, can run literally any file type, doesn't lock you into an ecosystem with DRM where you don't really own the books you buy. I despise Kobo and Kindle for that reason.

But I totally agree about how nice e-ink is. It's literally as good as paper. Maybe better. Soooo nice.

Monopoly can actually be a pretty quick game if you play by the rules. Which literally nobody does.

How could I forget my girl Dolly, I love that song. Thanks.

The distinction between socialism and communism gets a little silly imo. Some people claim that communism is a stateless society, and that countries like the Soviet Union practiced socialism, which is just a stepping stone towards communism. You seem to be implying the opposite. Either way, there's like a million different things you could call these ideologies (state-socialism, market socialism, democratic-socialism, communism, anarcho-communism, Stalinism, etc)

Ultimately, I just want workers to own the means of production in my city, whatever you want to call that.

So, two concerns with this.

  1. Hasn't it been shown the cameras actually increase accident rates? Basically it makes people drive less predictably, by slowly really quickly when they realize there's a camera. I could be thinking of red light cameras, rather than speed cameras but I thought it was both.

  2. I'm pretty sure they aren't enforceable? If someone doesn't want to pay one it's super easy to get out of. Which ends up meaning that the people who need be held accountable, aren't. And the people that are decent drivers, continue to be decent drivers.

I don't think that's helpful. First of all, why wouldn't a Nazi want their ideology to reach as wide of an audience as possible? I can see no good reason why not working with Kbin would be a good thing for them.

This seems like a pretty clear case of Hanlon's Razor to me, unless you have a better argument.

I wouldn't trust my kids around someone that pronounces it k'bin

I'll be honest, why does anyone even go on the random channel? It was like the first thing I blocked when joining Kbin. It's just spam and memes.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but how is this relevant? Like, is them being "Tankies" related to them being less likely to play nicely with Kbin?

I'm new to all this, so again, sorry if this is a dumb question.

I hope it isn't locked into a liberalism ideology too much. If I want to make food and housing a human right, workers employed by the state, and/or democratically owned workplaces do I have the option for that?

My utopian city has no landlords or bourgeoisie and I hope I can make that happen.
